Finally, we examined the signal pathway affecting the follicular development after Kp treatment. We detected a significant decrease in the mRNA levels of B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2), Sirt1, and PI3K, but the mRNA levels of NF-κB, Caspase3, COX2, P21, and P53 were significantly higher than in the control. Taken together, our results showed the importance of FN for preantral follicle developmental, and, for the first time, we reported that FN could neutralize the deleterious consequences of Kp, suggesting a potential role in the regulation of PI3K/Sirt1 signaling in bovine preantral follicle development.

Nightmares are extremely unpleasant and vivid recurring dreams that are accompanied with awakening during sleep. selleck chemicals However, earlier studies were mostly conducted with children and adults, with very few studies on nightmares in older adults. This population-based study aims to investigate the prevalence of nightmares and its associated factors nightmares in the elderly.

This study utilized a subsample from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES). Participants (n=2940; mean age 63.71±6.73) completed the questionnaires on nightmares (Disturbing Dream and Nightmare Severity Index; DDNSI), depression, suicidal ideation, sleep quality and stress.

Among the sample, 2.7% (n=79) were classified into the nightmare group (NG), which was classified with DDNSI scores. In the age group over 70, prevalence of nightmares was 6.3% (n=37), which was significantly higher than other age groups. Marital status, employment status and family income were associated with nightmares. Additionally, NG reported significantly more sleep problems, higher suicidal ideation, depression and stress compared to the non-nightmare group (N-NG). Logistic regression analyses results indicated that the NG was 4.35 times at higher risk for depression, and 3.16 higher risks for stress, and 3.45 higher risks for suicidal ideation compared to the N-NG after controlling for covariates.

Our results indicate that psychological and demographic factors are associated with nightmares in the elderly. Furthermore, this population-based cohort study showed the prevalence of nightmares increased after age 70, which suggests the need for further studies of nightmares in older populations.

Here, we reported an advanced immunohistochemical method based on an artificial structure gathering multiple COCs by paraffin embedding for rapid and highly sensitive detection of co-expressed proteins in ovine COCs rather than ovaries. Compared with the conventional immunohistochemistry on ovine ovaries, the advanced COC paraffin sectioning technique showed the better immunostaining effect and featured the higher generation rate for COCs, the distincter cumulus layers, and the more simplified procedures. These results indicate that the COC paraffin sectioning technique is highly effectively applied for identification of protein expression in ovine COC.Fluoride, widely presented in drinking water and tea, may be detrimental or beneficial to the human health, depending on its dosages ingested. However, the relationship of different dosages of fluoride and gut microbiota is still unclear. In this work, the fermentation model using fecal samples provided by four volunteers was used to evaluate the effects of different dosages of fluoride (1, 2, 10 and 15 mg/L) on the gut microbiota in vitro. The result showed low dosages of fluoride (1 and 2 mg/L) had limited effect on the structure and functional Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway of gut microbiota. Furthermore, the low dosage of fluoride could promote the growth of beneficial gut microbiota, including Faecalibacterium and Lactobacillus. Whereas, the high dosage of fluoride (10 and 15 mg/L) significantly changed the composition and functional KEGG pathway of gut microbiota. Moreover, the high dosage of fluoride could also reduce the beneficial gut microbiota, including Faecalibacterium and Phascolarctobacterium, and increase the harmful bacterium including Proteobacteria and Enterobacteriaceae. Both low and high dosages of fluoride showed limited effect on the productions of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Thus, the beneficial or detrimental fluoride to gut microbiota depends on its dosages. The fluoride is expected to serve as a food additive in suitable dosage to improve human health through modulation of the gut microbiota. Moreover, more attention should be paid to toxicity of fluoride with high dosage to gut microbiota.Evidence available on the effects of size-fractionated particulate matters and their constituents on children's renal function is lack. We conducted a longitudinal panel study among 144 children aged 4-12 years with up to 3 repeated visits from 2018 to 2019. We estimated the effects of size-fractionated particle number counts (PNCs) and their 13 constituents on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) over different lag times with linear mixed-effects models and Bayesian kernel machine regression. We found the inverse dose-responsive associations of 3 sizes PNCs with eGFR were the strongest at lag 2 day. Compared to PNC0.5, PNC1 and PNC2.5 showed stronger and similar effects on eGFR reduction. On average, an interquartile range increase in PNC0.5, PNC1 and PNC2.5 were significantly associated with 1.70%, 2.82% and 2.76% decrease in eGFR, respectively. Girls were more susceptible to the toxicity of PNC1 and PNC2.5 exposure on eGFR. Several constituents including organic carbon (OC), Mg+, PO3- and HC2O4- in 3 sizes PNCs were robustly and consistently linked to eGFR reduction at lag 2 day. Moreover, the cumulative effects of different constituents on lower eGFR were significant, when they were all at or above a size-independent threshold (the 60th, 65th, and 70th percentiles in PNC0.5, PNC1 and PNC2.5 constituents, respectively), compared to their median value. And only OC displayed a significantly detrimental effect on eGFR when all the other constituents were fixed at 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles. In summary, short-term exposure to PNCs were size-dependent related to reduced eGFR in dose-responsive manner among healthy children, and OC might play a more important role in PNC-induced nephrotoxicity than others.
