During a health emergency such as the current COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic, immediate access to validated information is of utmost importance. Unfortunately, unverified, unreliable, and speculative information flows at an unprecedented rate in today's world, leading to an "infodemic." In such a scenario, Indian states have used telephone-based health helplines to provide an effective channel for the provision of validated, accurate, and up-to-date information. We analyzed the utilization of these helplines for providing COVID-19-related information and the profile of callers handled by these helplines across 8 states of India. These helplines received more than 6.4 million calls over a period of 6 months. The volume of calls mirrored key announcements and events taking place in India as a response to the pandemic, such as the nation-wide lockdown, extension of lockdown, and so on. Nearly three quarters of the callers belonged to the economically productive age group of 20 to 59 years. The majority of the callers were males across all 8 states. The proportion of female callers was lowest in Bihar and highest in the small, hill state of Sikkim.
Internal fixation of an osteochondral lesion of the talus (OLT) can restore the congruency of the talus and maintain the subchondral bone and innate hyaline cartilage. However, OLT that is indicated for fixation is rarely encountered; hence, not many studies report on the results after the procedure.
To evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes after internal fixation of chronic OLT involving a large bone fragment of at least 10 mm in diameter and 3 mm in depth on computed tomography (CT).
Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
We retrospectively reviewed the data of 26 patients with OLT treated with internal fixation between August 2014 and April 2018. Of the patients, 15 were male and 11 were female, with a mean age of 16 years (range, 11-29 years). The primary radiological outcome measurement was bone union assessed on the 6-month postoperative CT scan. Clinical outcomes were assessed at a mean of 27.7 months postoperatively.
Twenty patients (77%) achieved bone union on postoperative CT scan. Ttients with skeletally immature and mature ankles attained healing at comparable rates after the internal fixation of OLT.
Internal fixation of an OLT involving a large bone fragment resulted in satisfactory clinical and radiologic outcomes. selleck kinase inhibitor We found that patients with skeletally immature and mature ankles attained healing at comparable rates after the internal fixation of OLT.
Many youth athletes focus on 1 sport to gain a competitive advantage, but early sport specialization may increase risk of overuse injuries and burnout. College athletes have successfully achieved advanced status; therefore, the study of their specialization patterns is a method to assess how specialization affects an athletic career.
To determine trends in sport specialization by sex, sport, and decade of participation in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes and assess the effect of specialization on scholarship attainment, injury, and attrition.
Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.
An electronic survey was distributed to NCAA athletes who participated from 1960 to 2018. Survey topics included sex, sport, decade of participation, scholarship status, ≥30-day time-loss injuries sustained in college, orthopaedic surgery in college, career length, and age of single-sport specialization. Early specialization was defined as specialization in a single sport before age 15 years. Rates of eaus decades (
= .036). Scholarship attainment was overall equivalent between groups. Time-loss injuries, lower extremity injuries, and orthopaedic surgery in college were not statistically different between groups. Career lengths were similar, but burnout was more common among early specialization athletes (10.5% vs 7.0%; odds ratio, 3.76;
< .01).
Less than one-fifth of NCAA athletes surveyed specialized before age 15 years, and neither scholarship attainment nor time-loss injury rate was affected by early specialization. Early specialization is on the rise but is associated with increased burnout.

Calcific tendinitis of the rotator cuff is a frequent cause of shoulder pain. Ultrasound-guided percutaneous lavage (UGPL) is an effective treatment, but factors associated with good clinical and radiological outcomes still need to be identified.
To study the clinical, procedural, and radiological characteristics associated with improved shoulder function and the disappearance of calcification on radiograph after UGPL.
Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3.
This is a post hoc analysis of the CALCECHO trial, a double-blinded randomized controlled trial conducted on 132 patients. The trial assessed the effect of corticosteroid injections after UGPL, and patients were randomly assigned to receive either corticosteroid or saline solution in the subacromial bursa. We analyzed all patients included in the randomized controlled trial as 1 cohort. We collected the patients' clinical, procedural, and radiological characteristics at baseline and during follow-up (3, 6, and 12 months). Univariable analysis, ffication resorption and good clinical outcome was found at each time point.
Assessing patients at 3 months seems to be an essential part of their management strategy. Calcium extraction and creating a communication between the calcific deposits and subacromial bursa are procedural characteristics associated with good clinical and radiological evolution.

Skeletal muscle injuries represent a major concern in sports medicine. Cell therapy has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for muscle injuries, although the preclinical data are still inconclusive and the potential clinical use of cell therapy has not yet been established.
To evaluate the effects of muscle precursor cells (MPCs) on muscle healing in a small animal model.
Controlled laboratory study.
A total of 27 rats were used in the study. MPCs were isolated from rat (n = 3) medial gastrocnemius muscles and expanded in primary culture. Skeletal muscle injury was induced in 24 rats, and the animals were assigned to 3 groups. At 36 hours after injury, animals received treatment based on a single ultrasound-guided MPC (10
cells) injection (Cells group) or MPC injection in combination with 2 weeks of daily exercise training (Cells+Exercise group). Animals receiving intramuscular vehicle injection were used as controls (Vehicle group). Muscle force was determined 2 weeks after muscle injury, and muscles were collected for histological and immunofluorescence evaluation.
