Apoptosis increased significantly in MDS cells treated with higher doses of 5-Aza while cell viability decreased significantly.

SHP-1 hypermethylation was associated with poor prognosis in HR patients with MDS, suggesting it could be used as a prognostic indicator.

The purpose of this study is to examine student perceptions of accomplishment among 6 subdomains of Center for Advancement of Pharmacy Education (CAPE) Domain 3 "Approach to Practice and Care" outcomes in Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) across distinct geographical regions.

An 18-item electronic survey was distributed to 88 student pharmacists at a private university completing APPEs in 5 distinct regions and 2 concentrated learning experiences during their penultimate rotation. The survey assessed whether students had at least 1 opportunity to achieve Domain 3 outcomes. Students were prompted to report a percentage of perceived successful accomplishment of outcomes if they stated they had at least 1 opportunity for achievement.

Survey response rate was 52% (n = 46). Respondents reported a median accomplishment of at least 85% for each question. For 2 questions, respondents reported a median accomplishment of 99%. Students perceived successful accomplishment for most of the questions related to communication outcomes, while the lowest completion percentages were noted in outcomes related to patient advocacy (85%) and problem solving (88%). Student perceptions of accomplishment among the 6 subdomains were similar across regions and concentrated learning experiences.

Students felt confident in accomplishing the outcomes associated with CAPE Domain 3. Regional assignments did not impact student perceptions of outcome accomplishment. Preceptors may play a pivotal role in providing students with opportunities to further polish their skills and increase confidence, specifically in the areas of patient advocacy and problem solving.

To adopt a computer-based protocol to assess grip fatigability in patients with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis to provide detection of subtle motor involvement identifying those patients most at risk for future decline.

Pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis patients were recruited during routine outpatient visits to complete a grip assessment and compared to a group of healthy age- and sex-matched controls. All participants completed a computer-based measurement of standard maximal grip strength and repetitive and sustained grip performance measured by dynamic and static fatigue indices.

A total of 38 patients with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis and 24 healthy controls completed the grip protocol (right-hand dominant). There were no significant group differences in maximal grip strength bilaterally (right 21.8 vs 19.9 kg,

= .25; left 20.4 vs 18.7 kg,

= .33), although males with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis were significantly less strong than healthy controls (right 26.53 vs 21.23 kg,

= .009; left; 25.13 vs 19.63 kg,

= .003). Both dynamic and static fatigue indices were significantly higher bilaterally in pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis compared with healthy control participants (left-hand dynamic fatigue index 18.6% vs 26.7%,

= .003; right-hand static fatigue index 28.3% vs 41.3%,

< .001; left-hand static fatigue index 31.9% vs 42.6%,

< .001).

Brief repeatable grip assessment including measures of dynamic and sustained static output can be a sensitive indicator of upper extremity motor involvement in pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis, potentially identifying those in need of intervention to prevent future disability.

The pharmacy profession has experienced dramatic shifts in scopes of practice, services offered, and employment opportunities over the last couple decades. At the same time, the number of students graduating from pharmacy school each year has steadily increased. The combined effect of these factors is a tightening labor market. Identification of potential knowledge and skill deficits in the applicant pool will create opportunity for pharmacists to tailor their personal development and educators to design content to address contemporary needs.

To determine if the current pharmacist pool meets employment needs in Arizona with respect to specific skills and knowledge.

In a cross-sectional survey design, Arizona licensed pharmacists were asked to provide their perspective of the knowledge and skills of candidates for pharmacist positions within 8 skill & knowledge domains. Descriptive statistics were used for respondents' characteristics. A multivariate logistic regression was used for association betweneeds.

Dofetilide is an antiarrhythmic medication that has the potential to cause life threatening arrhythmias, such as Torsade de pointes. The 2014 ACC/AHA/HRS guidelines for the management of patients with atrial fibrillation state that patients need to meet certain criteria to be initiated on dofetilide. Patients who are not initiated on this therapy according to the guideline criteria are likely to be at higher risk of adverse reactions.

This is a single center, retrospective chart review of patients who were initiated on dofetilide from July 2016-December 2019. Patients included in the study were initiated on dofetilide as a new antiarrhythmic and monitored inpatient for 3 days. The primary outcome was a composite of incidence of cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, cardiac death, and cardiac related hospital readmission.

There were 224 patients included in the analysis 190 patients who were initiated on dofetilide inappropriately and 34 that were initiated appropriately. The primary outcome (composite of cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, cardiac death, and hospital readmission) was statistically significant with more patients experiencing an outcome in the group initiated inappropriately.
