The model is compatible with data sets from several laboratory studies characterizing both prokaryotic and eukaryotic phytoplankton from marine and freshwater environments. In an on-going survey to uncover new or enhanced antimicrobial metabolite-producing microbes from harsh environments, such as oil-rich niches, 123 bacterial strains were isolated from three oil batteries in the region of Chauvin, Alberta, and characterized by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Based on their nucleotide sequences, the strains are associated with 3 phyla (Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria and Firmicutes), as well as 17 other discrete genera that shared high homology with known sequences, with the majority of these strains identified to the species level. The most prevalent strains associated with the three oil wells belonged to the Bacillus genus. Thirty-four of the 123 strains were identified as biosurfactant-producers, among which Bacillus methylotrophicus strain OB9 exhibited the highest bios When B. methylotrophicus 0B9 was used for bacterized lettuce, the growth of X. campestris B07.007, the causal agent of bacterial leaf spot of lettuce, was completely inhibited. While limited, these studies are noteworthy as they demonstrate the inhibition spectrum of B. methylotrophicus 0B9 against both human and plant pathogens; thereby making this bacterium attractive for agricultural and food safety applications in a climate where microbial-biofilm persistence is an increasing problem. The present study aimed to investigate the transgenerational effects of PCOS on the growth, reproduction, and metabolism of the first- and second-generation offspring in rats. Female F0 rats received excessive dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) exposure to establish PCOS or the same amount of vehicle as controls. These F0 females were crossed with normal males to obtain control (C) and DHEA (D) F1 offspring, whereas F2 offspring were obtained by inter-crossing between F1 rats for 4 groups (1) C♂-C♀; (2) D♂-C♀; (3) C♂-D♀ and (4) D♂-D♀. Compared with control groups, F1 and F2 offspring with ancestral DHEA exposure showed higher body weight with increasing age. In addition, female F1 and F2 offspring with ancestral DHEA exposure exhibited PCOS-like reproductive and metabolic phenotypes, including disrupted estrous cycles and polycystic ovaries, as well as increased serum levels of testosterone, impaired glucose tolerance and widespread metabolic abnormalities. Male offspring with ancestral DHEA exposure exhibited lower quality of sperms. These findings confirm the negative effects of excessive androgen exposure of female fetuses on subsequent generations. Feeding problems occur frequently in severe CHI but long-term persistence and rates of resolution have not been described. Methods All patients with CHI admitted to a specialist center during 2015-2016 were assessed for feeding problems at hospital admission and for three years following discharge, through a combination of specialist speech and language therapy review and parent-report at clinical contact. Results Twenty-five patients (18% of all patients admitted) with CHI were prospectively identified to have feeding problems related to sucking (n = 6), swallowing (n = 2), vomiting (n = 20), and feed aversion (n = 17) at the time of diagnosis. Sixteen (64%) patients required feeding support by nasogastric/gastrostomy tubes at diagnosis; tube feeding reduced to 4 (16%) patients by one year and 3 (12%) patients by three years. Feed aversion resolved slowly with mean time to resolution of 240 days after discharge; in 15 patients followed up for three years, 6 (24%) continued to report aversion. The mean time (days) to resolution of feeding problems was lower in those who underwent lesionectomy (n = 4) than in those who did not (30 vs. 590, p = 0.009) and significance persisted after adjustment for associated factors (p = 0.015). Conclusion Feeding problems, particularly feed aversion, are frequent in patients with CHI and require support over several years. By contrast, feeding problems resolve rapidly in patients with focal CHI undergoing curative lesionectomy, suggesting the association of feeding problems with hyperinsulinism. Hypersecreted catecholamines may result in myocardial injury via its direct toxic effect on cardiomyocytes or mediating vasoconstriction which will reduce coronary blood flow in this special setting. Interestingly, several case studies have reported the occurrence of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction in patients with pheochromocytoma crisis. However, no one found the angiographic evidence of occlusive thrombus in the infarct-related coronary artery. Additionally, pheochromocytoma can induce hypercoagulability and promote thrombosis, but spontaneous coronary thrombosis has never been reported in this condition. Here, we report an unusual case of pheochromocytoma crisis presenting with STEMI due to spontaneous coronary thrombosis. Methods The data of this study were derived from the Thyroid Disease, Iodine status, and Diabetes National epidemiological (TIDE) survey from all 31 provinces of mainland China. A total of 17,964 euthyroid subjects including 5,802 males (4,000 with TPOAb-TgAb- and 1,802 with TPOAb+/TgAb+) and 12,162 females (8,000 with TPOAb-TgAb- and 4,162 with TPOAb+/TgAb+) were enrolled in this study. The blood glucose and lipid levels were compared between individuals with TPOAb-TgAb- and those with TPOAb+TgAb-, TPOAb-TgAb+, TPOAb+TgAb+. Results Both fasting blood glucose (FBG) concentration and the proportion of individuals with impaired FBG (IFG) showed the decreased trends in TPOAb-TgAb+ males as compared with TPOAb-TgAb- men.
