Water scarcity is expected to extend to more regions of the world and represents an alarming threat to food security worldwide. Under such circumstances, water holding capacity is an important agronomic trait, which is primarily controlled by soil texture.

Our work examined three different soil textures from three cities of Shaanxi Province in China, i.e., silt-sandy loam from Yulin (north of Shaanxi), loam-clay loam from Yangling (middle and western part of Shaanxi), and clay loam-clay from Hanzhong soil (south of Shaanxi), at two moisture levels, i.e., field capacity of 70-75% (well-watered) and 50-55% (water deficit).

The differences in soil particle sizes altered the soil physiochemical properties and soil enzymatic activities. Soil urease and ß-glucosidase activities were significantly higher in the Yangling soil under the well-watered treatment, while the differences were nonsignificant under the water deficit conditions. The leaf photosynthesis rate and total chlorophyll content were significantlle, which are useful for the growth and development of tomato plants.

We examined the relationship between epicardial fat thickness (EFT) measured by echocardiography and left ventricular diastolic function parameters in a Beijing community population.

We included 1004 participants in this study. Echocardiographic parameters including E and A peak velocity, the early diastolic velocities (e') of the septal and lateral mitral annulus using tissue doppler imaging, E/e', and EFT were measured. EFT1 was measured perpendicularly on the right ventricular free wall at end diastole in the extension line of the aortic root. EFT2 was the maximum thickness measured perpendicularly on the right ventricular free wall at end diastole. Multivariable linear regression was used to analyze the relationship between EFT and the mean e' and E/e'.

The mean age of the participants was 63.91 ± 9.02years, and 51.4% were men. EFT1 and EFT2 were negatively correlated with lateral e', septal e', and mean e' (p < 0.05), and the correlation coefficient for EFT1 and EFT2 and mean e' was - 0.138 and - 0.180, respectively. EFT1 and EFT2 were positively correlated with lateral E/e', septal E/e', and mean E/e' (p < 0.05), and the correlation coefficient for EFT1 and EFT2 and mean e' was 0.100 and 0.090, respectively. Multivariable egression analysis showed that EFT2 was independently and negatively associated with e' mean (β = - 0.078 [95% confidence interval = - 0.143, - 0.012, p = 0.020]). There were no interactions between EFT2 and any covariates, including age or heart groups, sex, BMI, or presence of hypertension, diabetes, or coronary heart disease, in relation to left ventricular diastolic dysfunction.

EFT2 was negatively and independently associated with e' mean, which suggests that more attention to this type of adipose fat is required for cardiovascular disease therapy.

Patient-centred care is a core attribute of primary care. Not much is known about the relationship between patient-centred care and doctor-patient familiarity. This study aimed to explore the association between general practitioner (GP) perceived doctor-patient familiarity and the provision of patient-centred care during GP consultations.

This is a direct observational study conducted in eight community health centres in China. Pemrametostat purchase Level of familiarity was rated by GPs using a dichotomized variable (Yes/No). The provision of patient-centred care during GP consultations was measured by coding audiotapes using a modified Davis Observation Code (DOC) interactional instrument. Eight individual codes in the modified DOC were selected for measuring the provision of patient-centred care, including 'family information', 'treatment effects', 'nutrition guidance', 'exercise guidance', 'health knowledge', 'patient question', 'chatting', and 'counseling'. Multivariate analyses of covariance were adopted to evaluate the is needed to confirm and expand on these findings.

This study suggested that GP perceived doctor-patient familiarity may not be associated with GPs' provision of patient-centred care during consultations in the context of China. Not unexpectedly, patients would show more health knowledge and ask more questions when GPs were not familiar with them. Further research is needed to confirm and expand on these findings.

Soluble suppression of tumorigenesis-2 (sST2), Procollagen Type III N-Terminal Peptid (PIIINP) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) have been verified their role in predicting survival in acutely decompensated heart failure (ADHF). However, whether their combination could improve more specific and sensitive prognostic information than NT-proBNP alone remains unclear.

This was a prospective study, in which 217 ADHF patients at admission were enrolled from November 2018 and August 2019 (mean age 66.18years ± 13.60, 63.98% male). The blood samples were collected to measure the concentrations of NT-proBNP, sST2 and PIIINP in the first 24h of hospitalizations. All-cause mortality was registered for all patients after they were discharge over a median period of 339days.

In univariate Cox analysis, the three biomarkers were predictive of short-term mortality of ADHF patients. After adjusted for some clinical variables including age, admission systolic blood pressure, peripheral edema on adINP may provide incremental prognostic value over NT-proBNP in the survival of ADHF patients.

NT-proBNP, sST2 and PIIINP are independent prognostic factors for all-cause mortality in ADHF patients. Furthermore, the combination of NT-proBNP and PIIINP may provide incremental prognostic value over NT-proBNP in the survival of ADHF patients.

Many important applications in bioinformatics, including sequence alignment and protein family profiling, employ sequence weighting schemes to mitigate the effects of non-independence of homologous sequences and under- or over-representation of certain taxa in a dataset. These schemes aim to assign high weights to sequences that are 'novel' compared to the others in the same dataset, and low weights to sequences that are over-represented.

We formalise this principle by rigorously defining the evolutionary 'novelty' of a sequence within an alignment. This results in new sequence weights that we call 'phylogenetic novelty scores'. These scores have various desirable properties, and we showcase their use by considering, as an example application, the inference of character frequencies at an alignment column-important, for example, in protein family profiling. We give computationally efficient algorithms for calculating our scores and, using simulations, show that they are versatile and can improve the accuracy of character frequency estimation compared to existing sequence weighting schemes.
