This article is an insight into interdisciplinary topics in the field of civil engineering, morphology, architecture, mechanics, and computer programming. A novel method for shaping unconventional complex roofs in which regular folded units transformed into various shells are used as a complex substitute material is proposed. The original method's algorithm for building systems of planes defining diversified polyhedral networks in the three-dimensional space by means of division coefficients of the subsequently determined vertices is presented. The algorithm is based on the proportions between the lengths of the edges of the reference network, the location and shape of the ruled shell units included in the designed complex roof structure, so it is intuitive. The shell units are made up of nominally flat folded sheets transformed effectively into shell forms whose static-strength properties are controlled by geometric quantities characteristic of ruled surfaces. The presented original approach to the shaping of the shell roof structures determining specific complex building forms allows us to go beyond the limitations related to the orthotropic structure of the folded roof sheeting and the shape transformations.Fatigue is still present in up to 40-50% of kidney transplant recipients (KTR), the results of studies comparing the prevalence among patients on hemodialysis (HD) and KTR led to conflicting results. Fatigue correlates include inflammation, symptoms of depression, sleep disorders and obesity. Fatigue in KTR leads to significant functional impairment, it is common among KTR poorly adherent to immunosuppressive therapy and is associated with a serious deterioration of quality of life. The following databases were searched for relevant studies up to November 2020 Medline, PubMed, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library. Several studies have compared the prevalence and severity of fatigue between KTR and hemodialysis or healthy patients. Lartesertib ATM inhibitor They have shown that fatigue determines a significant functional deterioration with less chance of having a paid job and a significant change in quality of life. The aim of the review is to report methods to assess fatigue and its prevalence in KTR patients, compared to HD subjects and define the effects of fatigue on health status and daily life. There is no evidence of studies on the treatment of this symptom in KTR. Efforts to identify and treat fatigue should be a priority to improve the quality of life of KTR.Rust fungi cause epidemics that threaten the production of important plant species, such as wheat and soy. Melampsora larici-populina (Mlp) causes the poplar rust and encodes at least 1184 candidate effectors (CEs) whose functions are poorly known. In this study, we sequenced the transcriptome and used mass spectrometry to analyze the metabolome of Arabidopsis plants constitutively expressing 14 Mlp CEs and of a control line to discover alterations leading to plant susceptibility. We found 2299 deregulated genes across the experiment. Genes involved in pattern-triggered immunity, such as FRK1, PR1, RBOHD, and WRKY33, as well as AUX/IAA genes were down-regulated. We further observed that 680 metabolites were deregulated in at least one CE-expressing transgenic line, with "highly unsaturated and phenolic compounds" and "peptides" enriched among down- and up-regulated metabolites. Interestingly, transgenic lines expressing unrelated CEs had correlated patterns of gene and metabolite deregulation, while expression of CEs belonging to the same family deregulated different genes and metabolites. Thus, our results uncouple effector sequence similarity and function. This supports that effector functional investigation in the context of their virulence activity and effect on plant susceptibility requires the investigation of the individual effector and precludes generalization based on sequence similarity.KfrC proteins are encoded by the conjugative broad-host-range plasmids that also encode alpha-helical filament-forming KfrA proteins as exemplified by the RA3 plasmid from the IncU incompatibility group. The RA3 variants impaired in kfrA, kfrC, or both affected the host's growth and demonstrated the altered stability in a species-specific manner. In a search for partners of the alpha-helical KfrC protein, the host's membrane proteins and four RA3-encoded proteins were found, including the filamentous KfrA protein, segrosome protein KorB, and the T4SS proteins, the coupling protein VirD4 and ATPase VirB4. The C-terminal, 112-residue dimerization domain of KfrC was involved in the interactions with KorB, the master player of the active partition, and VirD4, a key component of the conjugative transfer process. In Pseudomonas putida, but not in Escherichia coli, the lack of KfrC decreased the stability but improved the transfer ability. We showed that KfrC and KfrA were involved in the plasmid maintenance and conjugative transfer and that KfrC may play a species-dependent role of a switch between vertical and horizontal modes of RA3 spreading.Eco-friendly and sustainable materials that are cost-effective, while having a reduced carbon footprint and energy consumption, are in great demand by the construction industry worldwide. Accordingly, alkali-activated materials (AAM) composed primarily of industrial byproducts have emerged as more desirable alternatives to ordinary Portland cement (OPC)-based concrete. Hence, this study investigates the cradle-to-gate life-cycle assessment (LCA) of ternary blended alkali-activated mortars made with industrial byproducts. Moreover, the embodied energy (EE), which represents an important parameter in cradle-to-gate life-cycle analysis, was investigated for 42 AAM mixtures. The boundary of the cradle-to-gate system was extended to include the mechanical and durability properties of AAMs on the basis of performance criteria. Using the experimental test database thus developed, an optimized artificial neural network (ANN) combined with the cuckoo optimization algorithm (COA) was developed to estimate the CO2 emissions and EE of AAMs. Considering the lack of systematic research on the cradle-to-gate LCA of AAMs in the literature, the results of this research provide new insights into the assessment of the environmental impact of AAM made with industrial byproducts. The final weight and bias values of the AAN model can be used to design AAM mixtures with targeted mechanical properties and CO2 emission considering desired amounts of industrial byproduct utilization in the mixture.
