The increase in stroke volume during inotropic stimulation in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is called the "pump function reserve." Few studies have reported on the relationship between pump function reserve and HF prognosis. In HFrEF patients who have pump function reserve, stroke volume increases during exercise. Simply put, the pulse pressure change (∆PP) during cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPX) is closely related to the prognosis of patients with HFrEF. We hypothesized that ∆PP could predict disease severity and cardiovascular death in patients with HFrEF.Methods and ResultsA total of 224 patients with HFrEF who underwent symptom-limited maximal CPX between 2012 and 2016 were enrolled. During a median follow-up of 1.5 years, cardiovascular death occurred in 54 participants (24%). Patients who died demonstrated a lower ∆PP between rest and peak exercise (∆PP [peak-rest]) than those who survived (P<0.001). Cox regression analyses revealed that ∆PP, slope of the relationship between minute ventilation and carbon dioxide production, and B-type natriuretic peptide level were independent predictors of cardiovascular death in patients with HFrEF (P=0.001, 0.021, and <0.001, respectively).

This taxon represents a novel genus and species-here proposed as Candidatus Anthektikosiphon siderophilum-that expands the known taxonomic and genetic diversity of the Herpetosiphonaceae and helps orient the evolutionary history of key traits like photosynthesis and aerobic respiration in the Chloroflexi.Bradyrhizobium sp. strain SUTN9-2 is a symbiotic and endophytic diazotrophic bacterium found in legume and rice plants and has the potential to promote growth. The present results revealed that SUTN9-2 underwent cell enlargement, increased its DNA content, and efficiently performed nitrogen fixation in response to rice extract. Some factors in rice extract induced the expression of cell cycle and nitrogen fixation genes. According to differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from the transcriptomic analysis, SUTN9-2 was affected by rice extract and the deletion of the bclA gene. The up-regulated DEGs encoding a class of oxidoreductases, which act with oxygen atoms and may have a role in controlling oxygen at an appropriate level for nitrogenase activity, followed by GroESL chaperonins are required for the function of nitrogenase. These results indicate that following its exposure to rice extract, nitrogen fixation by SUTN9-2 is induced by the collective effects of GroESL and oxidoreductases. The expression of the sensitivity to antimicrobial peptides transporter (sapDF) was also up-regulated, resulting in cell differentiation, even when bclA (sapDF) was mutated. We herein constructed a database of growth TEMPeratures of Usual and RAre prokaryotes (TEMPURA, http//togodb.org/db/tempura), which contains the minimum, optimum, and maximum growth temperatures of 8,639 prokaryotic strains. Growth temperature information is linked with taxonomy IDs, phylogenies, and genomic information. Here, we describe a case of salmonella osteomyelitis of the right 6th rib in a 74-year-old woman who presented with breast pain, swelling, high fever and local heat. Her medical history showed myocardial infarction; namely, at the age of 71, the patient had undergone the drug-eluting stent placement in the left anterior descending artery. A computed tomography (CT) scan at the first visit to another hospital showed a mass in the chest that invaded the ribs. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography-computed tomography imaging showed a lesion suspected to be a mammary malignant tumor. A needle biopsy revealed mesenchymal cells and suspected mammary sarcoma. However, the osteomyelitis of the rib was diagnosed when pyogenic tissue was observed during an open biopsy. The bacterial culture examination identified Salmonella enterica. Surgical drainage and antibiotic treatment were performed. Importantly, there was no evidence for any underlying disease that could lead to an immunocompromised status of the patient. To our knowledge, this is the first report of salmonella osteomyelitis of the rib presenting in an older female that required differentiation from a mammary tumor. Paclitaxel concentrations were increased every 2 weeks, and after 12 weeks of paclitaxel exposure, two replicate paclitaxel-resistant cell lines were established (USPC1-PTSR1 and USPC1-PTXR2). The microarray analysis was performed using USPC1 cells and USPC1-PTXR1 cells, and eight candidate microRNAs were thus selected as potential mediators of paclitaxel sensitivity.
