Gastric cancer currently represents one of the most important public health problems. Recent studies have demonstrated the existence of strong correlations between the vegetative nervous system and the role it plays in the initiation of the oncogenetic process and the progression of cancer. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the involvement of the sympathetic and parasympathetic vegetative nervous system in the evolution of gastric cancer, according to the stage of tumor differentiation. In this current paper we have included a number of four patients diagnosed with gastric cancer post UGI (Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) and have analyzed relations that exist between the tumor differentiation degree and the metanephrine and normetanephrine serum level in the blood of the patients. Following the research, we have observed an increased value of the metanephrine and normetanephrine serum level in the patient which displayed the lowest degree of differentiation. AIMS The objective of this paper is to study the importance of HLA-B27 antigen in the development of reactive arthritis. PATIENTS AND METHODS The transversal, observational study was conducted in the Rheumatology Clinic of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova during the period 2012-2015 and included 112 patients. They were divided into three groups, as follows group I (52 reactive arthritis cases), group II (30 other spondyloarthritis cases), group III (40 osteoarthritis cases). ELISA and PCR techniques were used to determine the antigen. RESULTS Those whom had this genetic marker present, the number of enthesitis almost doubled highlighting a possible correlation between the antigen and these imaging changes. We can confirm the same thing for the erosions as well. Unlike enthesitis, erosions occurred also in group III (37.5%), but if we refer to the first two groups, we will observe a significant relationship regarding HLA-B27. PRT062607 research buy More specifically, in HLA-B27 positive patients (68.97%), erosions were found to be twice as numerous than in HLA-B27 negative patients (31.03%). In group I we identified stage 2 sacroiliitis in 68% of HLA-B27 positive patients and 32% in HLA-B27 negative, which shows another link to this antigen with both joint destruction and a possible unfavorable evolution of reactive arthritis. CONCLUSIONS This antigen specific to the seronegative group of spondyloarthritis determines the acceleration of articular destruction, translated by erosion, and the evolution of sacroiliitis to a more advanced stage. This is evidenced by reconstructing the meanings of Alfred Benninghoff's remarkable memoir of Ferdinand Count Spee, sometime director of the anatomical institute in the University of Kiel. Thematizing the 'tragedy' of the emeritus, Benninghoff's 1944 article recalls his predecessor's possessive interactions with his collections as these approached assorted endings. With nostalgia and humour, it places the old aristocrat physically, intellectually and emotionally in a building that bombing would soon destroy. Benninghoff's Spee retained control over the microscope slides with which he engaged colleagues in conversations about research in embryology and physiological anatomy. He lost authority over the teaching charts and wet preparations, but still said a long farewell to these things; he tried, like a conductor alone after a concert, to recapture an experience he had once shared. The elegy is interpreted as apologetic about anatomy under National Socialism, and as offering a model of collegiality. It illustrates how collections have mediated relations between scientific generations at the end of a career.Soft tissue sarcomas are a rare and heterogeneous group of malignancies that present significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Patient stratification based on tumor aggressiveness and early therapeutic response based on quantitative imaging may improve prediction of treatment response and the evaluation of new treatment strategies in clinical trials. The purpose of this pilot study was to determine the technical feasibility of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI for the evaluation of sarcoma stiffness and perfusion in 9 patients with histologically confirmed sarcoma. Additionally, we assessed the feasibility of utilizing MRE and DCE-MRI for the early evaluation of response to radiation therapy in 4 patients to determine the utility of further evaluation in a larger cohort study. Tumor size, stiffness, and perfusion parameters all decreased from baseline at the time of the pre-surgery or follow-up MRI, and results were compared to pathology or conventional imaging. MRE and DCE-MRI may be useful for the quantitative evaluation of tumor stiffness and perfusion, and therapy response assessment in soft tissue sarcomas. Background At the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), 10% of patients living with HIV do not return for care annually. Currently, no formal system exists to re-engage out-of-care (OOC) patients. Lost & Found, developed using an implementation science approach, is an intervention to re-engage OOC patients. It is based on existing evidence-based interventions and will be adapted for use by nurses at the MUHC. The aims of this study are to simultaneously assess both implementation and effectiveness of Lost & Found in order to determine the viability of a future multisite stepped-wedge cluster randomised trial. Methods Lost & Found consists of two core elements identifying and contacting OOC patients. Based on formative work involving MUHC nurses, and the use of a combined implementation framework (enhanced Replicating Effective Programs, Tailored Implementation for Chronic Diseases, and Proctor et al.'s implementation outcomes), we will adapt the intervention to our clinic. Adaptations include the creation of an OOC risk prediction tool, an automated real-time OOC list, and prioritization of high-risk OOC patients for re-engagement.
