In caseating granulomatous inflammation, a calcium cut-off value of 207 ppm yielded 85% specificity and 63% sensitivity. For iron, a cut-off value of 51 ppm had 74% specificity and 58% sensitivity.

High calcium and low iron levels in lymph tissue may be suggestive of caseating granulomatous inflammation and tuberculosis. In cases where differentiating between sarcoidosis and tuberculous lymphadenitis is difficult, performing tissue elemental analysis may provide additional supportive evidence for differential diagnosis.

Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) is a marker that widely used for prediction of response to immunotherapy. Dynamic alteration of PD-L1 expression are the major problems for reflection of the actual status of the PD-L1. So, we aimed to investigate the factors that may be associated with PD-L1 expression in lung cancer.

The patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer were enrolled, retrospectively. The patients were stratified according to PD-L1 expression level as ≥ 50% and < 50%.

Totally, 217 patients were enrolled. The clinicopathologic features were similar between two groups, except the amount of cigarette consumption. Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-lymphocyte ratio, and systemic immune-inflammmotry index were found significantly lower in PD-L1 ≥ 50% (p< 0.001, p= 0.006 and p= 0.003, respectively) and also negatively correlated with PD-L1 level (rho= -0.255, p< 0.001; rho= -0.17, p= 0.013; rho= - 0.185, p= 0.006, respectively).

According to the results of our study, peripheral blood parameters can be used to the prediction of the high PD-L1 expression and can be used for reflection of current PD-L1 expression.

First step is to evaluate the quality of the test in interpreting spirometries. International societies have defined the acceptability criteria for spirometric tests. With this study, it was aimed to evaluate spirometric tests in terms of compliance with international acceptability criteria and to determine error types.

Spirometric manoeuvres held at a tertiary chest diseases hospital were evaluated as to whether the acceptability criteria of "American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (ATS/ERS)" guideline were maintained or not. Errors determined were classified as unexplosive start of expiration, submaximal effort, cough, closure of glottis, missing closure of the loop ring and early termination of expiration.

Among tests evaluated (n= 510), 276 (54.1%) belonged to female and 234 (45.9%) to male subjects. Average age of subjects was 56.1 ± 15.0 years. It was noted that 318 (62.4%) of the tests met acceptability criteria, whereas 192 (37.6%) did not. The most frequently noted error type is formed.

Within this study it is the first time in our country that evaluation of spirometric studies has been made to see the rate of conformity with international standarts. Although it is thought that spirometric examinations are not technically appropriate in clinical practice throughout our country, there is no data in the literature. selleck chemicals Although the center where the study is conducted is a tertiary chest diseases hospital, the data obtained reveal that in spirometric evaluations, a substantially non-standard examination was performed.

Bronchiectasis is a chronic suppurative disease characterized by abnormal bronchial dilatation. The nature of bronchiectasis may have negative impact on psychological status, however it is poorly studied in relation to clinical indices, particularly the severity of disease. Primary aim of this study is to detect depression and anxiety in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis and to evaluate its relationship with disease severity indexes.

Ninety (male/female= 37/53; median age 45 years) stable non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectatic adult patients were enrolled into this study. Dyspnea scores, number of exacerbations and hospital admissions within the last year, body-mass index, pulmonary function tests, sputum cultures, bronchiectasis disease severity indexes (BSI and FACED) were assessed. Anxiety and depression were evaluated by using the Turkish version of the hospital anxiety and depression scale questionaire.

Anxiety was diagnosed in 30% of patients and depression was diagnosed in 41% of the psis bronchiectasis have an increased risk for depression and anxiety. Duration of disease and higher exacerbation rate are related with psychological status and indexes increased with longer duration of disease. Early detection and taking the necessary measures to improve the psychological state is necessary for the overall management of these patients.

The aim of the present study is to investigate the diagnostic value of the CD4+, CD8+ and CD103+ lymphocyte sub-groups in mediastinal lymph nodes, as an adjunctive marker in sarcoidosis.

The present study is a single-center, prospective cohort study designed in a reference center for chest diseases. Forty-six patients who underwent endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)-guided mediastinal lymph node sampling with a preliminary diagnosis of sarcoidosis were enrolled. The different lymphocyte subgroups were counted by flow cytomeytry in lymph node biopsy samples. Based on the final diagnosis, subjects were divided into two groups sarcoidosis and non-sarcoidosis. Lymphocyte subset analysis were compared between the groups.

The final diagnoses were sarcoidosis in 31 (67%) and non-sarcoidosis in 15 patients (33%). The total cell counts, lymphocyte ratios, CD8+ T lymphocyte ratios and CD4/CD8 ratios were similar in both groups (p> 0.05). CD4+ T lymphocyte rates were higher in patients with sarcoidosis (p= 0.017).
