Within the ADHD probands, the remitters, as compared to persisters, showed significantly greater volume of right hippocampo-frontal and right parieto-insular WM fiber tracts, and those connecting caudate with the frontal, parietal, occipital, temporal, and insular cortices. Among ADHD probands, increased fractional anisotropy value of left caudate-parietal tract was significantly correlated with reduced hyperactive/impulsive symptoms. These findings suggest that optimal structural development in the WM tracts that connect caudate with cortical areas, especially in the caudate-parietal path, may play an important role in symptom remission in young adults with childhood ADHD. BACKGROUND We sought to explore the effects of sodium valproate combined with lamotrigine on quality of life and serum inflammatory factors in patients with poststroke secondary epilepsy. METHODS A total of 145 patients with post-stroke secondary epilepsy admitted to our hospital from January 2017 to June 2018 were collected 76 treated with sodium valproate combined with lamotrigine (study group) and 69 patients treated with sodium valproate alone (control group). The levels of serum high-mobility group protein B1, matrix metalloproteinase 9, and interleukin 6 were detected before and after treatment, and the therapeutic efficacy and adverse reactions were compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS The total effective rate of the study group was higher than that of the control group. Both groups decreased in epileptiform discharges or in the number of involved leads after treatment, with the results of the study group being lower than those of the control group. The quality of life scores in both groups was increased after treatment, albeit the scores of the study group were higher than those of the control group. In terms of the levels of serum inflammatory factors, the 2 groups were reduced after treatment; the levels of the study group were lower than those of the control group. Regarding the incidence of adverse reactions, no significant difference was seen between the 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS Sodium valproate combined with lamotrigine has better clinical efficacy and higher safety in the treatment of poststroke secondary epilepsy and is able to reduce the expression levels of serum inflammatory factors. RATIONALE & OBJECTIVE Less than 4% of patients with kidney failure receive kidney transplants. Although discard rates of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-viremic kidneys are declining, ~39% of HCV-viremic kidneys donated between 2018 and 2019 were discarded. Highly effective antiviral agents are now available to treat chronic HCV infection. Thus, our objective was to examine the cost-effectiveness of transplanting kidneys from HCV-viremic donors into HCV-uninfected recipients. STUDY DESIGN Markov state transition decision model. Data sources include Medline search results, bibliographies from relevant English language articles, Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, and the US Renal Data System. SETTING & POPULATION US patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis who are on kidney transplant waiting lists. INTERVENTION(S) Transplantation with an HCV-unexposed kidney versus transplantation with an HCV-viremic kidney and HCV treatment. OUTCOMES Effectiveness measured in quality-adjusted life-years and costs measurcreased quality-adjusted life expectancy and reduced costs compared with a strategy of transplanting kidneys from HCV-unexposed donors. TOPIC To summarize the rates of atrophy, risk factors, and atrophy-associated visual outcomes in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) who received anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment for macular neovascularization (MNV). CLINICAL RELEVANCE Age-related macular degeneration is a leading cause of vision loss worldwide, and VEGF inhibitors are the primary treatment for nAMD. However, atrophy is observed frequently in eyes treated with anti-VEGF therapy, prompting questions regarding a causative role for these therapies in atrophy development. METHODS PubMed was searched for articles published in the past 5 years (January 1, 2014, through January 10, 2019). Studies including atrophy outcome(s) in patients with age-related macular degeneration who received anti-VEGF treatment were included. Enasidenib nmr Review articles, retrospective studies, case reports or studies, preclinical studies, prevalence data reports, and non-English studies were excluded. Randomization was not requirical trials do not necessarily represent real-world patients. Although phenotypes and risk factors may help to identify those at greater risk of atrophy developing, it is important to recognize that adequately treating exudative MNV remains the best option to optimize vision outcomes in patients with nAMD, particularly given the risk of vision loss with undertreatment observed in the real world. PURPOSE To examine the combined effects of common genetic variants associated with intraocular pressure (IOP) on primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) phenotype using a polygenic risk score (PRS) stratification. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS For the primary analysis, we examined the glaucoma phenotype of 2154 POAG patients enrolled in the Australian and New Zealand Registry of Advanced Glaucoma, including patients recruited from the United Kingdom. For replication, we examined an independent cohort of 624 early POAG patients. METHODS Using IOP genome-wide association study summary statistics, we developed a PRS derived solely from IOP-associated variants and stratified POAG patients into 3 risk tiers. The lowest and highest quintiles of the score were set as the low- and high-risk groups, respectively, and the other quintiles were set as the intermediate risk group. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Clinical glaucoma phenotype including maximum recorded IOP, age at diagnosis, number of family members affected bgery, and number of affected family members. Genes acting via IOP-mediated pathways, when considered in aggregate, have clinically important and reproducible implications for glaucoma patients and their close family members.
