To assist physicians identify COVID-19 and its manifestations through the automatic COVID-19 recognition and classification in chest CT images with deep transfer learning. In this retrospective study, the used chest CT image dataset covered 422 subjects, including 72 confirmed COVID-19 subjects (260 studies, 30,171 images), 252 other pneumonia subjects (252 studies, 26,534 images) that contained 158 viral pneumonia subjects and 94 pulmonary tuberculosis subjects, and 98 normal subjects (98 studies, 29,838 images). In the experiment, subjects were split into training (70%), validation (15%) and testing (15%) sets. We utilized the convolutional blocks of ResNets pretrained on the public social image collections and modified the top fully connected layer to suit our task (the COVID-19 recognition). In addition, we tested the proposed method on a finegrained classification task; that is, the images of COVID-19 were further split into 3 main manifestations (ground-glass opacity with 12,924 images, consolidation wive the auxiliary diagnosis and reduce the workload for the radiologists.Raillietina echinobothrida (R. echinobothrida) is one of the most pathogenic and prevalent tapeworms threat to the commercial chickens in China. However, there is a lack of research on their molecular identification and morphological characteristics. This study explored the molecular identification markers for R. echinobothrida in North China based on 18s ribosomal RNA (18s rRNA) gene and the ribosomal DNA second internal transcribed spacer (ITS-2) gene. The BLAST results of 18s rRNA (1643 bp) and ITS-2 (564 bp) gene sequences showed that the isolated intestinal tapeworms were R. echinobothrida. Phylogenetic trees obtained by maximum likelihood (ML) or neighbor-joining (NJ) method revealed that the R. echinobothrida in North China had the closest evolutionary relationship with the species found on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, China. Morphological observations by hematoxylin staining and scanning electron microscope showed four round suckers and a retractable rostellum on the spherical scolex of R. echinobothrida. Two rows of alternately arranged hooks distributed around the rostellum. There were 30-40 testes in each mature segment. A well-developed cirrus pouch lied outside the excretory duct of mature segment. D-Cycloserine The gravid segment contained 200-400 eggs and there was a well-developed oncosphere in each egg. In addition, abundant ultrastructural features in mature proglottid of R. echinobothrida in North China were identified by transmission electron microscopy. In conclusion, the present study established ways of molecular phylogenetic identification for R. echinobothrida based on 18s rRNA and ITS-2 gene, and identified the morphological and ultrastructural characteristics of R. echinobothrida in North China.Quorum sensing controls bacterial virulence through signaling molecules, which plays a vital role in managing foodborne pathogens that cause food spoilage and human infections. Though many synthetic compounds have been used to control infection, antibiotic resistance has become a global issue. Targeting the bacterial quorum sensing using the bioactive compounds could be an alternative strategy to combat their resistance. In this context, polyphenols from an unexplored unripe and ripe fruits of Carissa spinarum were evaluated for anti-quorum sensing activity. The study aimed at determining nutritional, phytochemical composition, and polyphenol profiling to evaluate their antioxidant potential of the fruit. Furthermore, the violacein inhibition, anti-biofilm, and effect on the motility of foodborne pathogens were also studied. The phytochemical content of C. spinarum fruit showed the phenolic and flavonoid content 273.20 mg GAE/100 g and 453.78 mg QE/100 g fresh weight , respectively, in ripe fruit. HPLC characterization of fruit extracts showed high content of syringic acid, resveratrol, and quercetin in ripe, whereas it showed epicatechin and gentisic acid in unripe fruit. The antioxidant activity of the ripe fruit extract exhibited a higher potential to scavenge DPPH radicals with IC50 4.69 mg/mL. Further, the anti-quorum sensing activity was higher in ripe fruit extract at 1.8 mg/mL inhibited with 78.65% violacein production in Chromobacterium violaceum, swimming motility, and biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Yersinia enterocolitica (66.25% and 59.36% respectively at 1.2 mg/mL). Hence C. spinarum fruit bioactive could be a natural plant source for anti-quorum sensing activity to manage foodborne pathogens over synthetic compounds.Statistical methods to test hypotheses about direct and indirect effects from a person-oriented research perspective are scarce. For categorical variables, previously suggested approaches use configural frequency analysis (CFA) to detect extreme patterns (CFA Types/Antitypes) that are responsible for the observed direct and indirect effects. Existing methods rest on complex (log-linear) model comparison strategies and may perform poorly with respect to Type I error protection and statistical power. We, therefore, propose a simplified configural approach to answer the question "What carries a mediation process?" This simplified approach is based on two log-linear models that are needed to estimate (variable-oriented) direct and indirect effects. The first model identifies extreme patterns for the predictor-mediator path, the second model searches for extreme cells in the mediator-outcome path. Joint significance testing can be used to test the presence of mediation. Definitions of Mediation Types/Antitypes are given based on possible Type/Antitype patterns for the binary simple mediation model. In two Monte-Carlo simulation experiments, we evaluate the performance of the simplified approach in a homogenous population (i.e., where all individuals develop homogenously along a variable-oriented mediation mechanism) and a heterogenous population (i.e., where specific configurations, instead of a variable-oriented effect, drive the mediation process). Results suggest that the presented approach performs acceptably with respect to Type I error protection and statistical power. In general, larger sample sizes are preferable to reliably detect mediation-generating configurations. An empirical example is given for illustrative purposes and extensions and limitations of the proposed method are discussed.
