Hostile sexism expresses derogation of women's competence and emphasizes that women will exploit men's relational dependence. Men who endorse hostile sexism perceive their female partners more negatively, but do these negative perceptions stem from motives for dominance or insecurities about dependence? We tested both perspectives by assessing bias in perceptions of partners' behaviors that challenge dominance (criticism, instruction, taking over) versus affirm partners are dependable (love, care, availability). AcetylcholineChloride Both members of 100 heterosexual couples reported how much they received and enacted these behaviors in (a) a lab-based discussion and (b) six monthly retrospective reports about an ongoing important goal. In both support contexts, men's hostile sexism was associated with underestimating dependability-relevant support, particularly when partners reported providing low support. This pattern did not emerge for dominance-relevant behaviors. These results indicate that men's hostile sexism involves insecurities about dependence, producing perceptions that female partners are less dependable than they actually are.Medicinal plants and their derivatives are human-friendly, nutritional supplements, and their use in the poultry industry is increasing today. Cynara scolymus is a very high-quality antioxidant medicine plant that has recently attracted the attention of poultry and nutrition researchers to supplement their rations and reduce feed costs. In the present study, the effect of powder and extract of C. scolymus on broilers has reviewed. This review shows that the impact of C. scolymus on production performance, carcass characteristics, liver enzymes activity, and meat characteristics of broiler chickens are not significant. However, the negative impact of this compound on these properties has not reported. Moreover, cholesterol levels reduced by the dietary C. scolymus supplementation. The impact of C. scolymus powder and extract on chickens' broiler immunity was not significant in the cited literature, but dietary C. scolymus powder increases Newcastle antibody titers and lowers blood pressure. Dietary C. scolymus under heat stress increased anti-sheep red blood cell titers. No substantial studies have conducted on the effect of C. scolymus on broilers. Therefore, it is not possible to determine a single dosage for the use of C. scolymus powder or extract in broiler diets to the improvement of the broiler characteristics. More researches are needed to determining the appropriate dosage to achieve maximum performance.Purpose Individuals with mechanical ankle instability (MAI) and functional ankle instability (FAI) present with residual movement dysfunctions after an initial lateral ankle sprain. This study investigated leg stiffness control to determine how behavioural characteristics between MAI and FAI differ during single-leg drop landing movement. Methods Thirty individuals (10 with MAI, 10 with FAI, and 10 healthy controls) participated in this study. During single-leg drop landing movement, we estimated dimensionless leg stiffness, peak vertical force (PVF), change in the displacement of leg movement, loading rate, angular joint movement, and internal joint moment for impaired and unimpaired legs, respectively. Univariate one-way analysis of variance was used for each dependent variable across leg conditions. Results The MAI group had lower dimensionless leg stiffness with greater change in the displacement of leg movement for the impaired leg than the FAI and control groups. Moreover, reduced leg stiffness was associated with greater hip joint flexion movement in the MAI group, whereas ankle dorsiflexion movement increased to decrease the leg stiffness in the FAI and control groups. Conclusion These findings indicate that lower leg stiffness in the MAI group than in the FAI group may be attributed to compensatory actions to minimise reliance on their ankle movement after landing. In digital replantation, Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation has commonly been used for osteosynthesis. On the other hand, K-wires are often obtrusive because of protrusion from the replanted digit. We describe a case series treated using hydroxyapatite/poly-L-lactide (HPLLA) threaded pins, which are not only bioabsorbable, but also osteoconductive, for osteosynthesis in crushed amputation or comminuted fracture, including distal phalanx amputation. Using an HPLLA threaded pin, 10 digital replantations were performed between July 2016 and April 2018. The precisely cut pin is manually pushed into the fracture site as an intramedullary nail. The pin is first pushed into the distal site, and then into the proximal site, after drilling with a K-wire of the same diameter as the pin. All amputations were crush type, and levels of amputations were Tamai zone I in three cases, zone II in two and zone III in five. Eight of the 10 digits survived. The two digits that did not survive showed venous insufficiency. Bone union of the eight digits was successfully obtained after 9-19 weeks (median 12 weeks). No adverse events occurred such as distortion of the pin, infection or foreign body reaction. The HPLLA threaded pin may be an adequate device to fix fractures in digital replantation.Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency are associated with serious sequelae in childhood cancer survivors. However, data on vitamin D deficiency in children with newly diagnosed cancer are scarce and the role of sociodemographic factors and vitamin D supplementation is largely unknown. We assessed vitamin D status and its socio-demographic and clinical correlates in 163 children with newly diagnosed cancer, using 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations and assessed longitudinal changes following vitamin D supplementation. Sixty-five percent of the patients with newly diagnosed cancer had low 25(OH)D concentrations. Fifty-two patients (32%) were vitamin D deficient (≤20 ng/mL 25(OH)D concentration), and 53(33%) were insufficient (21-29 ng/mL 25(OH)D concentration). Age over 10 (P = 0.019), Hispanic ethnicity (P = 0.002), and female sex (P = 0.008) were significantly associated with lower 25(OH)D concentration at diagnosis. Vitamin D supplementation resulted in significant increase in 25(OH)D concentrations (P  less then  0.
