Gastrointestinal schwannoma is not a common type of tumor, and lesions originating from the appendix are extremely rare. Herein, we report a patient with appendiceal schwannoma characterized by lymph node swelling.
A 67-year-old male patient who had diabetes complained of weight loss. A computed tomography scan revealed a mass in the right side of the pelvic cavity. Moreover, a contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan showed perilesional lymph node swelling measuring up to 28 mm. A low-intensity mass was observed on T1-weighted imaging, heterogeneous high-intensity mass on T2-weighted imaging, and restricted diffusion on diffusion-weighted imaging. Based on a preoperative examination, a differential diagnosis of either appendiceal schwannoma, carcinoid, or gastrointestinal stromal tumor was considered. During surgery, a large appendiceal mass and multiple swollen perilesional lymph nodes were observed. Therefore, ileocecal resection and D3 lymph node disseppendiceal schwannoma.Zinner syndrome is a rare congenital abnormality defined by a clinical triad of unilateral renal agenesis, ipsilateral seminal vesicle cyst, and ipsilateral ejaculatory duct obstruction. Most patients are asymptomatic, but if the cystic dilatation of the seminal vesicle becomes significant, it can result in urinary symptoms such as dysuria and urinary retention. This rare developmental anomaly related to the mesonephric duct can also present with other abnormalities. Here, we report our experience of Zinner syndrome with bladder outlet obstruction and an ectopic ureter remnant.
Type 2 diabetes is a part of metabolic syndrome associated with a higher risk of vascular complications. Diabetes is characterized by changes in platelet morphology, function, and platelet hyperactivity so, it's considered a prothrombotic condition. Morbidity and mortality in people with type 2 diabetes-related to micro and macrovascular complications. Novel biomarkers are needed to identify and treat people at higher risk.
The main objective of this controlled cross-sectional study was to evaluate Platelet volume indices (PVI) in subjects with type 2 diabetes with and without complications in comparison to subjects without diabetes.
Hundred and thirty-five subjects aged from 35 to 60 years were subdivided into 3 groups. Group A includes 55 subjects with type 2 diabetes with complications. Group B includes 45 subjects with type 2 diabetes without complications. Group C includes 35 normal healthy subjects. Detailed clinical history was taken. Also, PVI, fasting blood glucose (FBG), hemoglobin A1c, and creatinine were obtained.
Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), Platelet Distribution Width (PDW), Plateletcrit (PCT), and Platelet large cell ratio (P-LCR) were significantly higher among subjects with retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy than other subjects with diabetes who didn't develop complications (P<0.001). At cutoff value > 11.9 fL, MPV have diagnostic sensitivity 80% and specificity 97.8%. Whereas PDW >16.9fL has a sensitivity of 74.5% and specificity of 100% for diabetic microvascular complications (retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy).
MPV and PDW may be considered as possible biomarkers for the early detection of diabetic microvascular complications.

The previous decade has observed a rapid advancement in PC therapies that was evident from the number of FDA approvals during this phase. Androgen deprivation therapies (ADT) have traditionally remained a mainstay for the management of PCs, but the past decade has experienced the emergence of newer classes of drugs that can be used with or without the administration of ADT. FDA approved poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi), such as olaparib and rucaparib, after successful clinical trials against gene-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Furthermore, drugs like apalutamide, darolutamide, and enzalutamide with an androgen-targeted mechanism of action have manifested superior results in non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC), metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC), and metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), respectively, with or without previously administered docetaxel. Relugolix, an oral gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist, and a combination of abiraterone acetate plus prednisone were also approved by FDA after a successful trial in advanced PC and mCRPC, respectively. This review aims to analyze the FDA-approved agents in PC during the last decade and provide a summary of their clinical trials. It also presents an overview of the ongoing progress of prospective molecules still under trial.Neurological disorders like Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), stroke, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease (HD), epilepsy, traumatic brain injury (TBI), depression and anxiety are responsible for thousands of deaths worldwide every year. With the increase in life expectancy, there has been a rise in the prevalence of these disorders. Age is one of the major risk factors for these neurological disorders and with the aged population is set to rise to 1.25 billion by 2050. There is a growing concern to look for new therapeutic molecules to treat age-related diseases. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is a molecule obtained from a number of botanical sources such as the bark of conifer trees as well as propolis which is extracted from beehives. Though CAPE remains relatively unexplored in human trials, it possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimitogenic and anti-cancer activities as shown by preclinical studies. Apart from this, it also exhibits tremendous potential for the treatment of neurological disorders through modulation of multiple molecular pathways and attenuation of behavioural deficits. In the present article, we have reviewed the therapeutic potential of CAPE and its mechanisms in the treatment of neurological disorders.
