The above findings provide preliminary clues supporting that the imbalanced gut microbiota may not be fully restored in recovered patients, highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring of gut health in people who have recovered from COVID-19.Background/Aims Health promotion and the incorporation of health-protective behaviors in people's lifestyles have a great role in enhancing individuals' overall health and well-being. College students are at increased risk of developing unhealthy dietary and lifestyle behaviors. A cross-sectional pilot study was conducted to assess the health-risk behaviors among undergraduate college students at Jordan University of Science and Technology. Methods The final sample included 136 students, with a mean age of 21.1 ± 2.37 years, mostly females (69%). A self-reported questionnaire was used for data collection about dietary and lifestyle behaviors among college students. The questionnaire consisted of four parts sociodemographic characteristics, body weight classifications, lifestyle behaviors, and dietary patterns and intake, and eating behaviors. Results Most of the students did not meet the daily recommendations for fruit (76%) and vegetable (82%) intake. Males were significantly consuming fast food more frequently (p = 0.019), and smoked cigarettes (p less then 0.001) or hookah (p = 0.015) more frequently than did females. Further, the majority met the recommendations for physical activity (81%), but exceeded recommendations for sedentary behavior. Females were more likely to have normal weight or be underweight (OR = 4.865), to have a fear of weight gain (OR = 3.387), and to have the recommended sleeping hours (OR = 7.685) than were males. Conclusion The results indicate the health-risk behaviors and the gender-related differences among college students.Purpose We examined the housing trajectories of homeless people with mental illness over a follow-up period of 6 years and the association of these trajectories with food security. We then examined the modifying role of psychopathology and alcohol and substance use disorders in this association. Materials and Methods We followed 487 homeless adults with mental illness at the Toronto site of the At Home/Chez-Soi project-a randomized trial of Housing First. Food security data were collected seven times during the follow-up period. Psychopathology (Colorado Symptom Index score) and alcohol and substance use disorders were assessed at baseline. Housing trajectories were identified using group-based trajectory modeling. Logistic regression was used to estimate the association between housing trajectory groups and food security. Results Three housing trajectory groups were identified rapid move to consistent stable housing (34.7%), slow and inconsistent housing (52.1%), and never moved to stable housing (13.2%). Individuals included in the rapid move to consistent housing trajectory group had higher odds of remaining food secure compared with those in the never moved to stable housing trajectory group over the follow-up period [AOR 2.9, 95% CI 1.3-6.6, P-value 0.009]. However, when interactions were considered, this association was significant among those with moderate psychopathology but not severe psychopathology. Individuals with substance use disorder and in the never moved to stable housing group had the lowest food security status. Discussion Severe psychopathology and substance use disorders modified the association between housing trajectories and food security. We aimed to investigate whether VA measurements using low-contrast high-pass optotypes are more sensitive to macular dysfunction in glaucoma and to find the potential structural basis of this difference. Methods A total of 147 subjects were recruited, including 118 patients with glaucoma (mean age 46.08 ± 14.64 years) and 29 healthy controls (mean age 39.83 ± 9.81 years). For each participant, monocular best-corrected VA was measured using a conventional chart and six high-pass charts at 100, 50, 10, 5, 2.5, and 1.25% contrast levels, respectively. The macular retinal thickness and circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) thickness of all the glaucoma patients were obtained by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Results Compared with healthy subjects, glaucoma patients with normal vision demonstrated worse VAs in high-pass acuity measurements (0.22-0.93 vs. Elacestrant 0.28-1.08, p 0.05). Conclusions VA measurement taken with low-contrast (1.25%) high-pass acuity chart is more sensitive in detecting central visual loss in glaucoma than that taken with the conventional chart. Macular RGC damage appears to be associated with low-contrast (1.25%) high-pass visual loss in glaucomatous eyes.Behçet's disease (BD) is a rare inflammatory condition characterized by oral and genital ulcers, skin lesions, as well as ophthalmological, neurological, and gastrointestinal manifestations. BD involving the gastrointestinal tract is known as intestinal BD. The mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract of patients with intestinal BD exhibits enhanced levels of proinflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α. These proinflammatory cytokines play pathogenic roles in the development of BD, as evidenced by the fact that biologics targeting these cytokines effectively induce BD remission. It should be noted, however, that the molecular mechanisms by which the blockade of these cytokines suppresses chronic inflammatory responses in BD are poorly understood. Herein, we report a case of intestinal BD resistant to prednisolone that was successfully treated with infliximab (IFX). The induction of remission by IFX was accompanied by a marked elevation of IL-6 and forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) at mRNA level. This case suggests that induction of remission by IFX is mediated not only by the suppression of TNF-α-mediated signaling pathways, but also by the promotion of IL-6 expression and accumulation of regulatory T cells expressing FOXP3.
