The study reveals the vancomycin resistance behavior of HA-MRSA USA100 strains in dual media conditions using wide-ranging experiments.Genome sequence assemblies provide the basis for our understanding of biology. Generating error-free assemblies is therefore the ultimate, but sadly still unachieved goal of a multitude of research projects. Despite the ever-advancing improvements in data generation, assembly algorithms and pipelines, no automated approach has so far reliably generated near error-free genome assemblies for eukaryotes. Whilst working towards improved datasets and fully automated pipelines, assembly evaluation and curation is actively used to bridge this shortcoming and significantly reduce the number of assembly errors. In addition to this increase in product value, the insights gained from assembly curation are fed back into the automated assembly strategy and contribute to notable improvements in genome assembly quality. We describe our tried and tested approach for assembly curation using gEVAL, the genome evaluation browser. We outline the procedures applied to genome curation using gEVAL and also our recommendations for assembly curation in a gEVAL-independent context to facilitate the uptake of genome curation in the wider community.

This study sought to identify phenotypic variations among individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD) that may, in part, help improve the effectiveness of existing AUD interventions.

Latent class analysis was conducted to examine the potential heterogeneity of AUD in a sample (N=220; Mage=51.19years, standard deviation=9.94; 37.7% female) of treatment-seeking participants diagnosed with AUD using DSM-5 criteria.

Three distinct patterns of responses to the 11 DSM-5 AUD symptoms emerged Class 1 (n=114, 51.8%), Class 2 (n=78, 35.5%) and Class 3 (n=28, 12.7%). The identified profiles were further differentiated by demographics, alcohol-related constructs, individual difference characteristics and diagnostic and treatment variables. The findings have implications for refining AUD assessment as well as optimizing personalized treatment.

Factors associated with spondyloarthritis-related uveitis (SpA-U) are poorly defined in literature. The influence of smoking status on the occurrence of uveitis in SpA is controversial. To clarify the factors associated with SpA-U, we performed an observational cross-sectional study in a Tertiary Rheumatology Centre. Factors independently associated with uveitis were determined by logistic regression models. The study included 164 patients fulfilling the ASAS criteria for axial SpA with follow-up visit between January and June 2019. Smoking was independently associated with uveitis (OR=2.54; 95%CI [1.01-6.42]; p=0.03). Our study emphasizes the importance of smoking cessation in SpA which may have a positive effect in different disease features like uveitis and overall prognosis.Chikungunya virus is known to cause acute disease characterized by fever, rash, myalgias, conjunctivitis and arthritis, having potential to cause chronic musculoskeletal disease, namely persistent arthritis. The area of spread of the virus in the world has been increasing and the migratory flows make the occurrence of Chikungunya induced chronic arthritis more and more scattered. Data regarding the experience of Portuguese rheumatology centres in identifying and treating chronic ChikV induced arthritis are not available. The authors describe the diagnosis and treatment aspects of three cases of "imported" Chikungunya induced chronic arthritis, briefly discuss its approach in the light of current knowledge and alert to the possibility this situation may become more prevalent in the Portuguese rheumatology setting. We report the case of a 40-year old woman followed at our Rheumatology department for a 14-year history of a relatively well controlled Sjögren's syndrome who developed, for the first time in life, lesions suggestive of subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, nine weeks after taking oral terbinafine prescribed for onychomycosis. She denied additional symptoms, namely systemics, and no other clinical finding besides cutaneous lesions were detected. No laboratory findings were in favour of a flare of her connective tissue disease. 3-O-Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic Here we explore the possibility of terbinafine-induced subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus in the context of previous autoimmunity. This clinical case highlights the importance of avoiding the prescription of terbinafine in this kind of patients.

Characterization of sociodemographic and clinical aspects of patients admitted to the Orthopedic Department (OD) after observation in the Emergency Room (ER) with the diagnosis of septic arthritis (SA).

A retrospective, monocentric, cross-sectional study was conducted. Sociodemographic and clinical data on patients admitted to the OD with suspected SA between April 2014 and September 2019 were collected.

One-hundred and ten patients were included. In the overall sample, most patients were male (n=61; 55.5%) with a median age of 70 (IQR=20) years old. Thirty-six patients (32.7%) had a previous history of hyperuricemia or gout, or had this diagnosis established at the time of their hospital admission. Monoarthritis was the most common form of presentation (n=106; 96.4%), with the knee being the most frequently involved joint (n=60; 54.5%). S. aureus was the most representative microorganism in synovial fluid (SF) cultures (n=33; 30.6%). SF cultures did not allow the identification of a causative microorgagative SF culture in patients with hyperuricemia or gout should alert us for the possibility of misdiagnosis of SA in patients with an acute gout attack.
