ce between TAR and AAD in clinical outcome, patient satisfaction, complications, and survival. This revealed that TAR and AAD could appear to have similar results in these aspects. Therefore, the present results are not sufficient to conclude which of these two methods is better. Dihydromyricetin Further studies are needed to obtain more clues. © 2020 The Authors. However, the effect of spatial confinement by micropores in the electrochemical behavior of carbon/selenium materials remains ambiguous. A comparative study of using both microporous (MiC) and mesoporous carbons (MeC) with narrow pore size distribution as selenium hosts is herein reported. Systematic investigations reveal that the high Se utilization rate and better electrode kinetics of MiC/Se cathode than MeC/Se cathode may originate from both its improved Li+ and electronic conductivities. The small pore size ( less then 1.35 nm) of the carbon matrices not only facilitates the formation of a compact and robust solid-electrolyte interface (SEI) with low interfacial resistance on cathode, but also alters the insulating nature of Li2 Se due to the emergence of itinerant electrons. By comparing the electrochemical behavior of MiC/Se cathode and the matching relationship between the diameter of pores and the dimension of solvent molecules in carbonate, ether, and solvate ionic liquid electrolyte, the key role of SEI film in the operation of C/Se cathode by quasi-solid-solid mechanism is also highlighted. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. However, bacterial taxa and genes involved in the transformations of different PA compounds and their potential spatial variations remain unclear. This study collected surface bacterioplankton from nearshore, offshore, and open ocean stations in the Gulf of Mexico and examined how metatranscriptomes responded to additions of three single PA model compounds (i.e., putrescine, spermidine, or spermine). Our data showed an overrepresentation of genes affiliated with γ-glutamylation and spermidine cleavage pathways in metatranscriptomes received PA amendments and the expression level of each pathway varied among different PA compounds and sampling locations. PA-transforming taxa were affiliated with Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Cyanobacteria, Planctomycetes, and Proteobacteria and their relative importance was also compound and location specific. These findings suggest that PAs are transformed via multiple pathways and by a diversity of marine bacterioplankton in the Gulf of Mexico. The relative importance of different PA transforming pathways and composition of functional microbial communities may be regulated by nutrient status of local environments. Dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons express a variety of G-protein-coupled receptors that modulate the function of sensory ion channels. Gi-coupled receptors are generally considered inhibitory, as they usually decrease excitability. Paradoxically, activation of Gi-coupled receptors in DRG neurons sometimes induces mechanical hypersensitivity, the mechanism of which is not well understood. Here, we find that activation of Gi-coupled receptors potentiates mechanically activated currents in DRG neurons and heterologously expressed Piezo2 channels, but inhibits Piezo1 currents in heterologous systems in a Gβγ-dependent manner. Pharmacological inhibition of kinases downstream of Gβγ, phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) also abolishes the potentiation of Piezo2 currents. Local injection of sumatriptan, an agonist of the Gi-coupled serotonin 1B/1D receptors, increases mechanical sensitivity in mice, and the effect is abolished by inhibiting PI3K and MAPK. Hence, our studies illustrate an indirect mechanism of action of Gβγ to sensitize Piezo2 currents and alter mechanosensitivity after activation of Gi-coupled receptors. © 2020 The Authors.RATIONALE, AIMS, AND OBJECTIVES The benefits for shared decision-making (SDM) in delivery of high-quality and personalized care are undisputed, but what is it about the dynamics of the delivery room that leads some to doubt that true SDM is possible? How difficult can it be to establish SDM as the norm when caring for a woman in labour? The discussion around SDM, autonomy, and rationality is timely and highly relevant to wider practice. METHOD The concept of a person's autonomy in decision-making about their body and health is generally accepted and is indeed enshrined in law in many countries. This ought to lay the foundation for SDM in obstetrics. Yet, women's experience speaks to an uncomfortable truth, namely, that it is far from commonplace. We are interested in exploring this tension between the law and the practice. RESULTS We examine a theory of female rationality and its application to women in labour, and juxtapose this with the view from the front line of care delivery. Is a woman in labour able to fully engage in an SDM process? In answering this question, associations in the discourses and practises around women's capacity during labour are revealed, which act as barriers, consciously or unconsciously, to establishing SDM as the norm in obstetrics and midwifery. CONCLUSION(S) The recent UN report advocating a human rights-based approach to end mistreatment and violence against women in reproductive health services has a particular focus on childbirth and obstetric violence. This paper contributes to the recognition of obstetric violence as a human rights violation. It offers conceptual tools to diagnose the impact of gender stereotypes during childbirth and to eliminate women's discrimination in the field of reproductive health. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
