What is a Volvo Truck Key?

Key to ignition

The ignition key is the mechanical element that turns on the vehicle. It also opens the doors and trunk. Certain keys can be used for additional purposes, such as an emergency key, trunk release or liftgate release.

The blade of the key can cause problems. A Volvo-registered locksmith can make you a new key. They usually can do it without the car.

Certain Volvo keys have features such as a red or restricted key. truck key cover are controlled by how the car was delivered from the factory. A dealer can order an upgrade that disables the restricted key function. VIDA can be used by the dealer to accomplish this. You can do it yourself, if you own all the software and tools.

Key fobs that are red or orange in the color. The shells of the special keys can be removed before they can be used on another vehicle. Dealers or you can modify the keys. There is no "virginizing" required for Volvo key fobs.

Remote Key





The remote key lets you open the doors and begin your vehicle. It also controls the locks and activate or deactivate certain functions, including panorama roof or power windows. The key has a limited function that blocks motion sensing*. You can purchase this feature either from your Volvo-certified dealer (you will need proof of ownership), or a Volvo-certified locksmith. This key is marked in red or orange. The color of the key's release slider matches the color of the key blade. Switching a key with an old one does not affect the function.

Programming (adding) the new remote is simple, just follow VIDA's instructions. It doesn't have to be an "virgin" key, either. Sit in driver's chair with door shut. Press the lock button on the new remote. The side marker light will blink, indicating the key is programmable.

Keyless Entry Key

One press on the keyless entry button locks the car and triggers the alarm. A long press shuts all windows and the panoramic roof*. The key is equipped with a tiny button battery. A Volvo-registered locksmith or the dealer can make you an entry key that is keyless. They can also program keys to your Volvo. You can swap key shells on the key fob, and it will function interchangably.

Key Fob

A key fob is part of the VOLVO key and contains the keyless entry function, lock and unlock. It also comes with a panic key that will activate the vehicle alarm. The key fob also has the ability to shut your windows, or open the panoramic roof*. The key fob comes in plastic with silver buttons that matches the color of your car. You can change this shell between keys, and the function will not change.

A dealer can make you a new blade for your key fob. A locksmith who is registered with Volvo can do this, but they may require proof of ownership. truck key cover can also utilize blank keys to copy the emergency blade. However, you will need to program the keys via VIDA to make it work inside your vehicle.
