This paper presents a miniaturized, broadband near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer with a flame-retardant 4 (FR4)-based scanning micrograte. A 90° off-axis parabolic mirror and a crossed Czerny-Turner structure were used for creating an astigmatism-free optical system design. The optical system of the spectrometer consists of a 90° off-axis parabolic mirror, an FR4-based scanning micrograte, and a two-color indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) diode with a crossed Czerny-Turner structure optical design. We used a wide exit slit and an off-axis parabolic mirror with a short focal length to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the full spectrum. We enabled a miniaturized design for the spectrometer by utilizing a novel FR4 micrograte for spectral dispersion and spatial scanning. The spectrometer can detect the full near-infrared spectrum while only using a two-color InGaAs diode, and thus, the grating scanning angle of this spectrometer is small when compared to a dual-detector-based spectrometer. In addition, the angle signal can be obtained through an angle sensor, which is integrated into the scanning micrograte. The real-time angle signal is used to form a closed-loop control over the scanning micrograte and calibrate the spectral signal. Finally, a series of tests was performed. The experimental results showed that the spectrometer has a working wavelength range of 800-2500 nm. The resolution is 10 nm at a wavelength range of 800-1650 nm and 15 nm at a wavelength range of 1650-2500 nm. SCH-527123 ic50 Similarly, the stability of these two wavelength ranges is better than ±1 nm and ±2 nm, respectively. The spectrometer's volume is 80 × 75 × 65 mm3 and its weight is 0.5 kg. The maximum spectral fluctuation does not exceed 1.5% and the signal-to-noise ratio is 284 after only one instance of averaging. This article combines a systematic literature review on the fabrication of macroporous α-Al2O3 with increased specific surface area with recent results from our group. Publications claiming the fabrication of α-Al2O3 with high specific surface areas (HSSA) are comprehensively assessed and critically reviewed. An account of all major routes towards HSSA α-Al2O3 is given, including hydrothermal methods, pore protection approaches, dopants, anodically oxidized alumina membranes, and sol-gel syntheses. Furthermore, limitations of these routes are disclosed, as thermodynamic calculations suggest that γ-Al2O3 may be the more stable alumina modification for ABET > 175 m2/g. In fact, the highest specific surface area unobjectionably reported to date for α-Al2O3 amounts to 16-24 m2/g and was attained via a sol-gel process. In a second part, we report on some of our own results, including a novel sol-gel synthesis, designated as mutual cross-hydrolysis. Besides, the Mn-assisted α-transition appears to be a promising approach for some alumina materials, whereas pore protection by carbon filling kinetically inhibits the formation of α-Al2O3 seeds. These experimental results are substantiated by attempts to theoretically calculate and predict the specific surface areas of both porous materials and nanopowders. In this systematic review, a total of 45,143 publications on block copolymers, issued between 1952 and 2019, are analyzed in terms of number, source, language, institution, country, keywords, and block copolymer type, to find out their evolution and predict research trends. The number of publications devoted to block copolymers has been growing for over six decades, maintaining a consistent level throughout the last few years. In their majority, documents came out of the United States, although more recently, Chinese institutions are those displaying the largest production. Keywords analysis indicated that one-third of the publications concerned synthesis, around 20% explored self-assembly and morphological aspects, and another 20% referred to block copolymer applications in solution. In particular, 2019 confirmed the expansion of studies related to drug delivery, and in minor extent, to a deeper view of self-assembling. Styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer was the most popular in studies covering both basic and industrially oriented aspects. Other highly investigated copolymers are PEO-b-PPO-b-PEO (Pluronic©) and amphiphilic block copolymers based on polycaprolactone or poly(lactic acid), which owed their success to their potential as delivery vehicles. Future trending topics will concern nanomedicine challenges and technology-related applications, with a special attention toward the orientation and ordering of mesophase-separated morphologies. The treatment of leishmaniasis includes pentavalent antimony drugs but, because of the side effects, toxicity and cases of treatment failure or resistance, the search of new antileishmanial compounds are necessary. The aims of this study were to evaluate and compare the in vitro antileishmanial activity of four green tea catechins, and to assess the efficacy of topical (-)-epigallocatechin gallate in a cutaneous leishmaniasis model. The antileishmanial activity of green tea catechins was evaluated against intracellular amastigotes, and cytotoxicity was performed with human monocytic cell line. BALB/c mice were infected in the ear dermis with Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis and treated with topical 15% (-)-epigallocatechin gallate, intraperitoneal Glucantime, and control group. The efficacy of treatments was evaluated by quantifying the parasite burden and by measuring the lesions size. (-)-Epigallocatechin gallate and (-)-epigallocatechin were the most active compounds with IC50 values 1. Topical treatment with (-)-epigallocatechin gallate decreased significantly both lesion size and parasite burden (80.4% inhibition) compared to control group (p less then 0.05), and moreover (-)-epigallocatechin gallate showed a similar efficacy to Glucantime (85.1% inhibition), the reference drug for leishmaniasis treatment. This study clarified the patterns of possessing modifiable risk factors of dementia that can be corrected by the elderly who were primarily determined to have mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and then determined the relationship between retention patterns and outcomes from MCI through a 4-year follow-up study. The participants were 789 community-dwelling elders who were ≥65 years old with MCI at baseline. After 4 years, participants were classified into reverters and nonreverters, according to their cognitive function. Repeated measures analysis was performed after imputing missing values due to dropout. Nine modifiable risk factors at baseline were classified by latent class analysis. Subsequently, we performed binomial logistic regression analysis. The reversion rate of 789 participants was 30.9%. The possession patterns of modifiable risk factors among the elderly with MCI were classified into five patterns low risk, psychosocial, health behavior, educational, and smoking factors. According to logistic regression analysis, the low risk factors class was more likely to recover from MCI to normal cognitive than the other classes (p less then 0.
