Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has become an increasingly important patient-reported outcome in glioma studies. Ideally, collected HRQoL data should be exploited to the full, with proper analytical methods. This systematic review aimed to provide an overview on how HRQoL data is currently evaluated in glioma studies, focusing on the research objectives and statistical analyses of HRQoL data.
A systematic literature search in the databases PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane was conducted up to 5 June 2020. Articles were selected based on predetermined inclusion criteria and information on study design, HRQoL instrument, HRQoL research objective and statistical methods were extracted.
A total of 170 articles describing 154 unique studies were eligible, in which 17 different HRQoL instruments were used. HRQoL was the primary outcome in 62% of the included articles, and 51% investigated ≥1 research question with respect to HRQoL, for which various analytical methods were used. In only 42% oand adherence to existing guidelines about the assessment, analysis and reporting of patient-reported outcomes.This meta-analysis study examined perceived parental differences between Chinese mothers and fathers from the perspective of adolescents. A systematic search for relevant articles published up to 2019 was performed in electronic databases. The random-effect model was used to calculate the weighted and pooled effect size at the 95% confidence interval. This study was based on 43 studies in English peer-reviewed journals involving 55,759 Chinese adolescents aged between 11 and 18 years. We conducted subgroup analyses to explore whether differences in study designs (i.e., cross-sectional and longitudinal) and adolescent gender could explain perceived parental differences. The results showed that perceived maternal parenting attributes were more positive than perceived paternal parenting attributes in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. Besides, perceived paternal parenting attributes showed slightly greater variability than did maternal parenting attributes. Subgroup analysis based on adolescent gender revealed that only adolescent girls perceived maternal parenting attributes to be more positive than paternal parenting attributes.The focus of this research is to quantify the effect of load-coupling mechanisms in anisotropic composites with distinct flexibility. In this context, the study aims to realize a novel testing device to investigate tension-twist coupling effects. This test setup includes a modified gripping system to handle composites with stiff fibers but hyperelastic elastomeric matrices. The verification was done with a special test plan considering a glass textile as reinforcing with different lay-ups to analyze the number of layers and the influence of various fiber orientations onto the load-coupled properties. The results demonstrated that the tension-twist coupling effect strongly depends on both the fiber orientation and the considered reinforcing structure. This enables twisting angles up to 25° with corresponding torque of about 82.3 Nmm, which is even achievable for small lay-ups with 30°/60° oriented composites with distinct asymmetric deformation. For lay-ups with ±45° oriented composites revealing a symmetric deformation lead, as expected, no tension-twist coupling effect was seen. Overall, these findings reveal that the described novel test device provides the basis for an adequate and reliable determination of the load-coupled material properties between stiff fibers and hyperelastic matrices.IVS320 (3a,10b-dihydro-1H-cyclopenta[b]naphtho[2,3-d]furan-5,10-dione) is a naphthoquinone that has low solubility in aqueous medium, a physical behavior that limits its biological activities, considering that compounds from this class have several activities. In this work, solid dispersions (SDs) prepared between IVS320 and polymers hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were developed using physical mixture (PM), kneading (KN), and rotary evaporation (RE) methods. Dispersions were investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, in vitro antiparasitic activity in Trypanosoma cruzi Y strains was evaluated. Physical-chemical characterization demonstrated the formation of SDs through the interaction of IVS320 with polymeric matrices. SDs of IVS320-polymer presented a significant potentiation of antichagasic activity, with inhibitory growth around 62% (IVS320-HPMC/RE), 55% (IVS320-PEG/RE), and 85% (IVS320-PVP/RE), while pure IVS320 showed a value of 48% for the highest concentrations evaluated (50 µg/mL).The signaling pathways induced by Pseudomonas putida in rice plants at the early plant-rhizobacteria interaction stages, with and without inoculation of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, were studied. In the absence of pathogen, P. putida reduced ethylene (ET) production, and promoted root and stem elongation. Interestingly, gene OsHDA702, which plays an important role in root formation, was found significantly up-regulated in the presence of the rhizobacterium. Although X. oryzae pv. GDC-0449 chemical structure oryzae inoculation enhanced ET production in rice plants, P. putida treatment repressed ET-, jasmonic acid (JA)- and salicylic acid (SA)-mediated defense pathways, and induced the biosynthesis of abscisic acid (ABA), and the overexpression of OsHDA705 and some pathogenesis-related proteins (PRs), which in turn increased the susceptibility of the rice plants against the pathogen. Collectively, this is the first work on the defense signaling induced by plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria in plants at the early interaction stages, and suggests that rhizobacteria stimulate an alternative defense mechanism in plants based on ABA accumulation and OsHDA705 signaling.Neonatal diarrhoea (ND), post-weaning diarrhoea (PWD) and oedema disease (OD) are among the most important diseases affecting pig farming due to economic losses. Among the main aetiological agents, strains of Escherichia coli are identified as the major responsible pathogens involved. Several strategies have been put in place to prevent these infections and, today, research is increasingly studying alternative methods to antibiotics to reduce the antibiotic resistance phenomenon. Essential oils (EOs) are among the alternative tools that are being investigated. In this study, the in vitro effectiveness of winter savory and manuka essential oils and their mixtures in different proportions against strains of E. coli isolated from episodes of disease in pigs was evaluated. The EOs alone demonstrated slight antibacterial effectiveness, whereas the blends, by virtue of their synergistic action, showed remarkable activity, especially the 70%-30% winter savory-manuka blend, showing itself as a potential tool for prevention and therapy.
