denticola overlapped between participant cohorts. Phylogenomic analysis revealed considerable interhost but limited intrahost diversity, suggesting patient-specific lineages in the lower airways, probably from oral cavity aspirations. Correlation of phenotypic AMR profiles with AMR genes identified excellent correlation between tetQ presence and decreased doxycycline susceptibility, and ermF presence and decreased azithromycin susceptibility and clindamycin resistance. AMR rates were higher in the CF isolates, reflecting greater antibiotic use in this cohort. All tested Prevotella isolates were tobramycin-resistant, providing a potential selection method to improve Prevotella culture retrieval rates. Our addition of 35 airway-derived Prevotella genomes to public databases will enhance ongoing efforts to unravel the role of this diverse and enigmatic genus in both diseased and healthy lungs. With the relatively rapid development of the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine development has become crucial for limiting disease transmission. The accelerated growth in the approved COVID-19 vaccines has sparked concerns about their efficacies which have been assessed by many studies. This systematic review compares the efficacy and effectiveness of seven COVID-19 vaccines. A comprehensive systematic literature search was performed using several databases to identify studies reporting the effectiveness or the efficacy of the vaccines. Only 42 studies met our inclusion criteria, which revealed that the COVID-19 vaccines have successfully reduced the rates of infections, severity, hospitalization, and mortality among the different populations. The full-dose regimen of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is the most effective against infections with the B.1.1.7 and B.1.351 variants. Despite of the high effectiveness of some of the COVID-19 vaccines, more efforts are required to test their effectiveness against the other newly emerging variants.

To report a case of unilateral disc swelling as the only presentation of enterovirus meningitis in a 43-year-old male who presented with reduction in visual quality.

Vision was 20/20 unaided in both eyes and the only ocular finding was left optic disc edema accompanied by left relative afferent pupillary defect. Visual field examination revealed a generalized reduction in sensitivity, a paracentral scotoma and a superior and inferior arcuate defect. Apart from a marginally elevated white blood cell count, the evaluation for common diseases associated with unilateral disc swelling was negative. A comprehensive neurology and rheumatology assessment, the orbital, brain and cervical spine Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), the chest and abdomen Computed Tomography (CT) and chest radiograph had no findings. However, the cerebrosipinal fluid (CSF) examination indicated the presence of enterovirus RNA.

A diagnosis of enterovirus meningitis was established.Patient's general health was not affected and symptoms gradually settled, with no specific anti-enteroviral treatment.

Only the CSF analysis provided interesting evidence of the site of the visual dysfunction.

This study aimed to evaluate various factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine intention among medical students via an online anonymous survey. A total of 370 students completed the online survey, with 229 (61.89%) not vaccinated for COVID-19. Of students not yet vaccinated, 45 (19.65%) were unsure or did not intend to accept the vaccine, while 184 (80.35%) intend to be vaccinated within 6 months. Overall, female gender, health status, clinical science enrollment, and the practice of COVID-19 preventative behaviors significantly correlated with the intention to be vaccinated within 6 months. Greater perceived risk for contracting COVID-19, lesser beliefs that the COVID-19 vaccination trials were rushed, and greater beliefs that being vaccinated would help complete their medical education were uniquely associated with the intention to be vaccinated within 6 months. Collectively, this study identified several factors that influenced medical students' intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. This information may be used in future immunization strategies to increase the vaccination rates among this group of future medical professionals. Objectives This literature review seeks to identify based on the current literature how the burden of disease for IBD patients manifests itself as this cohort transitions simultaneously from pediatric to adult care and from secondary to post-secondary education. Methods This paper reviews the current literature regarding postsecondary students with IBD and provides a summary of research regarding key factors in their quality of experience. The research was conducted through databases including Taylor & Francis, PubMed, as well as searches via Google Scholar. Results Over the course of this search, thirty-three relevant studies were identified. These studies addressed the themes outlined in this paper, including academic performance, social adaptation, transition of care, as well as overall transition to a postsecondary institution. Each of these is further broken down to identify specific determinants of IBD student experience. MK-8245 SCD inhibitor Conclusions Although students with IBD can demonstrate resilience and adaptive behavior, the evidence suggests there are significant limitations impacting their perceived experience. The barriers IBD students face impact their ability to experience postsecondary education as they intend to, forcing them to adjust in adaptive or maladaptive manners. This review also attempts to generate possible solutions to specific barriers identified from current research, generating directions of action for students, physicians, and academic supports.Moral injury is a soul struggle for many veterans. It includes a deep sense of regret, shame, and division within themselves due to morally injurious events. Spiritual practices like Centering Prayer are complementary disciplines that help veterans heal from moral injury and process embedded trauma, guilt, and shame. Contemplative practices can help with acceptance of difficult emotions and thoughts connected to past moral injury and help veterans refocus on values that are part of their community, faith, and social backgrounds. At the Loveland VA, a group of veterans are following the guidelines outlined by Contemplative Outreach for a Centering Prayer practice. The guidelines and the intended outcomes are outlined in this paper and include previously researched benefits of mindfulness and meditation-based practices for PTSD, which often co-occurs with moral injury. Veterans' feedback from both in-person and online versions of the Centering Prayer group are included in the paper. While encouraged as an individual discipline, veterans are also encouraged to practice Centering Prayer within groups at the VA or in the community for deeper inter-relational healing and trust. Veteran peer supports provide links to Contemplative Prayer outreach groups as well as AA groups in the community. As a mindfulness-based spiritual practice with Judeo-Christian roots, Centering Prayer is a powerful addition to a chaplaincy program that promotes whole health healing and growth. Objective This study examined the disruptions to social life, financial impact, and academic concerns caused by COVID-19 experienced by first-year college students, as well as their associations with depressive symptoms over time. Participants and Methods Five hundred and thirty freshman college students completed an online survey at baseline and 14-week follow-up. Results We found that female students reported greater COVID-19 academic concerns than males. Black students endorsed lower COVID-19 academic concerns and Latinx students reported greater negative COVID-19 financial impact compared to other ethnic groups. First-generation college students reported greater negative COVID-19 financial impact than domestic students. COVID-19 academic concerns and negative social and financial impacts were associated with greater depressive symptoms at baseline. However, only COVID-19 academic concerns were associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms over time. Conclusions Findings suggest that the academic, social, and financial disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have negative mental health consequences that should be addressed in research and university settings.Mushrooms are bioaccumulators and have been used to produce Se-enriched foods. However, these fungi can also bioaccumulate potentially toxic metals, producing food dangerous to human health. It is known that co-exposure to Se plays a protective role against metal accumulation and toxicity in some organisms due to its antioxidant properties. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of Se(IV) and Se(VI) on elemental uptake and accumulation as well as proteins and protein-bound Se, Cd, and Pb distribution in Pleurotus mushrooms. Pink oyster and white oyster mushrooms showed high ability to bioaccumulate Se (19-205 µg g-1), Cd (4.5 to 18.8 µg g-1), and Pb (1.6 to 7.0 µg g-1). Growth substrate supplementation with Se(IV) or Se(VI) decreased the Cd total concentration in mushrooms by 4 to 89%, while Se(VI) increased the Pb total concentration by 9% to 187%, compared to growth in absence of Se. It was found that despite molecular weights distributions of mushrooms grown on Se(IV) and Se(VI)-supplemented substrates being similar, Se(VI) supplementation favoured Se interaction with proteins of medium molecular weight (17-44 kDa), when compared to supplementation with Se(IV). Therefore, we propose the supplementation of growth substrates with Se(VI) to reduce eventual Cd accumulation and produce Se-enriched oyster mushrooms.Health awareness campaigns educate and inform the public about particular health conditions with the aim of either changing behavior or enhancing uptake of appropriate healthcare, such as vaccination or screening. The campaigns may be run by governments and public health bodies but are also deployed by biopharmaceutical companies. Industry-sponsored disease awareness (DA) campaigns intend to provide information about diseases and their prevention or treatment, without mentioning specific products. In most countries, DA campaigns fall outside of the laws and regulations that apply to promotion of medicines. Currently, guidance for industry is limited and only exists at national level. This article provides an overview of existing guidance on DA campaigns, discusses benefits and risks, and proposes recommendations for industry-sponsored vaccination awareness campaigns. Objective Study uses qualitative data to examine help-seeking decisions as well as the drivers and barriers to utilization of university-based victim services through the accounts of survivors. Participants The current study involves the analysis of 33 semi-structured interviews that were conducted with dating and sexual violence (DSV) survivors at a large, Mid-Atlantic University who both did and did not utilize university-based victim services. Methods Data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. Results Analysis shows that while survivors of DSV undergo a process of help-seeking that is similar to those described in previous help-seeking models, there are additional factors that contribute to a reluctancy to seek services at a university-based victim services center in particular that must be accounted for in the literature. Conclusions The findings from the current study underscore the importance of understanding the specific drivers and barriers to utilization of university-based victim services.
