Participation in activist groups has been demonstrated to have myriad benefits for LGBTQ+ individuals, including decreasing the negative mental health effects of discrimination. In this brief report, we present results from an exploratory study examining two factors that impact individuals' involvement in activist groups internalized heterosexism and connection to LGBTQ+ community. Participants (N = 1999) were LGBTQ+ adults aged 18-80 who were recruited online. Results revealed that participants who engaged in activist groups reported more connection to the LGBTQ+ community and less internalized heterosexism when compared to participants who did not engage in activist groups.Understanding structural excursions of proteins under folding conditions is crucial to map energy landscapes of proteins. In the present study, OneG computational tool has been used for analyzing possible existence of cryptic intermediates and metastable states of 26 proteins for which three prerequisite inputs of the OneG such as atomic coordinates of proteins, free energy of unfolding (ΔGU) and free energy of exchange (ΔGHX) determined in the absence of denaturant were available during the course of the study. The veraciousness of the tool on predicting the partially folded states of the proteins has been comprehensively described using experimental data available for 15 of the 26 proteins. Meanwhile, possible existence of partially structured states in the folding pathways of 11 other proteins has also been delineated as predicted by the OneG. In addition to mapping the folding pathways of proteins, the salient merits of the tool on systematically addressing the discrepancy between the ΔGU and the ΔGHX of the proteins have also been dealt.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. The tumor expression levels of receptor tyrosine kinase genes, including VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, PDGFR-α, PDGFR-β, ALK, EGFR, ErbB2, and B-RAF, were analyzed. VEGFR was overexpressed in tumor tissues compared to the normal tissues. Considering the high frequency of B-RAF mutation in canine urological tumors, the B-RAF gene was examined, and the B-RAF V595E mutation was detected in the tumor tissue. Therefore, the antitumor effect of sorafenib, a multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitor, on unresectable metastatic urethral TCC characterized by B-RAF V595E was evaluated and circulating cell-free tumor DNA (ctDNA) was assessed for monitoring the treatment response. After the initiation of oral sorafenib therapy (4 mg/kg/day escalated to 10 mg/kg/day), the dysuria was alleviated gradually, and the patient remained stable for 3 months. During that treatment period, the patient showed various levels of changes associated with B-RAF V595E mutation in ctDNA as evident from longitudinal plasma samples after initiation of sorafenib therapy. The findings of this study suggest that ctDNA may serve as a useful non-invasive tool for monitoring the treatment response to anticancer drugs.Thailand is facing a management crisis of both urban and rural household hazardous waste (HHW). The collection and disposal of these wastes threaten both the environment and human health. The objective of the study was to investigate the characterization and quantification of household hazardous waste at source by all local administrations in Nakhon Nayok province, Thailand. The quantity of HHW in the household waste stream constitutes 2.53% of total household wastes (about 2.90 t/day). Most HHWs were generated in the local administration level (3.2%) followed by the subdistrict (2.9%) and municipality level (1.2%). The characterization of HHWs included paint products (20.1%), household batteries (17.4%), and unused medicines (14.1%). HHW characterization can be grouped as automobile products from municipalities (38.5%), paint and its containers from the subdistricts (43.08%), and pesticides from the more rural local administrations (24.73%). Albeit the amount of HHW waste found in the household waste stream is relatively small compared to the overall waste stream, it can still cause significant damage to human health and environment. This is because the elements and compounds that comprise hazard wastes are toxic at very low levels. Programs are needed to increase appropriate management of HHW to mitigate human health and environmental contamination risks. Reducing and separating HHW at source can minimize these problems during both normal and pandemic situations.Implications The study of household hazardous waste (HHW) characterization and quantification is very importance for HHW management, especially study at source. In this study we found the smallest province in Thailand can produce HHW volume nearly three tons per day. The trend in consumption of household products may be increase. The government should therefore be more focused on HHW at source management in both normal and pandemic situations. Background Fibrous histiocytoma (FH), a mesenchymal tumour, usually have an orbital presentation. Rarely, FH in both benign and malignant forms have been reported at limbus and conjunctiva. Present narrative review was conducted to determine demographic profile, clinical presentation and management options for this rare tumour. Methods PubMed database was searched to identify articles presenting with fibrous histiocytoma of conjunctiva, cornea and limbus. ABR-238901 supplier Data was tabulated for age of presentation, sex, eye involved, area of involvement, if tumor was benign or malignant, management and recurrences. Results Total of 35 articles were selected, which included 42 cases, of which 27 were benign and 15 malignant. 25 cases showed presence of limbal FH, 12 conjunctival, 4 caruncular and 1 corneal FH. Mean age of presentation was 30.9 years with male preponderance (females-10, males-17) in benign FH while malignant FH presented with mean age of 44.5 years and sex distribution of 7 females and 8 males. 4 cases of benign FH showed recurrence, which required re-excision and immunotherapy, while recurrence in malignant FH was 60%, where 4 needed exenteration, 3 enucleation and 1 expired due to metastasis. Conclusion FH is one of the rare ocular tumours of eye presenting usually at the limbus and conjunctiva and rarely cornea. Histopathological examination along with immunostaining has a definite role in the diagnosis. Surgical excision with tumour free margins is the corner stone of treatment. Recurrences in benign varieties need re-excision or immunotherapy, while malignant cases need aggressive surgical options like exenteration or enucleation.
