In addition, the combination of reFlgE with rePcrVNH, an engineered antigen we reported previously, provided elevated protection against PA infection. Our data demonstrate that FlgE is a promising vaccine candidate for PA and provide a new strategy for the efficient screening of antigens of other pathogens.Data on influenza vaccination status among household contacts of asthmatic children are lacking. Our aim was to assess the influenza vaccination status of parents and caregivers of asthmatic children in the 2018-2019 season as well as to identify reasons for undervaccination. We performed a questionnaire-based survey in parents, caregivers and household contacts of 178 asthmatic children. Only the 50.6% of children were vaccinated, while in 79.8% of cases both parents were unvaccinated. More than 40% of them reported that they were unaware about the necessity of vaccination; approximately 30% stated that they were not properly advised, and the rest were concerned about influenza vaccine side effects and effectiveness. Factor analysis identified three groups (a) influenza vaccine "believers" who were unaware that vaccination was necessary; (b) "deniers" who were less educated and with older children; (c) older and more educated vaccine "deniers". To improve influenza vaccine coverage among household contacts of asthmatic children, appropriate counseling and targeted interventions should be planned. The African Rotavirus Network organised the 12th African Rotavirus Symposium (ARS) from 30 July to 1 August 2019 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The symposium theme "A decade of rotavirus vaccination in Africa - Saving lives and changing the face of diarrhoeal diseases", included sessions aimed at sharing ideas and expertise on prevention and control of diarrhoeal disease in Africa. Inter alia, the delegates reviewed global and regional epidemiological trends on rotavirus diarrhoea, progress and experiences on rotavirus vaccine introduction, including vaccine safety monitoring and impact in Africa, scientific advances in developing newer rotavirus vaccines, surveillance and research on other diarrhoeal pathogens, and providing an enabling environment for networking. Importantly, the 12th ARS served to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the African Rotavirus Network (AfrRN) coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the South African Medical Research Council. Four oral, live-attenuated rotavirus vaccines are curration observed both geographically and temporally. There is currently no evidence to suggest that the emergence of rotavirus strains not included in the current vaccines do escape vaccine-induced immunity.Early anatomical evidence suggested that the paraventricular nucleus of the thalamus (PVT) regulates arousal, as well as emotional and motivated behaviors. We discuss recent studies using modern techniques which now confirm and expand the involvement of the rodent PVT in these functions. Despite the emerging notion that the PVT is implicated in various behavioral processes, a recurrent theme is that activity in this brain region depends on internal state information arriving from the hypothalamus and brainstem, and is influenced by prior experience. We propose that the primary function of the PVT is to detect homeostatic challenges by integrating information about prior experiences, competing needs, and internal state to guide adaptive behavioral responses aimed at restoring homeostasis.
The benefits of the physical exercise in aging, and specially in frailty, have been associated with reduced risk of mortality, chronic disease, and cognitive and functional impairments. Multi-component training, which combines strength, endurance, balance, and gait training, represents the most beneficial kind of physical exercise in older adults.
Given the effectiveness of the multi-component training, a physical exercise program «Actívate» (based on the methodology Vivifrail), with the focus on «active aging», was conducted in the present study. Forty-nine older adults over 60 years participated in this program.
The physical exercise intervention led to a reduction in diastolic blood pressure, pain threshold and sleep disturbances (e. g. hypersomnia) (t ≥ 2.72, p < 0.01), as well as an increase of walking speed (t = 7.84, p ≤ 0.001). this website Further, quality of life factors (GENCAT scale), like emotional well-being, personal development, physical well-being, self-determination, and social inclusion, were greater after intervention (t ≥ -2.06, p < 0.05).
These findings underline the benefits of multi-component training in functionality of older adults, and further, provide relevant aspects about the modulation of pain perception, sleep disturbances, social factors and physical and emotional well-being. Physical exercise programs such as «Actívate» should be promoted, in order to encourage healthy lifestyle habits, in the older adults' population.

This is surprising, because both of the two key modes of sexual selection, male-male competition and female choice, could plausibly operate during pollen-pistil interactions where physical male-female contact occurs. Here, we consider how the key processes of sexual selection might affect traits involved in pollen-pistil interactions, including 'Fisherian runaway' and 'good-genes' models. We review aspects of the molecular and cellular biology of pollen-pistil interactions on which sexual selection could act and point to research that is needed to investigate them.
