campestris and the evolution of nsRNA viruses.In this study, the chemical and algicidal properties of the newly synthesized compound (2) were evaluated and its algal oxidative effects were determined in Arthrospira platensis and Chlorella vulgaris. First, we have reported on the synthesis and characterization of highly water-soluble copper (II) phthalocyanine (2), containing sodium 2-mercaptoethanesulfonate (2) substituents at the peripheral positions. Some spectroscopic techniques were used to characterize the new synthesized compound (2). In terms of biological properties, C. vulgaris were more tolerance to compound (2) than A. platensis depending to growth parameters. When SOD (Superoxide dismutase) activity significantly increased at 0.25 ppb and 1.5 ppb concentrations in A. platensis cultures, it increased at 6 ppb concentration in C. vulgaris cultures. GR (Glutathione reductase) activity decreased at 1 ppb and 1.5 ppb concentrations while APX (Ascorbate peroxidase) activity did not show a significant change at any concentrations in A. platensis cultures. GR activity showed a significant increase at 6 ppb concentration, while APX activity increased at all concentrations compared to control in C. vulgaris cultures. MDA (malondialdehyde) and H2O2 content decreased at 1 and 1.5 ppb concentrations but there were significant increases in the proline content at all concentrations compared to the control in A. platensis. MDA, H2O2 and free proline contents showed a significant increase at 0.5 ppb concentration in C. vulgaris. In conclusion, compound (2) have algicidal effects, and also it causes to oxidative stress in these organisms.

This study was to evaluate the occupational health risks of infection from Gram-negative bacteria and Staphylococcus aureus bioaerosols to temporary entrants and staffs equipped with various grade personal protection equipment (PPE) related to wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).

This study determined the emission concentrations of Gram-negative bacteria and Staphylococcus aureus bioaerosols from two WWTPs under various aeration modes. Then, a strict quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) was performed on several exposure scenarios associated with occupational health risks of temporary entrants (researchers, visitors, and inspectors) and staffs (field engineer and laboratory technician).

Although the bioaerosol concentrations were generally regarded as safe according to existing standards, these bioaerosols' health risks were still unacceptable. The microbial bioaerosols posed considerable infection health risks in WWTPs. These risks were generally above the WHO and US EPA benchmarks. The health risks of females were always smaller than those of male of grown-up age group. Staffs that had been exposed to bioaerosols for a long time were found to have higher health risks compared with temporary entrants. In addition, field engineers equipped with PPE rendered low health risks, thus revealing that wearing PPE could effectively reduce the occupational health risks.

This study provided novel data and enriched the knowledge of microbial bioaerosol emission's health risks from various aeration modes in WWTPs. Management decisions could be executed by authorities on the basis of the results of QMRA for field engineers equipped with PPE to reduce the related occupational health risks.

Management decisions could be executed by authorities on the basis of the results of QMRA for field engineers equipped with PPE to reduce the related occupational health risks.Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) are an exciting option for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) but little is known about their safety and tolerability in patients with existing respiratory disorders. The objective was to compare pulmonary safety of JAKi versus rituximab in patients with concurrent interstitial lung disease (ILD) or bronchiectasis. Apoptosis inhibitor We performed a retrospective electronic patient record review of patients with known ILD or bronchiectasis commencing JAKi or rituximab for the treatment of RA. Patients initiating treatment from January 2016 to February 2020 were included. Respiratory events (hospitalization or death from a respiratory cause) were compared using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. We analysed patients who received JAKi (n = 28) and rituximab (n = 19) for a mean (SD) of 1.1 (0.62) and 2.14 (1) years respectively. Patients were predominantly female (68%), anti-CCP antibody positive (94%) and non-smoking (89%) with a median (IQR) percentage predicted FVC at baseline of 100% (82-115%) and percentage predicted TLCO of 62% (54.5-68%). Respiratory events occurred in five patients treated with JAKi (18%; 5 hospitalizations, 2 deaths) and in four patients treated with rituximab (21%; 3 hospitalizations, 1 death). Respiratory event rates did not differ between groups (Cox-regression proportional hazard ratio = 1.38, 95% CI 0.36-5.28; p = 0.64). In this retrospective study, JAKi for the treatment of RA with existing ILD or bronchiectasis did not increase the rate of hospitalization or death due to respiratory causes compared to those treated with rituximab. JAK inhibition may provide a relatively safe option for RA in such patients.

Pilonidal disease (PD) is a common condition of the sacrococcygeal region leading to inflammation and abscess formation. PD is a topic of renewed interest due to the lack of satisfactory management options. Minimally invasive techniques have recently been investigated, with promising results in adult and pediatric populations. Our technique, the "EPIC procedure," Endoscopic-assisted Pilonidal Irrigation and Cleaning, involves removal of hair under direct visualization using a small endoscope while flushing saline through the cavity via an angiocatheter. We aim to show that the EPIC procedure is a safe and effective operation for the treatment of pilonidal disease in the pediatric population.

We performed a retrospective chart review including 20 consecutive patients. All had a primary sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus; all underwent the EPIC procedure. Post-operative care instructions included daily bathing and weekly depilatory application. We evaluated gender, age, weight, disease severity, operative duration, recurrence of PD, and other complications.
