Secondly, this study aimed to explore the role of socio-ecological variables on these processes. Methods A sample of 166 participants (108 females, 58 males, Mage = 18.14[.96]) completed self-report pre-and posttest data on vigorous PA (VPA), moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA), and body mass index (BMI). Results The results showed a statistically significant increase in BMI, but no statistically significant changes in VPA or MVPA. The findings revealed that our socio-ecological model predicted .71, .39, and .92 percent of the end of the year VPA, MVPA, and BMI, respectively. The findings highlighted the positive role of peer support, positive motivation, and university's Recreational Services on measured healthy behaviors. Conclusions These findings suggest a need to increase college students' VPA.Background and Purpose Although the use of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to return gait speed and function in patients poststroke is well documented, the use of NMES to the gluteus medius in patients with hemiparesis is not well described. The purpose of this case report is to describe the use of gait synchronized NMES to the right gluteus medius of a patient with right hemiparesis who had poor hip abduction control during the stance phase of the gait cycle and impaired balance.Case Description A 72-year-old female presented to the emergency department with right-sided hemiparesis. During her fifteen day stay in in-patient rehabilitation she demonstrated a Trendelenburg gait pattern, indicating the use of functional NMES to the gluteus medius to help improve her hip abduction control during the stance phase of gait.Outcomes After intervention which included traditional rehabilitation as well as functional NMES, the patient's gait speed increased from 0.22 m/s to 0.69 m/s and her Berg Balance Scale (BBS) increased from a 14/56 to 32/56 over a 14 day period indicating an improvement in dynamic balance and community ambulation.Discussion This case report outlines the novel use of NMES to the gluteus medius during the stance phase of the gait cycle in a patient with poor hip abductor control. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short-term effect of temperature on the risk of acute pancreatitis (AP) in southern China. We performed a time-series study of 2822 patients admitted with a first episode of AP in Nanchang between May 2014 and June 2017. A generalized additive model combined with a distributed lag non-linear model was applied to assess the association of temperature and AP. In subgroup analysis, according to different etiologies of pancreatitis, significant associations were found between daily average temperature and non-biliary pancreatitis hospitalization at lags of 0-7 days, but not for biliary pancreatitis or total AP. Higher daily average temperature tended to increase the occurrence of non-biliary pancreatitis at lags of 0-7 days. These findings suggest that high temperature is associated with higher non-biliary pancreatitis risk in Nanchang, China. In the context of global warming, the morbidity of non-biliary pancreatitis may increase.Reddit is an anonymous social media platform that allows users to create, modify, share, and discuss content. While this platform is widely used by mainstream audiences, little research exists on how Redditors respond to health information when it appears in general, non-health specific forums called subreddits. Guided by media system dependency theory, the purpose of this study was to anonymously intervene on college subreddits to explore how Redditors interacted with messages about smoke-free policy compliance. Two messages were posted two weeks apart on ten college subreddits, yielding 370 comments (per thread range = 66-0) and 552 Karma points (per thread range = 123-0). A content analytic approach was employed, identifying eight content themes, and classifying message tone. The most popular themes were general smoking [n = 85], animosity toward smoke-free policies/compliance [n = 68], and smoke-free policy/compliance support [n = 65]). Most comments expressed a neutral tone [n = 196]. Data suggest that Redditors are willing to interact with health content on their college subreddits to varying degrees, especially if this content conforms to norms of the subreddit and/or platform. CRT0066101 ic50 Implications from the findings suggest important considerations for use of Reddit as a future site for health interventions.Evolving evidence demonstrates that platelets have major roles in viral syndromes through previously unrecognized viral sensing and effector functions. Activated platelets and increased platelet-leukocyte aggregates are observed in clinical and experimental viral infections. The mechanisms and outcomes of platelet-leukocyte interactions depend on the interacting leukocyte as well as on the pathogen and pathological conditions. In this review, we discuss the mechanisms involved in platelet interactions with leukocytes and its functions during viral infections. We focus on the contributions of human platelet-leukocyte interactions to pathophysiological and protective responses during viral infections of major global health relevance, including acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), dengue hemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome (DHF/DSS), influenza pneumonia, and COVID-19.Women living with HIV (WLWH) face unique barriers and require specialized, integrated care that focuses on women's specific needs. We conducted a scoping review to examine factors important for a women-centred HIV care (WCHC) approach. We included published peer-reviewed articles which featured WCHC services as their central focus; included study populations of girls and WLWH aged 14 years of age or older; and contributed to the understanding of WCHC for WLWH. Seven databases were reviewed and yielded 15,332 references, of which 21 fit our inclusion criteria for the scoping review. Research findings were categorized into characteristics of the study, recommendations, and target audiences. Findings revealed WCHC as care which includes the involvement of WLWH in decisions; person-centred integrated care; integrated services including mental health; sexual and reproductive health services; trauma-informed and safe space practices; healthcare provider training; and women's care self-management. In general, current systems of care do not meet the unique needs of WLWH.
