This work describes a new polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for rapid identification of the fish pathogens Tenacibaculum dicentrarchi, T. maritimum and T. soleae, 3 organisms which can cause tenacibaculosis in farmed salmonids. The selected primers amplified a 688 bp fragment for T. dicentrarchi, a 288 bp fragment of the T. maritimum and a 183 bp fragment of the T. soleae 16S rRNA genes. The PCR assay was shown to be both specific and sensitive with a detection limit of approximately 50 fg DNA for each species in the presence of competing DNA. The multiplex PCR allowed detection of each pathogen from pure or mixed cultures, where the different Tenacibaculum species can be difficult to distinguish phenotypically. Our results indicate that the specific primers and PCR method developed here provide sensitive and fast detection of T. dicentrarchi, T. maritimum and T. soleae alone or in combination. The Caribbean spiny lobster Panulirus argus supports a large and valuable fishery in the Caribbean Sea. In 2007-2008, a rare microsporidian parasite with spore characteristics typical of the Ameson genus was detected in 2 spiny lobsters from southeast Florida (FL). However, the parasite species was not confirmed by molecular analyses. To address this deficiency, reported here are structural and molecular data on single lobsters displaying comparable 'cotton-like' abdominal muscle containing ovoid microsporidian spores found at different locations in FL in 2014 and 2018 and in Saint Kitts and Nevis Islands in 2017. In the lobster from 2014, multiple life stages consistent with an Ameson-like monokaryotic microsporidian were detected by transmission electron microscopy. A partial (1228 bp) small subunit (SSU) rRNA gene sequence showed each microsporidia to be identical and positioned it closest phylogenetically to Ameson pulvis in a highly supported clade also containing A. michaelis, A. metacarcini, A. selleck compound portunus, and Nadelspora canceri. Using ecological, pathological, ultrastructural, and molecular data, the P. argus microsporidian has been assigned to a distinct species Ameson herrnkindi.INTRODUCTION Radiofrequency (RF)-based treatment has been introduced as an esthetic alternative treatment for various medical indications without the scientific backup of a satisfactory body of evidence. Furthermore, the United States Food and Drug Administration issued a warning regarding the safety of energy-based technologies for indications such as vaginal "rejuvenation," cosmetic vaginal treatment, vaginal conditions related to menopause, and symptoms of urinary incontinence and sexual function on July 30, 2018. AIM To perform a thorough review of the existing literature regarding RF-based vaginal devices for the treatment of female genitourinary indications and summarize the evidence available in a few short statements. METHODS A thorough review of the literature regarding RF treatments for gynecological indications was performed based on several databases. Studies that included at least 15 patients were eligible for analysis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Efficacy of RF devices for different genitourinary indications. RESULTS Although a high level of heterogeneity of studies poses a serious challenge, the committee reached a decision on several statements related to the use of RF-based devices for genitourinary indications. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS RF-based vaginal treatments have not been studied thoroughly enough in order to establish decisive recommendations regarding their safety and efficacy. STRENGTH & LIMITATIONS These position statements have been established by a group of experts. The lack of strong evidence makes it difficult to give decisive recommendations. CONCLUSIONS Further randomized controlled trials with proper methodology and design are required to establish both benefits and possible harm these treatments may have in both short and long term for all the different indications studied. INTRODUCTION Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is benign tumor in male which is histopathologically known with an increase of epithelial cells and prostatic stroma. Androgens, estrogens, stroma-epithelial interactions, growth factors, and chronic inflammation play a role in the occurrence of BPH. Chronic inflammation in BPH is characterized by excessive expression of COX-2 which will trigger the expression of Bcl-2 anti-apoptotic protein. Dayak onion (Eleutherine americana Merr) is a typical Kalimantan plant that is believed as the treatment for prostate disease. This plant contains flavonoids which can inhibit the COX-2 enzyme. Thus, it causes a reduction in the production of prostaglandin E2. METHOD This research was an experimental research computationally and in vitro laboratory experimental research to determine COX-2 inhibitory activity by ethanol extracts of dayak onion. RESULT AND DISCUSSION In insilico flavonoid, it was strongly related to COX-2 receptor on the active side of TYR371. Thus, it had the potential to inhibit COX-2. COX-2 Inhibitor would cause bcl-2 to be inactive so that apoptosis occurred in BPH. In the in vitro research using human whole blood assay, the Dayak Onion bulb ethanol extract had IC50 COX-2 of 40.57 ng/ml and IC50 COX-1 of 364.89 ng/ml. Therefore, the ratio of IC50 COX-2 to IC50 COX-1 was 0.11. CONCLUSION Ethanol extract of Dayak onion bulb has inhibitory activity against COX-2. Thus, it has potential as innovation of BPH treatment. Patient Summary Male, age 25-35 years old, healthy (history taking, physical and laboratory examination), and not using NSAIDs for the past 2 weeks.
