The model plant species Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) has two nuclear-encoded plastid-targeted organelle RNA recognition motif (ORRM) proteins ORRM1 and ORRM6. In the orrm1 mutant, 21 plastid RNA editing sites were affected but none are essential to photosynthesis. In the orrm6 mutants, two plastid RNA editing sites were affected psbF-C77 and accD-C794. Because psbF encodes the β subunit of cytochrome b 559 in photosystem II, which is essential to photosynthesis, the orrm6 mutants were much smaller than the wild type. In addition, the orrm6 mutants had pale green leaves and reduced photosynthetic efficiency. To investigate the functional relationship between ORRM1 and ORRM6, we generated orrm1 orrm6 double homozygous mutants. Morphological and physiological analyses showed that the orrm1 orrm6 double mutants had a smaller plant size, reduced chlorophyll contents, and decreased photosynthetic efficiency, similar to the orrm6 single mutants. Although the orrm1 orrm6 double mutants adopted the phenotype of the orrm6 single mutants, the total number of plastid RNA editing sites affected in the orrm1 orrm6 double mutants was the sum of the sites affected in the orrm1 and orrm6 single mutants. These data suggest that ORRM1 and ORRM6 are in charge of distinct sets of plastid RNA editing sites and that simultaneous mutations in ORRM1 and ORRM6 genes do not cause additional reduction in editing extent at other plastid RNA editing sites. 2020 The Authors. In addition, more than half report experiencing high chronic stress. Thus, organizations such as the Plant Science Research Network have highlighted the need to prioritize trainee well-being. This has led to a search for strategies to introduce this cultural change into scientific training. However, for faculty who do not have experience with this topic area, there are few readily available resources from which to draw. In this paper, we describe how two graduate groups, one focused on plant biology and the other on genomics and genetics approached this challenge together by introducing a course on mental and emotional well-being to their incoming first-year graduate students. We describe the research on workplace mental and emotional well-being and disability prevention which served as the basis for the course content. We review the course curriculum, student reflections about what they learned, and implications for future classes. © 2020 The Authors. First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is Canada's first province-wide, Indigenous-led health authority and delivers services in a community-driven manner. FNHA collaborated with First Nations to implement a Community Champion model, whereby each Nation could identify an individual who worked in food programming to attend a train-the-trainer workshop on safe food preservation methods. The Champions then took this knowledge, along with provided resources, to lead canning workshops in their home communities. Throughout the first year, a community of practice was nurtured, and a gathering of this community was held at the end of the first year. Nations were able to meet food safety considerations through interactive learning, and access to traditional Indigenous foods was strengthened. The Community Champion model supports capacity building and creates a community of practice. Owing to the relatively small sample size of AIs, the population is rarely included in large national surveys such as the NHANES. This exclusion hinders efforts to characterize potentially important differences between AI men and women, track the costs of these disparities, and effectively treat and prevent these conditions. Objective We examined the sex differences in diabetes prevalence, comorbidity experience, health care utilization, and treatment costs among AIs within a Northern Plains Indian Health Service (IHS) service unit. Methods We assessed data from a sample of 11,144 persons using an IHS service unit in the Northern Plains region of the United States. The intervention sought to increase fruit and vegetable availability, variety, and convenience through placement, promotion, and pricing of healthy foods and beverages in tribal convenience stores. Cell Cycle inhibitor Objective The aim of this study was to describe the development and implementation of the study process evaluation tool to assess intervention fidelity as part of this cluster-controlled trial. Methods Eight stores (2 intervention and 2 control stores per Nation) participated in the study, implemented from May 2016 to May 2017. A web-based survey tailored to store layouts and intervention components assessed how often intervention items were available, approximate quantity available, and whether placement of healthier food items and promotional materials were implemented as designed. After pilot testing the survey, tribal staff members implemented it to collect process evaluation data in the 8 stores during a period of 9-12 mo, assessing study implementation and potential changes in control stores.
