Behavior modeling is an essential cognitive ability that underlies many aspects of human and animal social behavior (Watson in Psychol Rev 20158, 1913), and an ability we would like to endow robots. Most studies of machine behavior modelling, however, rely on symbolic or selected parametric sensory inputs and built-in knowledge relevant to a given task. Here, we propose that an observer can model the behavior of an actor through visual processing alone, without any prior symbolic information and assumptions about relevant inputs. To test this hypothesis, we designed a non-verbal non-symbolic robotic experiment in which an observer must visualize future plans of an actor robot, based only on an image depicting the initial scene of the actor robot. We found that an AI-observer is able to visualize the future plans of the actor with 98.5% success across four different activities, even when the activity is not known a-priori. We hypothesize that such visual behavior modeling is an essential cognitive ability that will allow machines to understand and coordinate with surrounding agents, while sidestepping the notorious symbol grounding problem. Through a false-belief test, we suggest that this approach may be a precursor to Theory of Mind, one of the distinguishing hallmarks of primate social cognition. We employed a hospital-based Internet of Things (IoT) platform to validate the role of real-time activities of daily living (ADL) measurement as a digital biomarker for cognitive impairment in a hospital setting. Observational study. 12 patients with dementia, 11 patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and 15 cognitively normal older adults. The results of 13 experimental ADL tasks were categorized into success or fail. The total number of successful task and the average success proportion of each group was calculated. Time to complete the total tasks was also measured. Patients with dementia, patients with MCI, and cognitively normal older adults performed 13 experimental ADL tasks in a hospital setting. Significant differences in the average success rate of 13 tasks were found among groups. Dementia group showed the lowest success proportion (49.3%) compared with MCI group (78.3%) and normal group (97.4%). Correlation between classical ADL scales and the number of completed ADL tasks was statistically significant. In particular, instrumental ADL (I-ADL) had stronger relationship with the number of completed ADL tasks than Barthel's ADL (B-ADL). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/salvianolic-acid-b.html Dementia group required more time to accomplish the tasks when compared to MCI and normal groups. This study demonstrated that there is a clear relationship between the performance of experimental ADL tasks and the severity of cognitive impairment. The evaluation of ADLs involving the IoTs platform in an ecological setting allows accurate assessment and quantification of the patient's functional level.A series of stable and ready-to-use bioinks have been developed based on the xeno-free and tunable hydrogel (VitroGel) system. Cell laden scaffold fabrication with optimized polysaccharide-based inks demonstrated that Ink H4 and RGD modified Ink H4-RGD had excellent rheological properties. Both bioinks were printable with 25-40 kPa extrusion pressure, showed 90% cell viability, shear-thinning and rapid shear recovery properties making them feasible for extrusion bioprinting without UV curing or temperature adjustment. Ink H4-RGD showed printability between 20 and 37 °C and the scaffolds remained stable for 15 days at temperature of 37 °C. 3D printed non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patient derived xenograft cells (PDCs) showed rapid spheroid growth of size around 500 µm in diameter and tumor microenvironment formation within 7 days. IC50 values demonstrated higher resistance of 3D spheroids to docetaxel (DTX), doxorubicin (DOX) and erlotinib compared to 2D monolayers of NSCLC-PDX, wild type triple negative breast cancer (MDA-MB-231 WT) and lung adenocarcinoma (HCC-827) cells. Results of flow property, shape fidelity, scaffold stability and biocompatibility of H4-RGD suggest that this hydrogel could be considered for 3D cell bioprinting and also for in-vitro tumor microenvironment development for high throughput screening of various anti-cancer drugs.Blood contains hundreds of proteins, reflecting ongoing cellular processes and immune reactions. Infections with the blood-dwelling cardiopulmonary nematode Angiostrongylus vasorum in dogs manifest with a broad spectrum of clinical signs including respiratory distress, bleeding diathesis and neurological signs, and are associated with a perturbed blood protein profile in dogs. However, current knowledge does not completely explain the observed pathologies induced by A. vasorum infections, including bleeding disorders. Using sera from experimentally infected dogs, dog serum proteome was analysed by quantitative mass spectrometry methods over several time points before and after inoculation. Following computational analysis, we identified 139 up- and downregulated proteins after infection (log2 ratio cut-off ≥ 1.0; q-value ≤ 0.05). Among upregulated proteins were chitinase 3-like 1 and pulmonary surfactant-associated protein B (log2 fold-changes ≥ 5). Pathway enrichment revealed the complement (especially the lectin pathway) and coagulation cascades as significantly affected upon analysis of downregulated proteins. Among them were mannan-binding lectin serine peptidases, ficolin, and coagulation factor XIII-B. These results bring new elements towards understanding the underlying pathomechanisms of bleeding diatheses observed in some A. vasorum-infected dogs.Composites are gradually becoming an integral material for structural and manufacturing processes. Sisal fibre has the potential to be one of the leading reinforcement natural fibres, not only in Zimbabwe, but the world over for use in glass composites. This is mainly due to it being inexpensive, exhibiting a low density, high specific strength, a high stiffness to weight ratio, non-toxicity, its abundance in Zimbabwe and its renewability. With an aim of coming up with a composite for partition board applications in the construction industry, five samples of sisal-glass composite were prepared with varying sisal fibre content and different layering techniques. Sisal fibres were pre-treated with 20% NaOH to enhance their crosslinking with the resin and reduce the chemical impurities such as lignin and waxes. Mechanical (flexural test, hardness, and tensile strength) and physical tests (density and water absorption) were conducted to analyse the properties of the composite. The results showed that treated sisal fibres had a higher breaking tenacity of 33.
