It is known that antidepressant drugs can induce sleep disorders in patients, but little data exist about high or low-risk molecules. The aim was to study the frequency of antidepressant drugs-induced sleep disorders (DISD) by molecule.
77,391 patient comments for 32 antidepressant drugs were collected from drug review websites and screened for DISD. Association between drugs and nightmare disorder, restless legs syndrome, sleep paralysis, sleep terrors, sleep-related hallucinations or sleep walking was expressed as relative proportion [proportional reporting ratio (PRR)]. A detailed analysis of the dreams content was also carried out.
Amitriptyline, doxepin, fluvoxamine, mirtazapine, nortriptyline, trazodone, venlafaxine and vilazodone were associated with a greater frequency of DISD compared to other antidepressants. Vilazodone heavily increased the probability of developing 5 of the 6 studied DISD (PRR 3.3 to 19.3) and mirtazapine increased the probability for developing 4 DISD (PRR 2.4 to 6.4). This article explores participants' actions and their appraisals of their teaching practice in relation to disability in campus-based education. The study was conducted with 19 Spanish faculty members from the Health Sciences who were nominated by their students with disabilities for having contributed to their inclusion. We carried out a qualitative study based on individual, in-depth, semi-structured interviews. We analysed the data progressively, using a system of categories and codes. The results section outlines the actions taken by faculty members upon learning that they were going to be teaching a student with disabilities, analysing what specific measures they took in accordance with the type of disability in question, and what they found most rewarding and most difficult or unpleasant about their experience with these students in the classroom. The study concludes that the voices of these faculty members may encourage other colleagues to rethink their actions in the classroom and engage in more inclusive practices.Southern Africa remains the epicentre of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic with AIDS the leading cause of death amongst adolescents. Poor policy translation, inadequate programme implementation and fragmentation of services contribute to adolescents' poor access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services. This study assessed an integrated, school-based SRHR and HIV programme, modelled on the South African Integrated School Health Policy in a rural, high HIV-prevalence district. A retrospective cohort study of 1260 high-school learners was undertaken to assess programme uptake, change in HIV knowledge and behaviour and the determinants of barrier-methods use at last sexual intercourse. Programme uptake increased (2%-89%; P�5 sexual partners in the last year (aOR=0.59; 95% CI 0.38-0.91) reduced the odds. This study shows that the unmet SRHR needs of under-served adolescents can be addressed through integrated, school-based SRHR programmes.Large-scale digital flu vaccine campaigns have experienced difficulty increasing vaccination coverage among African Americans and Hispanics, and are routinely inundated by negative responses from vaccine opponents. A digital campaign employing user-generated content from social media 'micro' influencers who are predominantly followed by African Americans and Hispanics was implemented during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 flu seasons to disseminate positive information about the flu vaccine. At the time, this constituted the largest influencer-driven health campaign focused on these communities in the United States. Comments on posts were qualitatively coded to determine content perceptions among those exposed to posts. Digital metrics were also analyzed. During Year 1, posts reached 9 million+ social media users and generated 64 612 likes or shares, and 1512 responses. In Year 2, posts reached 8 million+ users and generated 155 600 likes or shares, and 3122 responses. Around 94% of public responses to posts were positive, suggesting this is a promising strategy to communicate health information and could shift social norms, particularly for heavily debated topics such as vaccination. This strategy represents a more community-led and participatory approach than most large-scale vaccination campaigns have attempted, with immediate applicability to communications about the COVID-19 vaccine.Grafting is a means to connect tissues from two individual plants and grow a single chimeric plant through establishment of both apoplasmic and symplasmic connections. Recent molecular studies using RNA-sequencing data have provided genetic information on the processes involved in tissue reunion, including wound response, cell division, cell-cell adhesion, cell differentiation, and vascular formation. Thus, studies on grafting increase our understanding of various aspects of plant biology. Grafting has also been used to study systemic signaling and transport of micro- and macromolecules in the plant body. Given that graft viability and molecular transport across graft junctions largely depend on vascular formation, a major focus in grafting biology has been the mechanism of vascular development. In addition, it has been thought that symplasmic connections via plasmodesmata are fundamentally important to share cellular information among newly proliferated cells at the graft interface and to accomplish tissue differentiation correctly. Therefore, this review focuses on plasmodesmata formation during grafting. We take advantage of interfamily grafts for unambiguous identification of the graft interface and summarize morphological aspects of de novo formation of plasmodesmata. Important molecular events are addressed by re-examining the time-course transcriptome of interfamily grafts, from which we recently identified the cell-cell adhesion mechanism. Plasmodesmata-associated genes upregulated during graft healing that may provide a link to symplasm establishment are described. We also discuss future research directions.
