Here, we presented some evidence in support of the relation between artemin and its stress dependent activation in vitro and in vivo. This study can expect that the EEM fluorescence spectroscopy could provide a promising tool to study conformational transitions of proteins.Here we present a new effective antibacterial material suitable for a coating, e.g., surface treatment of textiles, which is also time and financially undemanding. The most important role is played by hydrophobic carbon quantum dots, as a new type of photosensitizer, produced by carbonization of different carbon precursors, which are incorporated by swelling from solution into various polymer matrices in the form of thin films, in particular polyurethanes, which are currently commercially used for industrial surface treatment of textiles. The role of hydrophobic carbon quantum dots is to work as photosensitizers upon irradiation and produce reactive oxygen species, namely singlet oxygen, which is already known as the most effective radical for elimination different kinds of bacteria on the surface or in close proximity to such modified material. Therefore, we have mainly studied the effect of hydrophobic carbon quantum dots on Staphylococcus aureus and the cytotoxicity tests, which are essential for the safe handling of such material. Also, the production of singlet oxygen by several methods (electron paramagnetic spectroscopy, time-resolved near-infrared spectroscopy), surface structures (atomic force microscopy and contact angle measurement), and the effect of radiation on polymer matrices were studied. The prepared material is easily modulated by end-user requirements.Circadian rhythms are driven by an endogenous clock which is synchronized by daily environmental cycles (known as zeitgebers). Although the circadian responses of C. elegans to light have been recently reported, the mechanisms and pathways involved in their synchronization are still unknown. Here we present, by means of a novel behavioral approach, a complete characterization of C. elegans circadian synchronization to light and temperature cycles. Moreover, we screened mutant strains in search of defects of photic and thermal responses in order to study their putative pathways. We show that the wild-type strain is able to synchronize to combined cycles of light and temperature, with the best performance achieved under an optimal combination and phase-relationship of zeitgebers (high temperature in the dark phase and low temperature in the light phase). A lower responsiveness for the mutant strains MT21793 (lite-1/gur3 ko) and IK597 (gcy 8, 18 and 23 ko) was found in response to light and temperature, respectively. However, both mutants were still able to synchronize to a combined cycle of both stimuli. Our results shed light on the response of C. elegans to different zeitgebers as well as their possible synchronization pathways, the molecular components involved in these pathways, and their relative strength.Aminolevulinic acid (ALA) has been approved as an intraoperative molecular imaging probe for protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) fluorescence-guided resection of glioma. Epigenetic inhibitor Here we explored its potential application for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) that is showing increased incidence in recent years. ALA-mediated PpIX in cell lysates (intracellular) and culture medium was measured in five human RCC cell lines (786-O, 769-P, A-704, Caki-1, Caki-2) and a non-tumor human kidney epithelial cell line HK-2 by spectrofluorometry and flow cytometry. The activity of PpIX bioconversion enzyme ferrochelatase (FECH) and PpIX efflux transporter ABCG2 was determined to correlate with the PpIX level. We found that ALA-PpIX fluorescence was highly variable among RCC cell lines and A-704 was the only RCC cell line exhibiting significantly higher intracellular PpIX than HK-2 cells. Neither the intracellular PpIX level nor the total amount of PpIX (including PpIX in cell lysates and the medium) had significant correlation with the activity of FECH or ABCG2. To enhance the intracellular PpIX, cells were treated with Ko143, a pharmacological inhibitor of ABCG2. Ko143 significantly increased the intracellular PpIX in cell lines with ABCG2 activity, but not in cell lines with little ABCG2 activity. In fact, there was a positive correlation between the ABCG2 activity and Ko143-induced PpIX enhancement across kidney cell lines. To identify clinically relevant ABCG2 inhibitors, small molecule inhibitors targeting various cell signaling pathways, some of which are known to inhibit ABCG2, were evaluated for the enhancement of ALA-PpIX in Caki-2 cells that had the highest ABCG2 activity in the RCC cell panel. Our screening led to the identification of several clinically available inhibitors that significantly increased the intracellular PpIX. Particularly, kinase inhibitor lapatinib exhibited the strongest enhancement effect. These clinical inhibitors can be used for the enhancement of ALA-PpIX fluorescence in tumors with elevated ABCG2 activity.The breast cancer screening program has continued in Taiwan during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our nationwide data showed that the total number of screenings decreased by 22.2%, which was more pronounced for in-hospital examinations (-37.2%), while outreach showed a 12.9% decrease. This decline in screening participation happened at all levels of hospitals, more significantly at the highest level. Our report revealed that outreach services could maintain relatively stable breast cancer screening under this kind of public health crisis. Building a flexible, outreach system into the community might need to be considered when policymakers are preparing for future possible pandemics.

Recently, empirical researchers have observed direct associations between conflict and interaction behaviors within organizational teams. However, research concerning indirect links between conflict and interaction behaviors on interdisciplinary teams in nursing school is scant, particularly in Taiwan.

The aim of this study was to explore the relationships among various types of conflict and interaction behaviors on interdisciplinary nursing education teams.

This study utilized a cross-sectional, quantitative, descriptive design. The authors collected survey data from 99 nursing students who participated in 18-week capstone courses of small interdisciplinary groups collaborating to design healthcare products in Taiwan during 2018 and 2019.

Questionnaires assessed the nursing students' perceptions about their teams' conflicts (of task, process, and relationship), and interaction behaviors (constructive controversy, helping behaviors, and spontaneous communication). The authors used descriptive statistics to compare demographics, conflict scores, and interaction behavior scores for collocated and distributed interdisciplinary teams.
