Convenience

A built-in microwave oven combo can save space on your kitchen counters and give a stylish design to your space. Since it functions as a microwave in addition to a traditional oven, you can heat up leftovers, frozen foods and meals that are pre-packaged in one appliance. It removes the necessity of separate countertop appliances or large wall ovens. A microwave-microwave combination can be a great option for those who want to modernize your kitchen without having to undergo any major renovation projects.

Microwave ovens are available in different styles to suit your kitchen's decor. Some have a left-to-right swing-out door, whereas others have a drop-down design that opens in the same manner as an ordinary oven. You can also find microwave ovens with the drawer design that opens in the same way as an open cabinet. The microwave drawers can be easily accessible and are perfect for small space.

Combination microwaves also have various features that can simplify meal preparation and make it more efficient. For instance, certain models come with a sensor steam cycle that automatically adjusts the time and temperature of your food to ensure that you get perfectly steamed veggies and fish. Other features include a broil feature that allows you to quickly melt cheese or cook your favorite food and Crispwave(tm) technology that can grill or bake food and make it crisp.

When choosing a microwave combination, you should consider how often you'll use each function. If you'll be using the oven more frequently than the microwave, you may be better off buying an oven that doubles as a wall. A combo oven has less capacity than an oven that is a standalone unit.

Once you've selected the best microwave and oven combination for your requirements, you need to consider the installation. Over-the-range models are positioned over your cooktop or stove and connected to the power outlet. Built-in microwaves are installed on walls or cabinets in your kitchen. Certain models have trim kits that match your new microwave to your existing cabinets.

Energy Efficiency

Built-in microwave oven combos are a great option for those with smaller kitchens in their house or apartment. They can save the space that would be taken up by separate appliances. They can also cut down on energy usage. They are more energy efficient than traditional wall-mounted ovens and provide a more efficient way to cook. They can also be used to cook both hot and cold dishes, eliminating the necessity for additional appliances like toasters or warming plates.

In evaluating the possibility of amending energy conservation standards, DOE conducts several analyses which include market and technology assessment screening analysis, engineering analysis, and a national impact analysis (NIA). In this SNOPR DOE will utilize its existing engineering analysis on microwave ovens to determine what level of efficiency improvement is possible for this product category.

In the engineering analysis, DOE will compare the design parameters of a microwave with an energy performance set of objectives. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.

As part of the NIA, DOE will evaluate the effects on consumers for each product class including lifecycle cost savings and simple payback period ("PBP"). DOE will use the Government Regulatory Impact Model, with an adaptation for ovens that can be microwaved, to calculate the industry's net present value (NPV).

DOE will also evaluate the impact on manufacturers and will employ an altered industry cash flow model adapted to this product type in order to estimate manufacturing NPV. In addition, DOE will consider the potential impact on small-business manufacturers as well as other subgroups of manufacturers to identify any that could be affected in a different way by these proposals.

DOE will also examine whether the test procedure for microwave ovens requires to be updated in order to include active mode power consumption and an integrated energy use measure. Currently, the test procedures only address the use of standby mode power.

Design

Wall ovens are based on evenly circulating hot air while microwaves make use of waves to cause the water molecules in food to vibrate and produce heat. Combination wall ovens combine two different appliances into a single unit that helps save kitchen space and offers a sleek, modern aesthetic. However, it is important to consider your goals and budget before deciding to purchase a combination wall oven. Some of the combination ovens we evaluated have design or performance issues.
