Soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) proteins are a large protein complex that is involved in the membrane fusion in vesicle trafficking, cell growth, cytokinesis, membrane repair, and synaptic transmission. As one of the SNARE proteins, SEC22B functions in membrane fusion of vesicle trafficking between the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus, antigen cross-presentation, secretory autophagy, and other biological processes. However, apart from not being SNARE proteins, there is little knowledge known about its two homologs (SEC22A and SEC22C). SEC22B alterations have been reported in many human diseases, especially, many mutations of SEC22B in human cancers have been detected. In this review, we will introduce the specific functions of SEC22B, and summarize the researches about SEC22B in human cancers and other diseases. These findings have laid the foundation for further studies to clarify the exact mechanism of SEC22B in the pathological process and to seek new therapeutic targets and better treatment strategies.Two open-label, single-dose, randomized crossover studies were conducted in healthy Japanesemen to (1) assess dose proportionality of 5 doses (1.38, 2.75, 5.5, 8.25, and 11.0 mg) of Lafenta, a novel matrix-type transdermal fentanyl patch with a rate-controlling membrane; and (2) compare patch bioequivalence (11.0 mg) with a commercially available reference patch (Durotep MT Patch [16.8 mg]). Pharmacokinetics, adhesion performance, residual fentanyl, and safety parameters were assessed. Increases in mean AUC0-t and Cmax after application of the test patch were dose proportional. The test patch (11.0 mg) was bioequivalent to the 16.8-mg reference patch in terms of mean AUC0-inf , AUC0-t , and Cmax . Residual fentanyl levels 72 hours postapplication were lower in the test than in the reference patch. Differences in adhesion performance between the test and the reference patch did not affect delivery efficacy and reliability of the novel matrix patch. Safety findings were in line with previous experiences with fentanyl. Both studies showed low variation in fentanyl exposure and delivery via the test patch. The test patch provided equivalent fentanyl exposure at a lower dose than the reference patch formulation with lower variability and the potential to lower medicinal waste.This study compared the amount of apically extruded debris during root canal preparation with three single-file systems using liquid and gel-based formulations of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) or distilled water. Seventy-two single-canalled roots were divided into three groups HyFlex EDM (Coltene-Whaledent); Reciproc Blue (VDW); and F-One Blue (Shanghai Fanta) and then divided into three subgroups NaOCl liquid (Imicrly), NaOCl gel (Cerkamed Medical) and distilled water. The amount of extruded debris was calculated by determining the dry weight of the debris collected. Data were analysed using Kruskal-Wallis test with Bonferroni correction. Debris extrusion occurred in all subgroups. Both the instrument and the irrigant had an impact. The F-One Blue tended to extrude the least debris, though no significant difference was observed in the pairwise comparisons between instruments. NaOCl liquid resulted in significantly more extruded debris than NaOCl gel or distilled water. The results lead us to conclude that the NaOCl gel reduced debris extrusion compared to NaOCl liquid.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has disproportionately impacted the African American community. This study aims to identify the risk factors for severe COVID-19 disease in African American patients.

This was a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of African American patients with COVID-19 treated between March 12 and April 9, 2020, at a single tertiary center. The primary outcome of interest was severe disease defined as those requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission.

, P = 0.002). In unadjusted and adjusted analysis, the factors most associated with ICU admission in this sample were age (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.073; 95% CI 1.033-1.114), BMI (aOR 1.115; 95% CI 1.052-1.182), and lung disease (aOR 3.097; 95% CI 1.137-8.437).

Three views have been advanced to explain differences in seeking novel stimulation. The optimal stimulation hypothesis suggests that individuals seek further stimulation when they are under-responsive to current sensory input. The processing speed hypothesis proposes that those capable of processing information faster are driven to seek stimulation more frequently. The information prioritization hypothesis suggests the differences in stimulation seeking index variation in the prioritization of incoming relative to ongoing information processing. Ten-month-old infants saw 10 repetitions of a video clip and changes in frontal theta oscillatory amplitude were measured as an index of information processing speed. Stimulus-locked P1 peak amplitude in response to checkerboards briefly overlaid on the video at random points during its presentation indexed processing of incoming stimulation. Parental report of higher visual seeking did not relate to reduced P1 peak amplitude or to a stronger decrease in frontal theta amplitude with repetition, thus not supporting either the optimal stimulation or the processing speed hypotheses. Higher visual seeking occurred in those infants whose P1 peak amplitude was greater than expected based on their theta amplitude. These findings indicate that visual sensory seeking in infancy is explained by a bias toward novel stimulation, thus supporting the information prioritization hypothesis.
