sed on this pilot work.We previously found that a near-null magnetic field affected reproductive growth in Arabidopsis under white light. To test whether the effect of a near-null magnetic field on fruit growth of Arabidopsis is related to cryptochrome, we grew wild-type Arabidopsis and cryptochrome double mutant, cry1/cry2, in a near-null magnetic field under blue light. We found that fruit growth of wild-type Arabidopsis instead of the cry1/cry2 mutant was suppressed by the near-null magnetic field. RP-6685 solubility dmso Furthermore, gibberellin (GA) levels of GA4 , GA9 , GA34 , and GA51 in fruits of wild-type plants in the near-null magnetic fields were significantly lower than local geomagnetic field controls. However, in cry1/cry2 mutants, levels of the four detected GAs in fruits in the near-null magnetic fields did not differ significantly from controls. Expressions of GA20-oxidase (GA20ox) genes (GA20ox1 and GA20ox2) and GA3-oxidase (GA3ox) genes (GA3ox1 and GA3ox3) in fruits of wild-type plants rather than cry1/cry2 mutants were downregulated by the near-null magnetic field. In contrast, expressions of GA2-oxidase (GA2ox) genes and GA signaling genes were not affected by the near-null magnetic field. These results indicate that suppression of fruit growth by the near-null magnetic field is mediated by cryptochrome and that GAs are involved in the regulation of fruit growth by the near-null magnetic field. © 2021 Bioelectromagnetics Society.

Effective and aesthetically appealing management options are needed for basal cell carcinoma (BCC), the most common skin cancer. The NdYAG laser shows promise, but most studies use biopsy to demonstrate tumor clearance. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) could allow good tumor margin control while enabling recurrence monitoring.

Determine the efficacy of the NdYAG laser to treat BCCs while controlling for tumor margin with OCT.

A 1064-nm NdYAG laser was applied to treat 119 BCCs in 102 patients, where tumor margins were approximated using OCT. Lesions were treated every 2 months until no residual tumor remained; patients were monitored for 1 year after treatment completion for clinical and subclinical recurrences. Outcomes were analyzed retrospectively.

Most BCCs cleared after one treatment (85/119, 70.4%). Several factors were significantly associated with a suboptimal response, that is, those with recurrence or requiring ≥2 treatments lesion size >5 mm (p = 0.03), focal sclerosing subtype (p = 0.018), and immunosuppression (p = 0.039). Midface location, patient compliance, and diagnosis method were codependent variables (r

= 0.2011, p = 0.0008). All BCCs (119/119) demonstrated complete clinical and subclinical tumor clearance 2 months after final laser treatment. By 1 year, overall clinical recurrence rate (RR) was 1.7% (2/119) and cumulative subclinical RR was 4.2% (5/119). Upon excluding immunosuppressed patients, clinical RR and combined subclinical RR for primary BCC were 1% (1/98) and 2% (2/98), respectively, and 0% (0/17) and 11.8% (2/17), respectively, for recurrent BCC.

The NdYAG nonablative laser can offer an effective treatment for BCCs when used with noninvasive diagnostic tools such as OCT.

Research examining the effectiveness of resistance band exercises for improving physical and psychological dimensions among frail older adults has been inconsistent. We aimed to examine the effects of resistance band exercises for improving outcomes in frail older adults.

To provide robust evidence regarding the effectiveness of resistance band exercises and explore other potential outcomes in frail older adults, a systematic review of RCTs remains necessary.

Systematic literature review and meta-analysis were conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines.

Four databases were searched. English language papers were retrieved from 2006 to 2020. Three reviewers reviewed the methodology of the selected studies using the Joanna Briggs Institute tool for randomised controlled trials. The pooled standardised mean difference was calculated using a random-effects model. Heterogeneity among pooled studies was assessed using the τ

, Q and I

statistics, and publication bias was evaluated using Egger's teolder adults because this intervention has clinical benefits.

As a safe complementary intervention for frail older adults, health providers should consider resistance band exercises when caring for frail older adults because this intervention has clinical benefits.

Unpredictability with the final volume and viability of the graft are the major concerns in fat grafting. An experimental study was conducted to increase graft retention using photobiomodulation (PBM) with polychromatic light in near-infrared region (600-1200 nm) by utilizing its stimulatory effects on angiogenesis, neovascularization, adipocyte viability, and anti-inflammatory properties.

A total of 24 rats were divided into four groups (n = 6) according to the applied polychromatic light protocol to the recipient site (none, before fat transfer, after fat transfer, and combined). In all groups, inguinal fat pad was excised, measured for volume and weight, and transferred to the dorsum of the rat. At the end of the experiment, fat grafts were harvested from the recipient site for volume and weight measurements, histological, and immunohistochemical evaluation.

Intergroup comparison revealed that fat graft retention regarding weight and volume, was significantly superior in Group IV (p = 0.049 and p = 0 volume retention, increased neovascularization and adipocyte viability and reduced necrosis, fibrosis and inflammation.

The prevalence of hypernatremic dehydration (HND) has increased in recent years most likely due to insufficient intake of breast milk as the most important factor. This study aimed to investigate risk factors of HND.

In this study, 47 neonates whom were diagnosed to have HND were included in the study group and 96 healty neonates whom were included in the control group. While demographic data of the patients were recorded, mothers were asked to fill out the sociodemographic/ psychosocial data form, Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale(EPDS) and STAI I and II State and Trait Anxiety Scale. Breast milk sodium concentrations were studied from mothers of all infants. The relationship between the development of neonatal HND and risk factors affecting this condition were evaluated.

Being the first-born baby of the family was found to be a significant risk factor for HND. Breast milk sodium concentration was 25.8±7.9 mmol/L in the HND group which was significantly higher than the control group. Median depression score was similar in both groups and there was no statistical difference in terms of groups.
