5%) patients, and no grade 4-5 RE was reported. The optimal LKB parameters were n = 0.24, m = 0.51, and TD50 = 44.83 Gy (relative biological effectiveness). The optimism-corrected AUC was 0.783, and the Hosmer-Lemeshow test showed significant agreement between predicted and observed morbidity. Bootstrap validation verified that the model was robust to similar future populations. CONCLUSION Our LKB NTCP model to predict grade ≥2 RE in NSCLC patients who received PSPT showed good predictive performance and robustness to similar future populations, and a smaller volume effect than the previously observed in photon-treated populations. External validation of the model is warranted. BACKGROUND The primary definitive treatment for abdominopelvic sarcomas (APSs) is resection, although incomplete resection has a negative prognostic impact. Although the effectiveness of particle therapy (PT) as a treatment for APS has already been demonstrated, its application for tumors adjacent to the gastrointestinal tract is frequently restricted, due to extremely low tolerance. Space-making PT, consisting of surgical spacer placement and subsequent PT, has been developed to overcome this limitation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between June 2006 and June 2018, a total of 75 patients with 12 types of APS underwent space-making PT. RESULTS The 3-year local control rate of all patients was 90.3%. Fourteen surgery-related complications were observed in 12 patients (16%), and complications of Grade 3b or higher were observed in 3 patients. Ninety-five PT-related complications were seen in 66 patients (88.0%), and 13 patients (17.3%) had complications of Grade 3 or higher. The median V95% (volume irradiated with 95% of the treatment planning dose) of the gross tumor volume and clinical target volume were 99.9% and 99.5%, respectively. The median D95% (dose intensity covering 95% of the target volume) of the gross tumor volume/planned dose and clinical target volume/planned dose were 99.4%, and 99.1%, respectively. CONCLUSION The feasibility and effectiveness of space-making PT have been demonstrated via dosimetric evaluation, and our results indicate that this new strategy may potentially provide an effective and innovative treatment option for advanced APS. BACKGROUND Benzodiazepines have low abuse potential, but patients often develop physical dependence and neurological impairments. The objective of this study was to investigate treatment cessation and use of high doses in long-term benzodiazepine users in Colombia. selleck METHODS Retrospective study. Patients who used benzodiazepines for at least six months (long-term) were selected from a prescription database and followed from initiation of benzodiazepine treatment for up to 30 months. We investigated treatment duration and compared patients who received normal and high (≥2 mean prescribed daily dose) doses. RESULTS Only 1255 (6.1 %) out of 20,567 patientsprescribed benzodiazepines became long-term users; their mean age was 60.6 years (SD=20.0) and 61.7 % were women. Mean high doses were used by 42.5 % (n=534) of the sample. Age under 20 years was a protector, whereas the long half-life benzodiazepines and use of other neurological medications were predictors of high dosage. Overall, 44.8 % (n=563) of the sample was still using benzodiazepines at the end of the study period. The use of antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants were negatively associated with cessation of benzodiazepine treatment. CONCLUSIONS A low proportion of patients starting benzodiazepines became long-term users. Nearly half of them used high doses and continued the medication for up to 30 months. Use of concomitant neurological drugs was associated with higher doses and less cessation. OBJECTIVE To report how an art-based workshop assisted undergraduate nursing students to explore their experiences and beliefs about death and dying. DESIGN A descriptive qualitative study. PARTICIPANTS Year three adult nursing students studying on a full-time undergraduate pre-registration programme. METHODS Long answer questionnaires were completed by 48 undergraduate student nurses, all of whom had participated in the art-based workshop. Qualitative thematic analysis was used to identify, analyse and report themes identified. RESULTS Four themes were identified (1) exploring experiences and beliefs, (2) the role of the art in supporting discussions, (3) the gallery environment, and (4) impact on practice. Participants valued the opportunity to 'slow down', fully examine, and be challenged by, the art prompting reflective and critical discussion. The calm and peaceful gallery environment, and the skilled facilitation increased participant confidence to share experiences and beliefs. Reflecting on the workshop participants reported the workshop increased their understanding of the complexities of care and of addressing these on an individual basis. CONCLUSIONS This shared experience encouraged open and honest discussion and reflection, enhanced critical thinking and the need for compassionate person, and family-centred palliative and end-of-life care. While this study focused on an educational strategy delivered to student nurses, it is an approach that could be used with other health and social care professionals. Close and critical observation of the selected art increased participant understanding and insight of the many experiences and interpretations of death and dying. Mixed grazing of breeding goats and cattle (goats to cattle ratio about 50 %, based on metabolic weight) was monitored for 2 years on a rotational pasture with the two species grazing together, then for 5 years with cattle grazing immediately after goats. For both modalities, the level of goat parasite infection was not significantly different from that of the control groups. Nevertheless, the association allowed a slight improvement in kid growth and goat productivity, probably in relation to a better food quality. The response of adult goats to mixed grazing is therefore very different from that previously obtained with kids post-weaning. The question of the relationship between heterogeneity of pastures, knowledge of their environment, grazing behaviour of adult goats and risk of infection with gastrointestinal nematodes requires further investigation.
