The experimental results reveal that the proposed technique achieved an excellent matching performance with an equal error rate of 0.59% and a genuine acceptance rate of 95%. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.In this era of intensive electricity utilization for economic development, the role of urbanization remains inconclusive, especially in developing economies. Here, this study examined the electricity consumption and economic growth nexus in a trivariate framework by incorporating urbanization as an additional variable. Using the recent novel Maki cointegration test, Ng-Perron, Zivot-Andrews, and Kwiatkowski unit root tests along with FMOLS, DOLS and the CCR estimation methods, we relied on an annual frequency data from 1971-2014. Results from FMOLS, DOLS and the CCR regression confirms the electricity consumption-driven economic growth. This is desirable as Nigeria is heavily dependent on energy (electricity) consumption. A unidirectional causality from urbanization to electricity consumption and economic growth was found but the long-run empirical findings revealed urbanization impedes growth - a situation that has policy implications. The study highlights that though urbanization is a good predictor of Nigeria's economic growth, however, the adjustment of the energy portfolio to meet the growing urban demand will curtail the adverse and far-reaching impact of urbanization on the economy. © 2020 The Author(s).Sake lees (Sake-kasu) are the sediments of Japanese sake brewing process from fermented rice with Aspergillus oryzae and yeasts. Sake lees contain various enzymes and metabolites derived from the Sake starter culture, and expected to add aroma, flavor and softness to sausages. We investigated the effects of Sake lees supplementation on fermented dry sausage characteristics over an aging period of 35 days. Sake lees supplementation significantly accelerated sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar protein decomposition and increased peptide and free amino acid content compared to untreated sausage meat. Sake lees significantly acidified the sausages, enhanced their sour taste, and influenced their acceptability. Sake lees supplementation also significantly improved the hardness of the final product and conferred a preferable flavor to it. These results suggest that the various enzymes and compounds in Sake lees improve the flavor and texture of fermented dry sausages. © 2020 The Authors.Unusual side effect of a widely used medication•Iatrogenic induced neurological states•Multifocal myoclonus. Whether or not to resume OAC after an OAC-associated ICH will remain an unanswered clinical question until we have sufficient data through randomized clinical trials. Here, we analyzed the long-term outcome of patients with AF who did or did not resume OAC after an OAC-associated ICH. Patients and methods We studied consecutive patients with AF who were discharged from our institution after an OAC-associated ICH event between 2010 and 2017. Baseline characteristics of patients, past medical history, and history or OAC use were recorded. Outcome measures in our study included recurrent ICH, ischemic stroke or systemic emboli, and death. Results Out of 115 patients with AF and OAC-associated ICH, 93 patients (mean age 76.2 ± 10.3 years [44-91 years old], 54.3% men) were included in therve any significant difference between the group of patients who resumed OAC and the patients who did not in terms of recurrent ICH, ischemic stroke or systemic emboli, and death. However, there was a tendency toward a higher long-term risk of recurrent ICH among patients who resumed OAC. © 2020 The Authors. Background Myocardial infarction (MI) is the major cause of death and disability worldwide. Many recent studies revealed the relationship between circulating irisin levels, endothelial dysfunctions and subclinical atherosclerosis in adult patients. Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of Irisin gene single nucleotide polymorphism in patients with MI and its association with other clinical and laboratory variables in these patients. Patients and methods This study was carried out in 100 patients with MI, and 100 healthy subjects served as controls. All studied subjects underwent laboratory investigations, including measurement of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), creatinine kinase-MB (CK-MB), troponin I (TnI) and genotyping of rs 3480 and rs726344 of Irisin genes using the TaqMan Allelic Discrimination assay technique. Results There was a significant difference of Irisin genotypes in patients when compared to controls. By estimating odd ratio (OR) an association was found between G allele of rs 3480 and A allele of rs726344with increase the risk of developing myocardial infarction by 4.03 and 3.47 fold respectively. GG of rs 3480 carriers had significantly increased Troponin I and triglyceride levels, while GA carriers of rs726344 had significantly increased CKMB, Total cholesterol, LDLc, HDLc, troponin I and triglyceride levels compared with other genotypes. Conclusion G allele of rs 3480 and A allele of rs726344can considered as genetic risk factors for MI; these findings could have an impact on preventive strategy for myocardial infarction. © 2020 Published by Elsevier B.V.Rationale Previously treated persons with bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis (BC-PTB) have increased risk of developing multi-drug resistant or rifampicin resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB). Surveillance for resistance is critical to identify and treat MDR/RR-TB to ensure cure and prevent transmission. LY3473329 supplier There are limited studies conducted on this subject. Objectives We examined the frequency and factors associated with MDR/RR-TB surveillance among previously treated persons with BC-PTB, and described their treatment outcomes in rural eastern Uganda. Methods We reviewed treatment records for BC-PTB between January 2015 and June 2018 at 10 clinics in eastern Uganda. We collected data on demographics, surveillance for MDR/RR, use of GeneXpert and treatment outcomes. We performed bivariate and multivariate analyses. For multivariate analysis, we used the modified Poisson regression analysis with robust standard errors and stated the results as adjusted risk ratio (aRR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI).
