.This case presents the utility of ultrasound examination in diagnostics, providing accurate therapy and follow-up of entrapment syndrome of the ulnar nerve, caused by heterotopic ossification. The heterotopic ossifications were in this case presumably linked to a long-term working with a vibration sander..N/A..In contrast to computed tomography, ultrasound can be performed without radiation exposure, repeatedly performed by the patients' bedside. Hence, in this case series, we describe the evaluation of complications including hematoma, superficialsurgical site infection, mediastinitis, and pseudoaneurysm associated mediastinitis using ultrasound in pediatric patients after cardiovascular surgery. To our knowledge, no previous reports have evaluated such complications using ultrasound. Ultrasound may be useful for the early diagnosis of these complications, and in the selection of subsequent examinations such as computed tomography, resulting in the early initiation of intervention.Lymphadenopathy is frequently observed in immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease in some cases, and such cases are known as IgG4-related lymphadenopathy. The ultrasonography findings associated with IgG4-related lymphadenopathy have not been described in previous reports. Herein, we describe ultrasonography findings in two cases of IgG4-related lymphadenopathy in conjunction with histopathological findings. Combined ultrasound scanning with Doppler examination accurately represented the specific histopathological features of IgG4-related lymphadenopathy.Abdominal ultrasound (US) performed as a "primary imaging procedure" is an important diagnostic tool in gastroenterol-ogy. Expanding the routine investigation to the lower thoracic region might sometimes accelerate the diagnosis in inconclusive manifestations such as pulmonary pathology.US is a valuable tool in evaluating patients with breathing difficulties, chest pain, hypoxia, or chest trauma. selleckchem This paper presents the particular situation of a patient hospitalized in the gastroenterology depart-ment, where the US identified significant pulmonary alterations and changed the final diagnosis from a gastrointestinal disease to pleuro-pulmonary tuberculosis. A brief review of literature is also included, in relation to chest US.AIMS Patients with hip fracture are often not given adequate analgesia in the Emergency Department. Ultrasound guided femoral nerve block is an effective option but it is not commonly used due to limited experience, inadequate training and infrequent clinical exposure. We aimed to develop a workshop to bridge the current gap in the training of ultrasound guided femoral nerve block. MATERIAL AND METHODS A 3-hour workshop was developed in accordance to guidelines for education and training in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. The components included an online learning module for pre-reading, as well as team-based learning and simulation practice during the session. Evaluation of the participants was performed and feedbackof the course was collected. RESULTS The workshop was conducted successfully for a total of 30 participants. All participants achieved the minimum standard required. Across all domains, the mean scores for the workshop were more than 4.7 out of 5 on the Likert scale. Participants were satisfied with the workshop and would recommend it to a colleague. CONCLUSION This workshop met its educational objectives and various principles of medical education were used effectively in the delivery of the content. Further research is necessary to demonstrate the impact of this educational effort on clinical practice and patient outcomes.Rhabdomyolysis is the process of striated muscle cell lysis, during which proteins and microelements such as myoglobin are released into the bloodstream. It is important to diagnose rhabdomyolysis as soon as possible and start the treatment according to severity, as it is a state that significantly increases the mortality of the patients. The current gold standard of rhabdomyolysis diagnosis is the creatine kinase plasma concentration test, but it can be also diagnosed with imaging techniques, such as ultrasound (US). This review aims to gather previously published information regarding sonographic appearance of rhabdomyolysis. We searched through PubMed and ScienceDirect databases for studies using designed queries. After the selection process we were left with 13 studies containing a description of US appearance of rhabdomyolysis confirmed with a CK plasma level test. Findings described in the majority of the cases were muscle thickening, ground glass opacity, traits of edema and anechoic areas. Other than these, there were several less often reported findings. As a conclusion, rhabdomyolysis seems to have its own US appearance, but for now it cannot be precisely specified and needs further research for clarification.AIMS To provide information on the current evidence regarding the diagnostic performance of ultrasound and MRI for assessing parametrial involvement in cervical cancer using the histological report as the reference standard. MATERIAL AND METHODS Meta-analysis. An extensive search of papers comparing ultrasound and MRI in assessing parametrial infiltration in cervical cancer using pathologic analysis as a reference standard was performed in Medline (Pubmed) and Web of Science from January 1990 to September 2019. Quality was assessed using the QUADAS-2 tool. RESULTS Our extended search identified 205 citations but after exclusions we finally included 9 articles in the meta-analysis. The risk of bias for most studies was low for four domains were assessed in QUADAS-2. Overall, for ultrasound pooled estimated sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing parametrial infiltration was 78% (95% confidence interval [CI]48%-93%) and 96% (95% CI=89%-99%), respectively. For MRI these figures were 68% (95% CI=54%-80%) and 91% (95% CI=84%-95%), respectively. No statistical differences were found when comparing both methods (p=0.548). Heterogeneity was low/moderate for MRI and high for ultrasound. CONCLUSION Ultrasound and MRI have similar diagnostic performance for detecting parametrial infiltration in women with cervical cancer. This might have relevance from the clinical point of view, since ultrasound is cheaper than MRI.
