The aim of this report was to review and highlight the indications and techniques of salivary gland engineering to counter hyposalivation. This report concludes that in the literature, numerous strategies have been suggested and discussed pertaining to the engineering of salivary gland, however, challenges remain in terms of its production and accurate function. Dedicated efforts are required from researchers all over the world to obtain the maximum benefits from salivary gland engineering techniques.An 11-year-old boy presented with pain in the right knee, intermittent reverse ischemia of the right foot and paraesthesia of the right toes. An angio-CT showed a false aneurysm of the right superior popliteal artery, and a solitary osteochondroma of the posterior aspect of the distal femur. Excision of the aneurysm and the osteochondroma was performed in two-stages. The patient was clinically well at 1-year follow up.Objective Fistulotomy remains the gold standard for the surgical treatment of simple anal fistula, but may cause fecal incontinence and a characteristic anal 'keyhole' deformity. Although seemingly trivial, keyhole deformity may lead to bothersome symptoms such as anal pruritus and fecal soiling. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of fistulectomy and primary sphincteroplasty (FIPS), a technique with immediate sphincter reconstruction, in the treatment of simple anal fistula and the prevention of keyhole deformity created by simple fistulotomy.Methods A retrospective study was performed on all consecutive patients who underwent FIPS for a simple anal fistula at our institution between January 2015 and August 2019. The primary outcome of the study was the rate of early postoperative wound dehiscence, which essentially transforms a FIPS into a simple fistulotomy and may lead to keyhole deformity. All patients received follow-up at regular intervals to evaluate fistula healing and the presence of keyhole deformity.Results FIPS was performed in 24 patients (median age 52.8 years). After a median follow-up time of 3.0 (2.0, 6.3) months, the overall healing rate was 95.8% (23/24 patients). Six (25%) patients experienced early postoperative wound dehiscence resulting in the development of a keyhole deformity. Five of them were symptomatic (mainly soiling). Keyhole deformity was diagnosed at a median time of 6.0 (3.8, 7.5) months postoperatively. The occurrence of early wound dehiscence and subsequent keyhole deformity was associated with a posteriorly located fistula (p = .02).Conclusion FIPS avoids the development of keyhole deformity in the majority of patients with simple anal fistula, but is less successful in posterior fistulas. Since FIPS is a very effective, fast and simple procedure, it should be considered a valid alternative for the treatment of every simple anal fistula.Subtilisin-like Pr1 proteases of insect-pathogenic fungi are a large family of extracellular cuticle-degrading enzymes that presumably determine a capability of hyphal invasion into insect haemocoel through normal cuticle infection, but remain poorly understood although often considered as virulence factors for genetic improvement of fungal potential against pests. Here, we report that not all of 11 Pr1 family members necessarily function in Beauveria bassiana, an ancient wide-spectrum pathogen evolved insect pathogenicity ~200 million years ago. These Pr1 proteases are phylogenetically similar to or distinct from 11 homologues (Pr1A-K) early named in Metarhizium anisopliae complex, a young entomopathogen lineage undergoing molecular evolution toward Pr1 diversification, and hence renamed Pr1A1/A2, Pr1B1-B3, Pr1C, Pr1F1-F4 and Pr1G respectively. Multiple analyses of all single gene-deleted and rescued mutants led to recognition of five conserved members (Pr1C, Pr1G, Pr1A2, Pr1B1 and Pr1B2) contributing significantly to the fungal pathogenicity to insect. The conserved Pr1 proteases were proven to function only in cuticle degradation, individually contribute 19-29% to virulence, but play no role in post-infection cellular events critical for fungal killing action. Six other Pr1 proteases were not functional at all in either cuticle degradation during host infection or virulence-related cellular events post-infection. Therefore, only the five conserved proteases are collectively required for, and hence mark evolution of, insect pathogenicity in B. bassiana. Peer-reviewed journal articles and dissertations were included if they measured both parent-to-child aggression and DA perpetration and/or victimization among adolescents (aged 12-18) or young adults (aged 18-29). Sixty-six records met inclusion criteria, yielding 370 unique effect sizes for the relation between parent-to-child aggression and DA across 94 unique samples. As hypothesized, there was a small-to-medium effect size between parent-to-child aggression and subsequent DA during both adolescence and young adulthood.
