Semiconductor nanowires have been playing a crucial role in the development of nanoscale devices for the realization of spin qubits, Majorana fermions, single photon emitters, nanoprocessors, etc. The monolithic growth of site-controlled nanowires is a prerequisite toward the next generation of devices that will require addressability and scalability. Here, combining top-down nanofabrication and bottom-up self-assembly, the growth of Ge wires on prepatterned Si (001) substrates with controllable position, distance, length, and structure is reported. This is achieved by a novel growth process that uses a SiGe strain-relaxation template and can be potentially generalized to other material combinations. Transport measurements show an electrically tunable spin-orbit coupling, with a spin-orbit length similar to that of III-V materials. Also, charge sensing between quantum dots in closely spaced wires is observed, which underlines their potential for the realization of advanced quantum devices. The reported results open a path toward scalable qubit devices using nanowires on silicon. © 2020 The Authors. Published by WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Here, a newly developed size-changeable collagenase-modified polymer micelle is employed to enhance the penetration and retention of nanomedicine in deep tumor tissue. The TCPPB micelle is first formed by self-assembly of maleimide-terminated poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(β-amino ester) (MAL-PEG-PBAE) and succinic anhydride-modified cisplatin-conjugated poly(ε-caprolactone)-block-poly(ethylene oxide)-triphenylphosphonium (CDDP-PCL-PEO-TPP). Next, Col-TCPPB NPs are prepared through a "click" chemical combination of thiolated collagenase and maleimide groups on TCPPB micelle. Daclatasvir Finally, biocompatible chondroitin sulfate (CS) is coated to obtain CS/Col-TCPPB NPs for avoiding collagenase inactivation in blood circulation. In tumor acidic microenvironment, the hydrophobic PBAE segments of the resultant micelles become hydrophilic, leading to a dissociation and subsequent dissolution of partial collagenase-containing components (Col-PEG-PBAE) from NPs. The dissolved Col-PEG-PBAE promotes the digestion of collagen fibers in tumor tissue like a scavenger, which enhances the NPs penetration. Simultaneously, the increased hydrophilicity of residual Col-PEG-PBAE in the micellar matrix causes an expansion of the NPs, resulting in an enhanced intratumoral retention. In tumor cells, the NPs target to release the cisplatin drugs into mitochondria, achieving an excellent anticancer efficacy. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Two enantiomers exhibit distinct pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic behaviors. Current progress in drug designing has resulted in the ability to understand the role of chirality in modern therapeutics. Furthermore, with a greater understanding of the molecular structure of precise drug targets, development of new drugs is directed towards the pure enantiomers instead of its racemates. The present review deals with a discussion on the stereochemical facets of chiral clinical β-blockers. This review provides details of stereo-selectivity in the pharmacological behavior of some of β-blockers and their metabolites. An effort has been made on highlighting the distinction between the therapeutic behavior of the racemic mixtures and pure enantiomers. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Bilateral failure of the kidneys to ascend during embryonic life may lead to fusion of the two renal masses, resulting in a round mass known as pancake kidney. Reviewing the literature, we did not encounter any reports of prenatal diagnosis of pancake kidneys. We present 6 cases of a pancake kidney diagnosed prenatally. Extrarenal associated anomalies included an aberrant right subclavian artery, nonvisualization of the uterus, consistent with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome, and a sequence of early-onset growth restriction, hypospadias, and syndactyly, suspected as Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome. On postnatal follow-up, all infants had a normal renal outcome. © 2020 by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Two novel helical poly(phenylacetylene) derivatives containing chiral phenylethyl carbamate residues in the end of each side chain (PPA-S and PPA-R) were synthesized by polymerization of the corresponding phenylacetylene monomers using Rh(nbd)BPh4 as a catalyst in DMF. The enantioseparation properties of the polymers were evaluated as coated-type chiral stationary phases (CSPs) for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Under the same chromatographic conditions, PPA-S and PPA-R showed different enantioseparation properties, indicating that the different interactions between the analytes and the polymers, which result from the different chiral phenylethyl carbamate groups in the end of each side chains. Racemates 1, 7, and 8 could be better resolved on PPA-S, while racemate 6 was separated on PPA-R more efficiently. In addition, the coated-type CSPs showed good solvent tolerability and could work without any damage by introducing the polar solvents, such as CHCl3 and THF, in eluent. Moreover, some racemates could be better resolved on these coated-type CSPs with the addition of THF to the eluent. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.AIM Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious complication following orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and it affects long-term patient survival. The aims of this study were to identify the effects of cumulative fluid balance (FB) on early post-OLT AKI and adverse outcomes and to construct a model to predict AKI. METHODS We retrospectively analysed 146 adult patients who underwent OLT. AKI severity was classified according to the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) criteria. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the association between cumulative FB and post-OLT AKI. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the survival rate. RESULTS Within the perioperative period of 72 hours, 50% (66/132) of patients developed AKI, with 36 (54%), 16 (24%) and 14 (21%) patients having AKI stages 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The cumulative FB was the risk factors for post-OLT AKI (odds ratio [OR], 1.011; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.156~6.001; P = .021). Preoperative albumin was a protective factor for post-OLT AKI (OR, 0.
