This study investigates the phylogenetic relationships, timing of diversification, and biogeographic history of the genus from a taxonomically comprehensive mutilocus dataset analyzed using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian methods of phylogenetic inference, coalescence-based species-tree estimation, divergence time estimation, and inference of geographic range evolution. RESULTS Analyses of comparative DNA sequence data in a phylogenetic context reveal the existence of two major clades of similar species-level diversity and provide support for the monophyletic status of most sampled species. Biogeographic reconstruction on a time-scaled phylogeny suggest that the origins of the genus date back to the late Oligocene and that current geographic distributions are the result of a Congo Basin origin followed by dispersal and range expansion into adjacent ichthyofaunal provinces at different times during the evolutionary history of the group. find more CONCLUSIONS We present the most comprehensive phylogenetic, chronological, and biogeographic treatment yet conducted for the genus. The objective of this study was to examine the levels of aldehydes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and Particulate Matter (PM)2.5 generated from cooking process in food trucks. Methods Area sampling was performed twice at two participating food trucks during work shifts. Nine aldehydes and eighteeen PAHs were analyzed according to the relevant standard methods while PM2.5 was measured with a real time monitor. Ventilation performance of the food truck exhaust hoods was also investigated using a thermal anemometer. Findings Formaldehyde was the only aldehyde detected in all samples with a concentration range of 7.16 to 53.68 µg/m3. No PAHs were detected above the limit of quantification. Average PM2.5 concentrations ranged from 0.65 to 7.03 mg/m3. Food Trucks 1 and 2 have an average exhaust flow rate of 211 and 215 L/s per linear meter of hood, respectively. Conclusions/Application to practice Overall, Food Truck 2 had consistently higher levels of aldehydes and PM2.5 with comparable ventilation performance as Food Truck 1. The higher exposure levels of Food Truck 2 could possibly be attributed to a larger volume of food orders and the heavy duty cooking equipment with an exhaust flow rate below the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recommendations. Although more investigations need to be performed, the findings could be used to raise awareness of food truck workers and health practitioners to reduce potential exposure risks.Background Employee engagement, exemplified by positive perceptions of supervisors, workplace, and job, improves productivity and employee retention. We identified the extent of and barriers to employee engagement at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). Methods In 2015, NCHHSTP's leadership collected baseline data through a centerwide Employee Engagement Pulse Survey (EEPS) from NCHHSTP's full-time Civil Service employees, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps officers, and Title 42 service fellows. EEPS included six demographic questions; nine Likert-type scale questions measuring 26 perceptions related to immediate supervisors, the work environment, and job satisfaction; and four open-ended questions soliciting recommendations for improvement. Findings Among 727 of 1,171 staff (response rate = 62%), positive perceptions of supervisors ranged from a high of 94% (supervisor conducts performance reviews) to a low of 63% (supervisor assists employees with career development). Perceptions of work experience ranged from 98% (respondents were willing to put in extra effort to get a job done) to 68% (respondents' talents were used well in the workplace). Perceptions of job satisfaction ranged from 87% (support from their coworkers) to 69% (satisfaction with opportunities to learn or grow professionally). Conclusion/Application to Practice Overall, NCHHSTP staff have positive perceptions of their work, their leaders, and the agency. Other public- and private-sector employers might be able to improve their employees' engagement and retention by listening to their opinions and needs and frequently recognizing their individual achievements. NCHHSTP's workforce development initiatives can be used as a model for assessing a baseline of their employees' engagement.Background The application of external abdominal pressure by endoscopy nurses has long been recognized to facilitate passage of the endoscope during colonoscopy. Applying sustained abdominal pressure during a colonoscopy for an obese patient is especially challenging and may result in musculoskeletal injury for the endoscopy nurse. Methods Four experienced endoscopy nurses cared for 100 obese adult patients scheduled for colonoscopy who had a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25 kg/m2. Duration of applied pressure, as well as nurse pain and fatigue were examined after they cared for 50 patients with and 50 patients without a positioning wedge. Findings No difference in the mean fatigue score between nurses providing standard care versus those using the positing wedge was observed (mean score 2.6 vs. 2.0, respectively); however, self-reported pain was higher for those providing standard care relative to those using the positioning wedge (mean score 2.9 vs. 1.3, p = .0143).
