Studying Alzheimer's disease with the fluctuating environmental, individual, and cultural factors in pertinence to the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM-5) requires information, awareness, and understanding of the disease. Studies have calibrated sociocultural factors to be imperative in the expression of functional symptomology of Alzheimer's disease. Pakistan as a sociocentric, predominantly Muslim country, calls for such efforts. The current research was conducted to study the functional symptomology and experiences of Alzheimer's disease. A qualitative approach was adopted in which in-depth interviews of three dyads of patients with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers (N = 6) were conducted. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was applied to acquire the thematic analysis of data. Results showed sociocentricism as a forefront factor. Cognition, behavior, and emotions were found to be functionally expressed by religion, unawareness, respect of older people, stigmatization, and isolation within family dynamics. The study could be an instigator for further culture-oriented assessment and management providing services. The aquifer flowing beneath the Yucatan Peninsula, México, is one of the largest in the world and is in direct contact with the surface through "cenotes" (sinkholes) that have been documented to be contaminated with various classes of pollutants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the environmental status of the Great Mayan Aquifer through a review of data published on pollution of the cenotes. Approximately 1000 known georeferenced cenotes on the Yucatan Peninsula were geographically located. A map was generated using the geographic information system software. Smad pathway High-resolution satellite images were processed to complement the "QuickMap Services" and the formatting service of the Environmental Systems Research Institute. From the literature, 173 cenotes were identified as being sampled for various pollutants, and of these, one or more classes of pollutants were detected in 160 (i.e., greater than 92%) of the cenotes. Pollutants reported to be present included bacteria and viruses of human origin, fecal sterols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), pesticides, pharmaceuticals, illicit drugs and personal care products. From the review of the literature, only 13 cenotes were reported to be free of the target pollutants. From this study, it can be concluded that the aquifer system with the Yucatan Peninsula is vulnerable to contamination from pollutants originating from wastewater, as well as surface runoff and infiltration from urban and agricultural lands.Pannexin 3 (PANX3) is a member of the pannexin family of single membrane channel-forming glycoproteins. Originally thought to have a limited localization in cartilage, bone, and skin, PANX3 has now been detected in a variety of other tissues including skeletal muscle, mammary glands, the male reproductive tract, the cochlea, blood vessels, small intestines, teeth, and the vomeronasal organ. In many cell types of the musculoskeletal system, such as osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and odontoblasts, PANX3 has been shown to regulate the balance of proliferation and differentiation. PANX3 can be induced during progenitor cell differentiation, functioning at the cell surface as a conduit for ATP and/or in the endoplasmic reticulum as a calcium leak channel. Evidence in osteoblasts and monocytes also highlight a role for PANX3 in purinergic signalling through its function as an ATP release channel. PANX3 is critical in the development and ageing of bone and cartilage, with its levels temporally regulated in other tissues such as skeletal muscle, skin, and the cochlea. In diseases such as osteoarthritis and intervertebral disc degeneration, PANX3 can have either protective or detrimental roles depending on if the disease is age-related or injury-induced. This review will discuss PANX3 function in tissue growth and regeneration, its role in cellular differentiation, and how it becomes dysregulated in disease conditions such as obesity, Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, osteosarcoma, and non-melanoma skin cancer, where most of the findings on PANX3 function can be attributed to the characterization of Panx3 KO mouse models.A facial pore is an empty funnel-shaped structure filled with cornified cylindrical plugs that can be cosmetically bothersome to some patients. In the previous report, the new unipolar radiofrequency (RF) device with a vacuum showed excellent skin tightening and patient satisfaction with improved pores. This study aims to confirm the treatment's efficacy with the new unipolar RF device on facial dilated pores by measuring quantitative sebum production differences and doing a histologic examination of pore size. Twelve patients who visited the dermatologic clinic without other underlying inflammatory facial skin diseases were included, regardless of the patient's age or sex. All patients received five successive treatments at 2-week intervals. We assessed all changes in sebum production levels, melanin index, erythema index before and after treatment, along with overall improvement (reduction of pore size, skin tone, skin texture, and skin laxity). In the five patients who agreed in advance, a biopsy of the pore lesion was taken before and 1 month after the last treatment with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, Masson's trichrome (M-T) staining, and Victoria blue staining. We observed a significant reduction of sebum production and melanin index after using the new unipolar RF device with a vacuum (sebum production, p = 0.011; MI, p = 0.004). In evaluating patient satisfaction for four categories, the patients showed a moderate to the excellent improvement of more than 50% in their condition except for skin tones. The average pore size decreased by 41.7% in the histological examination, from 64.98 to 37.86 μm. Additionally, we observed an overall decreased sebaceous gland in the dermis and the proliferation of dermal collagen fiber. The number of elastic bundles in the D-E junction was increased after treatment. The nonablative unipolar RF devices with a vacuum can improve dilated pores with a dual mechanism (collagen regeneration and reduction of sebum production), with much less pain than other RF devices.
