Adolescents' responses to negative social experiences can be influenced by parenting behaviors. This includes how parents react to their child's expression of emotions, an aspect of parenting referred to as emotion socialization. Emotion socialization may intersect with cultural values, particularly collectivism, a socially-relevant attitude that emphasizes the importance of interpersonal relationships. Examination of a neural measure called the feedback-related negativity (FRN), thought to reflect the degree to which feedback is experienced as aversive, could help elucidate neural contributions to and consequences of the role of collectivism in such family dynamics. Thus, this study examined whether adolescents' endorsement of collectivism moderated the association of parents' dismissive emotion socialization responses (called override responses) and FRN following peer rejection. A community sample of 83 Latinx (n = 32), Asian American (n = 20), and non-Latinx White (n = 31) adolescents ages 13-17 completed a computerized peer feedback task while continuous electroencephalogram was recorded. Their parents completed a battery of self-report questionnaires. Regression analyses demonstrated that adolescents' endorsement of collectivism moderated the association of override responses and FRN following peer rejection, such that FRN was enhanced as override responses increased for adolescents endorsing low and moderate levels of collectivism. Results suggest that there is cultural variation in the association of the emotion socialization strategy of override and adolescents' neural responses to socially-salient events. Findings have implications for parenting interventions designed to enhance adolescents' emotion regulation abilities. This study examined whether pre-disaster indicators of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity moderated the relation between degree of disaster exposure from an EF-4 tornado and changes in the externalizing and internalizing behavior problems of children at-risk for aggression. Participants included 188 children in 4th-6th grades (65% male; 78% African American; ages 9-13) and their parents from predominantly low-income households who were participating in a prevention study when the tornado occurred in 2011. Fourth-grade children who exhibited elevated levels of aggressive behavior were recruited in three annual cohorts. Parent-rated externalizing and internalizing problems were assessed prior to the tornado (Wave 1; W1), and at 4-12 months (W2), 16-24 months (W3), 42-28 months (W4) and 56-60 months (W5) post-tornado. click here Children's pre-tornado Skin Conductance Level (SCL) reactivity and Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) withdrawal were assessed at W1 using SCL and RSA measured during resting baseline and during the first 5 min of the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT). Children and parents reported their exposure to tornado-related trauma and disruptions at Wave 3. Children displayed less reduction in externalizing problems if there had been higher child- or parent-reported tornado exposure and less RSA withdrawal, or if they had lower parent-reported TORTE and less SCL reactivity or lower SCL baseline. Highlighting the importance of children's pre-disaster arousal, higher levels of disaster exposure negatively affected children's level of improvement in externalizing problems when children had less vagal withdrawal, and when tornado exposure disrupted the protective effects of higher SCL reactivity and higher SCL baseline. The presence of glycogen in the brown adipose tissue (BAT) has been described 60 years ago. However, the role of this energetic storage in brown adipocytes has been long time underestimated. We have recently shown that during brown adipocyte differentiation in the embryo, glycogen accumulates and is degraded by glycophagy, a dynamic essential for lipid droplets biogenesis. Recent studies have shown that the storage and degradation of triglycerides in BAT are not essential for the activation of BAT in response to cold exposure in adults, and that glycogen can compensate for their absence. In this review, we report the recent advances related to the importance of glycogen in brown adipocytes.
Breast conservation therapy (BCT) is well established for the management of primary operable breast cancer, with oncologic outcomes comparable to those of mastectomy. It remains unclear whether re-conservation therapy (RCT) is suitable for those patients who develop ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR), for whom mastectomy is generally recommended.
We identified women who underwent BCT for invasive or ductal carcinoma in situ and developed IBTR as a first event, comparing the pattern of subsequent events and survival for those treated by RCT versus mastectomy.
Of 16,968 patents who had BCT, 322 (1.9%) developed an isolated IBTR as a first event between 1999 and 2019. 130 (40%) had RCT and 192 (60%) mastectomy. Compared to mastectomy, the RCT patients were older (66 vs 53, < 0.001), had a longer disease-free interval (DFI 5.8 vs 2.7years (p < 0.001)), were less likely to have received RT (p < 0.001), endocrine therapy (ET) (p < 0.005) or combined RT/ET (< 0.001) as initial treatment, but the characteristics of their initial primary cancers and of their IBTR were comparable. At a median follow-up of 10.7years following initial BCT and 6.5years following IBTR, there were no differences in BCSS or OS between RCT and mastectomy.
For BCT patients who developed IBTR as a first event, we observed comparable BCSS and OS from time of initial treatment and from time of IBTR, whether treated by RCT or mastectomy. These results support wider consideration of RCT in the management of IBTR, especially in the setting of older age and longer DFI.

Depending on the taken dose, it can lead to stimulant effects, euphoria, visual and auditory hallucinations, along with auditory, olfactory, and gustatory synesthesia. In addition to its historical usage in spiritual rituals of African tribes, these days iboga extract presents a prohibited, alternative drug widely used as a part of addiction treatment. Ibogaine used in opioid withdrawal is associated with serious side effects and sudden deaths. Besides its main use as an anti-addiction medication in alternative medicine, in moderate doses (from 100mg to 1g) ibogaine most commonly causes a "trance-like state".In this paper, we report the case of a heroin addict who died suddenly 5-12 hours after oral ingestion of powder labeled Tabernanthe iboga which had been bought online and used in the process of detoxification during an addiction treatment. The man was found dead in a rented apartment, where he was undergoing the addiction treatment.
