This has long been a source of controversy in the field and here we suggest a way to integrate arguments from both sides into a single unifying theory. Naphazoline Finally, we discuss the potential biotechnological uses of OSER as a tool for the nascent plant synthetic biology field with possible applications as a synthetic microdomain for metabolic engineering and as an extensive membrane surface for synthetic chemistry or protein accumulation.Knowledge about physiological stress thresholds provides crucial information about plant performance and survival under drought. In this study, we report on the triphasic nature of the relationship between plant water potential (Ψ) at predawn and midday and describe a method that predicts Ψ at stomatal closure and turgor loss exclusively from this water potential curve (WP curve). The method is based on a piecewise linear regression model that was developed to predict the boundaries (termed Θ1 and Θ2) separating the three phases of the curve and corresponding slope values. The method was tested for three economically important woody species. For all species, midday Ψ was much more negative than predawn Ψ during phase I (mild drought), reductions in midday Ψ were minor while predawn Ψ continued to decline during phase II (moderate drought), and midday and predawn Ψ reached similar values during phase III (severe drought). Corresponding measurement of leaf gas exchange indicated that boundary Θ1 between phases I and II coincided with Ψ at stomatal closure. Data from pressure-volume curves demonstrated that boundary Θ2 between phases II and III predicted Ψ at leaf turgor loss. The WP curve method described here is an advanced application of the Scholander-type pressure chamber to categorize plant dehydration under drought into three distinct phases and to predict Ψ thresholds of stomatal closure and turgor loss. While large-scale changes in population behaviour are required to reduce the transmission of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus, the emergency context is not conducive to the sort of careful communications planning that would normally be required to meet such a task. Rapid strategic communications planning in a pandemic by governments is, however, possible and necessary. Steps include setting up a dedicated communications task force, mobilising partners and resources, developing a creative brief and theory of change and overseeing the creation, testing, roll out and revision of content. In this short guide, we argue that a minimum of strategic planning can be undertaken rapidly, and that good use can be made of simple principles of behaviour change, even during pandemics. Our aim here is to provide a blueprint that governments and their partners, especially in low-income settings, can follow to design, coordinate and resource national communications efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic immediately and for the longer term.

Optimal breastfeeding practices have far-reaching health and economic benefits. Evidence suggests disparities in breastfeeding practices by maternal age-groups, with younger mothers often having lower rates of breastfeeding initiation, continuation and exclusivity compared with older mothers. There is limited knowledge of trends and factors associated with breastfeeding practices, particularly among adolescent and younger mothers in Nigeria. We examine key breastfeeding practices in Nigeria over a 15-year period, comparing adolescent mothers to young women.

We used four Nigeria Demographic and Health Surveys collected between 2003 and 2018. We constructed six key breastfeeding indicators to cover the time period of breastfeeding from initiation to child age 24 months in women of three maternal age groups at the time of birth young adolescents (<18 years), older adolescents (18-19.9 years) and young women (20-24.9 years). We used logistic regression to examine the association between maternal age group ps (Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri/Beriberi) and geographic regions (South East) that are lagging behind.

In Nigeria, there is need to better support breastfeeding and nutritional practices in adolescents and young women focusing on ethnic groups (Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri/Beriberi) and geographic regions (South East) that are lagging behind.

Rwanda has identified several targeted HIV prevention strategies, such as promotion of condom use and provision of antiretroviral therapy (ART) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for female sex workers (FSWs). Given this country's limited resources, understanding how the HIV epidemic will be affected by these strategies is crucial.

We developed a Markov model to estimate the effects of targeted strategies to FSWs on the HIV prevalence/incidence in Rwanda from 2017 to 2027. Our model consists of the six states HIV-; HIV+ undiagnosed/diagnosed pre-ART; HIV+ diagnosed with/without ART; and death. We considered three populations FSWs, sex clients and the general population. For the period 2017-2027, the HIV epidemic among each of these population was estimated using Rwanda's demographic, sexual risk behaviour and HIV-associated morbidity and mortality data.

Between 2017 and 2027, with no changes in the current condom and ART use, the overall number of people living with HIV is expected to increase from 344ting a targeted intervention strategy in PrEP for FSWs will reduce the HIV epidemic in this high-risk population. With the ability to noninvasively image and monitor molecular processes within tumors, molecular imaging represents a fundamental tool for cancer scientists. In the current review, we describe emergent optical technologies for molecular imaging. We aim to provide the reader with an overview of the fundamental principles on which each imaging strategy is based, to introduce established and future applications, and to provide a rationale for selecting optical technologies for molecular imaging depending on disease location, biology, and anatomy. To accelerate clinical translation of imaging techniques, we also describe examples of practical applications in patients. Elevating these techniques into standard-of-care tools will transform patient stratification, disease monitoring, and response evaluation.
