These enzymes are also active against a subset of acyl-CoAs and play a key role in the regulation of subcellular (acyl-)CoA pools and CoA-dependent metabolic reactions. The evidence currently available indicates that the extracellular and intracellular (acyl-)CoA degradation pathways are regulated in a coordinated and opposite manner by the nutritional state and maximize the changes in the total intracellular CoA levels that support the metabolic switch between fed and fasted states in organs like the liver. The objective of this review is to update the contribution of these pathways to the regulation of metabolism, physiology and pathology and to highlight the many questions that remain open. Why are some people more religious than others? According to one hypothesis, people who strongly seek definitive explanations for situations with incomplete information are more likely to be religious. According to a different hypothesis, individuals with smaller "prediction error" responses to unexpected stimuli are more likely to discount evidence contradicting religious beliefs, predisposing them to maintain such beliefs. We sought neurophysiological evidence for these hypotheses using the N400 event-related potential (ERP), which is smaller to more contextually expected stimuli, reflecting prediction of probable completions for meaningful situations. We recorded ERPs from participants viewing category definitions followed by high-typicality category exemplar (HTE), low-typicality exemplar (LTE), or non-exemplar (NE) words. As expected, N400s were largest for NEs, intermediate for LTEs, and smallest for HTEs. Religiosity correlated with smaller N400 amplitude differences between HTEs and both LTEs and NEs. Less strong prediction of probable stimuli based on prior information may predispose to religiosity. The Arabidopsis immune receptors RPS4 and RRS1 interact to co-confer responsiveness to bacterial effectors. The RRS1-R allele, with RPS4, responds to AvrRps4 and PopP2, whereas RRS1-S responds only to AvrRps4. Here, we show that the C terminus of RRS1-R but not RRS1-S is phosphorylated. Phosphorylation at Thr1214 in the WRKY domain maintains RRS1-R in its inactive state and also inhibits acetylation of RRS1-R by PopP2. PopP2 in turn catalyzes O-acetylation at the same site, thereby preventing its phosphorylation. Phosphorylation at other sites is required for PopP2 but not AvrRps4 responsiveness and facilitates the interaction of RRS1's C terminus with its TIR domain. Derepression of RRS1-R or RRS1-S involves effector-triggered proximity between their TIR domain and C termini. This effector-promoted interaction between these domains relieves inhibition of TIRRPS4 by TIRRRS1. Our data reveal effector-triggered and phosphorylation-regulated conformational changes within RRS1 that results in distinct modes of derepression of the complex by PopP2 and AvrRps4. OBJECTIVE Despite of previous report regarding the aberrant overexpression of hsa_circ_0011290 in thyroid cancer, the regulatory mechanism and mechanistic involvements of which were still elusive currently in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Here we set out to characterize expression status and functional contributions of hsa_circ_0011290 in this disease especially through mode-of-action of sponging RNA. METHODS Relative expression of hsa_circ_0011290, microRNA (miR)-1252 and FSTL1 was quantified by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Glucose metabolism was determined by examination of glucose uptake, lactate production and ATP contents. The regulatory effects of miR-1252 on both hsa_circ_0011290 and Follistatin Like 1 (FSTL1) were interrogated by luciferase reporter assay. Direct binding between miR-1252 with hsa_circ_0011290 and FSTL1 transcripts were analyzed by RNA pulldown assay. Protein levels of FSTL1 was examined by Western blots. RESULTS Aberrant over-expression of hsa_circ_0011290 was associated witoncogenic contributions of hsa_circ_0011290-miR-1252-FSTL1 in PTCs. Numerous neuroimaging studies have shown that older adults tend to activate the brain to a greater extent than younger adults during the performance of a task. This is typically interpreted as evidence for cognitive compensation. The Compensation-Related Utilisation of Neural Circuits Hypothesis (CRUNCH) model is a highly influential model of compensation, and states that increased functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) activity in older adults compared to younger adults should reverse at higher levels of task difficulty. Here, the CRUNCH model was tested using a visuospatial working memory paradigm. find more fMRI activity in older vs. younger adults was in the opposite direction to that predicted by the model. Given that the CRUNCH model is the predominant model of compensation, this result was surprising. These results were followed up with a systematic review of the CRUNCH in healthy ageing literature. A surprisingly small number of published studies (4) have tested the predictions of the CRUNCH model. Further experimental work is required to validate the CRUNCH model in cognitive ageing. BACKGROUND Despite differing underlying pathophysiology, type 1 and type 2 myocardial infarction share many of the same diagnostic criteria and can be challenging to differentiate in clinical practice. Correctly differentiating type 1 from type 2 myocardial infarction is important because the two are managed differently. The aim of this study was to compare the patterns of rise of cardiac troponin (cTn) and creatine kinase MB (CK-MB) in type 1 versus type 2 myocardial infarction. METHODS We analyzed retrospective data on 200 patients with myocardial infarction (97 with type 1, 103 with type 2), excluding patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. The percent rise from trough to peak values and the ratio of the peak to the upper limit of normal (RULN) were calculated for both cTnT and CK-MB. The ratio of peak cTnT to peak CK-MB was also calculated before and after adjusting for sex, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and infarct size. RESULTS Type 1 myocardial infarction tended to be larger than type 2 myocardial infarction, with a significantly higher mean % rise for both cTnT and CK-MB as well as higher mean RULN (207 vs. 86 for cTnT, p=0.02; 9 vs. 4 for CK-MB, p=0.002). There was a trend toward a higher rise of cTnT than CK-MB in type 2 compared to type 1 myocardial infarction, as demonstrated by the ratio of peak cTnT to peak CK-MB (0.09 in type 2 myocardial infarction vs. 0.06 in type 1 myocardial infarction, p=0.06). This difference persisted after adjusting for sex, GFR, and infarct size (p=0.05). CONCLUSION Both cTnT and CK-MB rise higher in type 1 than in type 2 myocardial infarction. Meanwhile, cTnT tends to rise out of proportion to CK-MB in type 2 myocardial infarction. These patterns may have considerable implications for the differentiation and subsequent treatment of patients with type1 versus type 2 myocardial infarction.
