The field of health professions education research draws inspiration from many disciplines, creating a dynamic socio-cultural context that is replete with contests over research rigour and quality. These knowledge politics are never definitively resolved. Thus, an important question that any graduate program established within the field has to contend with is what should constitute expertise in HPER. In this paper we explore interrelated contextual, conceptual and procedural dimensions of expertise to substantiate our suggestions for a core curriculum for graduate students in health professions education. We argue that an expert in health professions education research should have both an appreciation of when knowledge politics are relevant to their research process as part of their procedural knowledge and also an awareness of why these politics can affect their work as part of their conceptual knowledge.Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived cardiomyocytes (CMs) hold great promise for the repair of the injured heart, but optimal cell production in a fully chemically defined and cost-effective system is essential for the efficacy and safety of cell transplantation therapies. In this study, we provided a simple and efficient strategy for cardiac differentiation from hPSCs and performed functional evaluation in a rat model of myocardial infarction. Using a chemically defined medium including four components, recombinant human albumin, ascorbic acid, human transferrin, and RPMI 1640, we developed a manageable and cost-effective protocol for robust generation of CMs from hPSCs. BMN 673 clinical trial Interestingly, the addition of transferrin helped hPSCs to transit from TeSR-E8 medium to the simple cardiac differentiation medium and successfully initiated mesoderm differentiation without significant cell death. The CM generation efficiency was up to 85% based on cTnT expression. We performed transcriptome profiling from differentiation day 0 to 35, and characterized interesting dynamic change of cardiac genes. CMs derived from transferrin-supplemented simple medium have similar transcriptome and the maturation level compared to those generated in B27 minus insulin medium as well as their in vivo counterparts. Importantly, after transplantation, hPSC-derived CMs survived in the infarcted rat heart, significantly improved the physiological function and reduced fibrosis. Our study offers an easy-to-use and cost-effective method for cardiac differentiation and facilitates the translational application of hPSC-derived CMs for heart repair.A nanorod-like structured CoMoO4 embedded on boron doped-graphitic carbon nitride composite (CoMoO4/BCN) has been developed by a simple sonochemical method for electrochemical detection of furazolidone (FUZ). Interestingly, the impedance of CoMoO4/BCN fabricated screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) possesses a lower resistance charge transfer (Rct), which favors superior electrochemical detection of FUZ. Such CoMoO4/BCN/SPCE exhibits an ultralow detection limit of 1.6 nM with a concentration range of 0.04-408.9 μM, and high sensitivity of 11.6 μA μM-1 cm-2 by DPV method. In addition, biological and water samples were used for demonstration of practical application of CoMoO4/BCN/SPCE towards electrochemical detection of FUZ, and the result exhibits a satisfactory recovery.Graphical abstract.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of fractional CO

laser to manage vulvar and vaginal symptoms of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) in postmenopausal women.

All postmenopausal women with symptoms of GSM undergoing fractional CO

laser treatment in our centers were asked to fill out a validated quality of life questionnaire (Global Quality of Life Questionnaire), Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for symptoms, a questionnaire on overall discomfort related to pelvic floor symptoms, and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) at several points before each session (three sessions at monthly intervals) and one 3months after treatment completion. Statistical analysis compared pre-therapy data and data at 3months of treatment.

Forty-six women were included with a mean age of 57.3years (± 11.1years). A significant improvement was demonstrated in vaginal dryness (p = 6.34 10

) and for symptoms of stress urinary incontinence (p = 0.043). Among sexually active patients, there was a significant improvement in the degree of symptom discomfort affecting their satisfaction (p = 0.007), dyspareunia (p = 0.001) and sensitivity during sexual intercourse (p = 0.001). Significantly, more women were able to achieve (p = 0.026) and maintain (p = 0.018) lubrication during intercourse.

CO

laser treatment seems to improve the quality of life and sexual health of patients as well as GSM symptoms at 3months of treatment; long-term reevaluation is necessary to demonstrate that improvement persists over time.

A systematic review was conducted to examine if shivering had any value in diagnosing serious bacterial infection. We split our population (0-18 years old) into two categories depending on the presence of a known malignancy. The databases of Medline, Embase, Cinahl, and Web of Science were searched from inception until July 2019. The quality was assessed with the QUADAS-2 tool. Two by two tables were created, extracting the number of true positive (TP), true negative (TN), false positive (FP), and false negative (FN) regarding shivering and SBI, by 2 authors independently. Sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratios, and their 95% confidence intervals were calculated using the MetaDATA Shiny app. In a population with known malignancy, we found a +LR of 3.47 (95% CI 2.58-4.36) for a serious bacterial infection when shivering was present, implying an increase of 25-30% possibility for a serious bacterial infection.
