e diagnosis.

Novel antibodies to trisulfated heparin disaccharide (TS-HDS) and fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR-3) have been recently described in otherwise cryptogenic small fiber neuropathy (SFN) cases. Our goal was to further describe clinical features in such cases and to analyze treatment responses.

In a retrospective analysis, 40 cases of cryptogenic SFN in a university neuropathy clinic were identified. Of these, TS-HDS and FGFR-3 cases were identified, and clinical features and treatment responses were analyzed.

In this cohort, 95% were women, and 55% had either TS-HDS or FGFR-3 antibodies (77% of these had TS-HDS). Of the seropositive group, 41% had a nonlength dependent epidermal nerve fiber density on skin punch biopsy (OR = 1.80). In the seropositive group, 82% had neuropathic pain as their primary symptom (OR = 1.73). Also 32% of seropositive patients reported widespread pain (OR = 1.63). Eeyarestatin 1 price 63% of seropositive cases presented acutely (OR = 11.0). In the seropositive group, 23% had an initial erroneous diagnosis (OR = 1.47). Eight seropositive patients improved on intravenous immunoglobulin treatment, with a 42% reduction in pain scores (P = 0.02), a 44% reduction in the Utah Neuropathy Score, and improved epidermal nerve fiber density post-treatment.

TS-HDS and FGFR-3 antibodies may be present in a high proportion of cryptogenic SFN cases with acute onset, nonlength dependent pathology, and primary neuropathic and widespread pain. They are often misdiagnosed as other conditions including fibromyalgia. These cases may be responsive to immune treatment, especially with intravenous immunoglobulin.

We aimed to obtain nationally representative data on hospital readmission rates after Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS).

International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision codes from the 2013 National Readmissions Database identified adult GBS admissions, comorbidities, and readmission diagnoses. Logistic regression estimated odds ratios (ORs) for readmission.

Of 2109 GBS admissions identified, 20.8% were readmitted within 1 year and 12.2% within 30 days. Age did not predict readmission. Plasmapheresis use showed a nonsignificant trend toward readmission versus intravenous immunoglobulin use [OR 1.43, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.00-2.051, P = 0.050]. Respiratory failure (OR 1.70, 95% CI 1.23-2.35, P = 0.0014), heart failure (OR 2.14, 95% CI 1.25-3.66, P = 0.0057), and renal failure (OR 2.00, 95% CI 1.20-3.32, P = 0.0078) predicted readmission. Top readmission diagnoses included GBS or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (42.0%) and sepsis (3.5%).

One-fifth of GBS patients were readmitted within 1 year. Comorbid illnesses and respiratory complications increased a readmission risk but age did not.

The prevalence of skin diseases and diabetes mellitus (DM) are prominent around the world. The current scope of knowledge regarding the prevalence of skin diseases and comorbidities with type 2 DM (T2DM) is limited, leading to limited recognition of the correlations between skin diseases and T2DM.

We collected 383 subjects from the Da Qing Diabetes Study during the period from July 9th to September 1st, 2016. The subjects were categorized into three groups Normal glucose tolerance (NGT), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and T2DM. The prevalence and clinical characteristics of skin diseases were recorded and investigated.

In this cross-sectional study, 383 individuals with ages ranging from 53 to 89-year-old were recruited. The overall prevalence of skin diseases was 93.5%, and 75.7% of individuals had two or more kinds of skin diseases. Additionally, there were 47 kinds of comorbid skin diseases in patients with T2DM, of which eight kinds of skin diseases had a prevalence >10%. The prevalence of skiy, increased awareness and intervention measures should be implemented.

Pre-operative non-invasive histological evaluation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a challenge. Tumor perfusion is significantly associated with the development and aggressiveness of HCC. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the clinical value of quantitative liver perfusion parameters and corresponding histogram parameters derived from traditional triphasic enhanced computed tomography (CT) scans in predicting histological grade of HCC.

Totally, 52 patients with HCC were enrolled in this retrospective study and underwent triple-phase enhanced CT imaging. The blood perfusion parameters were derived from triple-phase CT scans. The relationship of liver perfusion parameters and corresponding histogram parameters with the histological grade of HCC was analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to determine the optimal ability of the parameters to predict the tumor histological grade.

The variance of arterial enhancement fraction (AEF) was significantly higher inpredictive value of 0.781.

Liver perfusion parameters and corresponding histogram parameters (including ΔHF, rHF, ΔPVP, rPVP, and AEFvariance) in patients with HCC derived from traditional triphasic CT scans may be helpful to non-invasively and pre-operatively predict the degree of the differentiation of HCC.

Follistatin-like 1 (FSTL1) plays both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory roles in the inflammatory processes. We investigated whether serum FSTL1 could predict the current anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV)-specific indices.

We randomly selected 74 patients with AAV from a prospective and observational cohort of Korean patients with AAV. Clinical and laboratory data and AAV-specific indices were recorded. FSTL1 concentration was determined using the stored sera. The lowest tertile of the short-form 36-item health survey (SF-36) was defined as the current low SF-36. The cutoffs of serum FSTL1 for the current low SF-36 physical component summary (PCS) and SF-36 mental component summary (MCS) were extrapolated by the receiver operator characteristic curve.

The median age was 62.5 years (55.4% were women). Serum FSTL1 was significantly correlated with SF-36 PCS (r =  - 0.374), SF-36 MCS (r = -0.377), and C-reactive protein (CRP) (r = 0.307), but not with Birmingham vasculitis activity score (BVAS).
