The child's proxy VAS rating accounted for 21% and 18% of the variance in the caregiver's VAS score at baseline and 24 hours, respectively, which was higher than self-reported problems on the caregivers EQ-5D-3L dimensions. Conclusion The health of the caregiver is reported to improve as the perceived health of the child improves. The proxy rating of the child's health influences the caregiver's self-reported health more than their reported problems on the EQ-5D-3L. Clinical implications Improving the HRQoL of the child will lead to improved HRQoL in the caregiver. selleck © 2020. Owing to a lack of consensus among clinicians and researchers, the causes and management of AKP remain controversial. Objectives The aim of this study was to map the range of non-surgical and non-pharmaceutical rehabilitation approaches to AKP among runners. Method A scoping review was conducted in five stages (1) defining the research question, (2) identifying relevant studies, (3) selecting a topic, (4) charting and collecting data and (5) summarising and reporting the results. Included in the study were English original articles on AKP rehabilitation strategies for runners prior to November 2019. Six electronic databases were searched EBSCOHOST, CINAHL, SPORTDISCUS, PUBMED, COCHRANE and SCOPUS. Results Thirteen out of 1334 articles met the inclusion criteria. Two reviewers independently participated in the screening and extraction of articles. The identified articles included four randomised controlled trials, one systematic review, four observational studies, one cohort study, two case studies and one quasi-experimental study. The following rehabilitation strategies were found to be useful education, gait re-education, exercise, foot orthoses and multimodal rehabilitation. Conclusion This study provided a range of rehabilitation strategies that were found useful in the rehabilitation of AKP. More comprehensive intervention studies are needed to address all physical and non-physical features of AKP. Clinical implications The outcomes of this study make explicit the usefulness of the identified rehabilitation strategies among runners with AKP. These will guide clinicians in the development of rehabilitation programmes for runners. © 2020. The Authors. Background Cognitive factors impact chronic pain, but the prevalence of fear avoidance (FA) and pain catastrophising (PC) in individuals suffering from chronic neck pain (CNP) has not been investigated in South Africa. Objectives To determine the prevalence of FA and PC in patients with CNP at private physiotherapy practices in Johannesburg. Method The Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11) (α = 0.80) and Pain Catastrophising Scale (α = 0.87) self-report questionnaires were used in a cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of FA and PC, respectively. Descriptive statistics and correlations using Pearson's or Spearman's coefficient were conducted between demographic variables and FA and PC. Non-parametric data were tested using the Wilcoxon rank-sum or Kruskal-Wallis test. Cohen's d-value or r-value measured strength of associations. Results A sample of 106 CNP patients with a mean age of 48.7 years (± 14.8) from 25 randomly selected private practices participated in the study. Of the participants, 81% were women (n = 86). Fear avoidance and PC had a prevalence of 25.5% (n = 27) and 15.1% (n = 16), respectively. A positive correlation was found between FA-11-Total and PC-Total (r = 0.684; p = 0.0001) and between FA (TSK-11-Total and TSK-SF (somatic focus)) and PC and its subscales (r ≥ 0.602; p = 0.0001). Participants with a secondary education (26.0 ± 3.4) showed a higher FA than those with tertiary education (21.9 ± 1.5). Effect size was moderate (Cohen's d = 0.60). Pain intensity correlated positively with both FA (Pearson's correlation r = 0.33; p = 0.001) and PC (Spearman's correlation; r = 0.39; p = 0.0001). Conclusion FA and PC affect a number of patients with CNP. A lower level of education was associated with FA and a higher pain intensity was associated with higher FA and PC. Clinical implications Identifying FA and PC in patients with CNP is important to facilitate holistic management. © 2020. SUMMARY ANSWER Measures of validity were strong for the majority of variables evaluated while those with moderate agreement were FSH levels, oocyte origin and elective single embryo transfer. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Health databases and registries are excellent sources of data. However, as these databases are typically not established for the primary purpose of performing research, they should be evaluated prior to utilization for research both to inform the study design and to determine the extent to which key study variables, such as patient characteristics or therapies provided, are accurately documented in the database. CARTR Plus is Canada's national register for collecting extensive information on IVF and corresponding pregnancy outcomes, and it has yet to be validated. SUMMARY ANSWER Pelvic ultrasound is highly reproducible for the detection of pelvic endometriotic lesions. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) has been widely adopted as the first-line assessment for the diagnosis and assessment of pelvic endometriosis. Severity of endometriosis as assessed by ultrasound has been shown to have good concordance with laparoscopy (kappa 0.79). The reproducibility of TVS for assessment of ovarian mobility and pouch of Douglas obliteration using the 'sliding sign' has already been described in the literature. However, there is no available data in the literature to demonstrate the intraobserver repeatability of measurements for endometriotic cysts and nodules. STUDY DESIGN SIZE DURATION This was a prospective observational cross-sectional study conducted over a period of 12 months. We included 50 consecutive women who were all examined by two operators (A and B) during their clinic attendance.
