Malaria has a negative impact on the activities of companies in endemic countries especially in Cameroon. In this regard, an increasingly growing number of companies have started to include management of malarious patients in their health policies. In the present study, we will evaluate the diagnostic performances of a fluorescence microscopy (FM), Cyscope® microscope, in the detection of malaria parasites.

A cross-sectional study was conducted among employees of two companies of the town of Douala on 21 and 22 March 2017. Sociodemographic information of employees was collected using a questionnaire form. ECC5004 concentration Blood samples of ~ 10 μL were collected by venipuncture for the diagnosis of malaria using FM and light microscopy (LM). Performances of FM with respect to sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), positive and negative predictive values (PPV and NPV), positive and negative likelihood rates (PLR and NLR), accuracy, reliability, and Kappa index were calculated using LM as gold standard.

In total, 442 employees diagnostic tool could be used in management of malaria at workplace.

This study showed good performances of Cyscope® microscope and outlines that this diagnostic tool could be used in management of malaria at workplace.Using data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing study (n = 1,553), the present study examined whether father involvement and co-parenting quality mediated the association between union instability (number of residential romantic partner changes) over the first 5 years of life and children's externalizing problem behaviors (EPB) at 5 years. The results indicate that only co-parenting support mediated the association between union instability and children's EPB, controlling for known covariates of children's EPB. The findings suggest that the union instability associated with romantic partner transitions has a deleterious effect on children's behaviors because the change in union status decreases the quality of the co-parenting relationship.Previous studies demonstrated that the pathophysiological changes after temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) such as oxidative stress, inflammatory reaction contribute to cognitive defect and neuronal damage. The present study was conducted to evaluate the anticonvulsant effect of wogonin ameliorates kainate-induced TLE, and to investigate the mechanism underlying these effects. Rats were divided into control, wogonin, kainate, and wogonin-pretreated kainate groups. The rat model of TLE was induced by unilateral intrahippocampal injection of 0.4 ug/ul of kainate. The results showed that the cognitive function in TLE rats was significantly impaired, and wogonin treatment improved cognitive function in the Morris water maze (MWM). H & E staining and TUNEL staining showed obvious damage in the hippocampus of TLE rats, and wogonin alleviated the damage. To evaluate the oxidative stress, the expression of MDA and GSH in plasma were detected. Nrf-2 and HO-1 mRNA expression in the hippocampus were detected. The levels of MDA in plasma increased in TLE rats, and the levels of GSH in plasma and Nrf-2, HO-1 in the brain decreased. Treatment with wogonin alleviated these changes. We also detected the mRNA expression of inflammatory mediators like IL-1β, TNF-α, and NF kB in the brain. The inflammatory reaction was significantly activated in the brain of TLE rats, and wogonin alleviated neuroinflammation. We detected the mRNA expression of Bcl-2, Bax, caspase-3, in the hippocampus. The levels of Bcl-2 decreased in TLE rats, Bax and caspase-3 increased, while wogonin alleviated these changes. The present study indicated that wogonin exerted a noticeable neuroprotective effect in kainate-induced TLE rats. The conventional approaches for treating bone defects such as autografts donor tissue shortages and allografts transmission of diseases pose many shortcomings. The objective of this study was to design a nano strontium/magnesium doped hydroxyapatite (Sr/Mg-HA) with chitosan (CTS) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) (Sr/Mg-HA/MWCNT/CTS) biocomposite was created to support the growth of osteoblasts using a solvent evaporation method. To help the growth of osteoblasts, a solvent evaporation technique was used to design a nano strontium/magnesium doped hydroxyapatite with chitosan and multi-walled carbon nanotubes biocomposite. We studied the biocompatibility and efficiency in vitro of biocomposite following physicochemical analyzes. Tests of biocompatibility, cell proliferation, mineralization, and osteogenic differentiation have shown that in-vitro safety and effectiveness of biocomposite are good. The performance of biocomposite was more efficient in in-vitro as well as in vivo experiments than in Sr/Mg-HA nanoparticles. Briefly, the Sr/Mg-HA/MWCNT/CTS biocomposite is an ideal candidate for effective bone repair in clinics with excellent mechanical properties with durable multi-biofunctional antibacterial properties and osteoinductivity.

To observe the differentiation of macrophages in lung tissue and alveolar lavage fluid of mice with severe pulmonary infection and the changes after intervention with ceftriaxone and ulinastatin, and to explore the pathogenesis of severe pulmonary infection under immunosuppressive state and the intervention effect of two drugs.

40 male Balb/c mice are randomly divided into normal group, model group, ulinastatin group, and ceftriaxone group with 10 mice in each group. Mice models of acute lung injury with immunodeficiency are established by methylprednisolone and endotoxin, and then treated with ulinastatin and ceftriaxone. Respiratory frequencies of mice in each group are measured at 3h and 6h after drug use through trachea, and then the mice are anaesthetized with uratan and killed 6h after drug use. The number of alveolar macrophages and neutrophils in alveolar lavage fluid is collected and detected, and the pathological changes are observed. The positive expression of CD163 in lung tissue is detected bh inhibiting M1 macrophages and regulating non-specific immune function.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the hepatic disorders which is characterized by increasing fat deposits in the liver. This disorder may lead to elevation the activity of liver enzymes and is associated with obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and type II diabetes. The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of

extract on NAFLD patients compare to placebo.

The present clinical trial was performed on 42 NAFLD patients who were randomly divided into two groups. The case group received a capsule (750mg) containing hydro-alcoholic extract of

extract every 12h for 2months, while the control (placebo) group received a capsule containing cellulose. Baseline characteristics, biochemical factors, antioxidant parameter, functional liver and renal test were evaluated before and after the treatment.

Comparison rate of different parameters in case group before and after treatment demonstrated that BMI, cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-C, fasting blood glucose, liver enzymes and renal parameters such as aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase were significantly decreased while HDL-C, glutathione peroxidase enzyme, and total antioxidant capacity were significantly elevated.
