Finger mobility plays a crucial role in everyday living and is a leading indicator during hand rehabilitation and assistance tasks. Depth-based hand pose estimation is a potentially low-cost solution for the clinical and home-based measurement of symptoms of limited human finger motion.
The purpose of this study was to achieve the contactless measurement of finger motion based on depth-based hand pose estimation using Azure Kinect depth cameras and transfer learning, and to evaluate the accuracy in comparison with a three-dimensional motion analysis (3DMA) system.
Thirty participants performed a series of tasks during which their hand motions were measured concurrently using the Azure Kinect and 3DMA systems. We propose a simple and effective approach to achieving real-time hand pose estimations from single depth images using ensemble convolutional neural networks trained by a transfer learning strategy. Algorithms to calculate the finger joint motion angles are presented by tracking the locations of thMoreover, our method runs in real time at over 45 fps.
The results of this study suggest that the proposed method has the capacity to measure the performance of fine motor skills.

However, the thermal coagulation zone generated using the conventional RFA system can only successfully treat tumours up to 3 cm in diameter. Switching bipolar RFA has been proposed as a way to increase the thermal coagulation zone. Presently, the understanding of the underlying thermal processes that takes place during switching bipolar RFA remains limited. Hence, the objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive understanding on the thermal ablative effects of time-based switching bipolar RFA on liver tissue. Five switch intervals, namely 50, 100, 150, 200 and 300 s were investigated using a two-compartment 3D finite element model. The study was performed using two pairs of RF electrodes in a four-probe configuration, where the electrodes were alternated based on their respective switch interval. The physics employed in the present study were verified against experimental data from the literature. Results obtained show that using a shorter switch interval can improve the homogeneity of temperature distribution within the tissue and increase the rate of temperature rise by delaying the occurrence of roll-off. The coagulation volume obtained was the largest using switch interval of 50 s, followed by 100, 150, 200 and 300 s. The present study demonstrated that the transient thermal response of switching bipolar RFA can be improved by using shorter switch intervals.Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) remains a terminal disease without an established etiology for the majority of patients. The dominant theory of ALS before the 1970's was the presence of a poison. One of the primary means of treating patients with a toxic exposure has been plasma exchange, but plasma exchange of ALS patients failed to alter the clinical course. The failure of plasma exchange assumes the patient is no longer exposed to the poison. If the exposure to poison continued, then plasma exchange alone would fail. I found laboratory evidence of a poisoning in every patient with ALS examined. A search for specific poisons found evidence of mycotoxins. Treatment with antifungal agents corrected the laboratory findings. All of the ALS patients had evidence of immune suppression. ENOblock research buy There is mounting evidence that many mycotoxins cause both neurotoxicity and immune suppression. These mycotoxins may be able to explain the full spectrum of pathology in ALS without a secondaryevent.Over the previous decades, biotechnological innovations have led to improved agricultural productivity, more nutritious foods and lower chemical usage. Both in western societies and Low Medium Income Countries (LMICs). However, the projected increases in the global population, means the production of nutritious food stuffs must increase dramatically. Building on existing genetic modification technologies a series of New Plant Breeding Technologies (NPBT) has recently emerged. These approaches include, Agro-infiltration, grafting, cis and intragenesis and gene editing technologies. How these new techniques should be regulated has fostered considerable debate. Concerns have also been raised, to ensure over-regulation does not arise, creating administrative and economic burden. In this article the existing landscape of genetically modified crops is reviewed and the potential of several New Plant Breeding Techniques (NPBT) described. Metabolomics is an omic technology that has developed in a concurrent manner with biotechnological advances in plant breeding. There is potentially further opportunities to advance our metabolomic technologies to characterise the outputs of New Plant Breeding Technologies, in a manner that is beneficial both from an academic, biosafety and industrial perspective.Cadmium (Cd)-caused water environment pollution has become a matter of concern. Gill is an organ with respiratory and mucosal immune functions, and is also one of the organs directly attacked by pollutants. It was found that excess Cd could cause Cd accumulation and gill injury in carp. However, the mechanism of Cd-caused damage in common carp gills is still unclear. Oxidative stress, immunosuppression, and apoptosis took part in the mechanism of poisoning caused by some harmful substances. The aim of the study was to investigate complex molecular mechanism of apoptotic injury caused by Cd in common carp gills. Hence, in this study, we established a Cd poisoning model to explore whether excess Cd can induce apoptosis through observing histomorphology and apoptotic cells; and determining mineral elements, oxidative stress-related factors, immune-related, and apoptosis-related genes in common carp gills. Fifty-four fish were randomly separated into the control group and the Cd group and were cultured for 45 days.
