bt DSCE01, Enterobacter cloacae nov. bt DSCE02, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa nov. bt DSCE-CD03, respectively. This novel consortium can be scaled up for enhanced degradation of plastic polymers and probably design cost-effective bio-digester for industrial applications using CB3 as potential inoculum. The resident participatory ecosystem service assessment is a method for determining local situations through the ecological knowledge of residents who most closely experience changes in local ecosystems. This is an opportunity for residents to synthesize their environmental knowledge. It provides valuable research material for researchers, can be utilized as a pathway for civil servants to reflect residents' opinions on policy, and can help environmental organizations instill environmental awareness and develop environmental public opinions in residents. Despite the participation of various stakeholders in resident participatory ecosystem service assessment, discussions concerning their roles and the nature of cooperation have largely not borne fruit. This study ascertained opinions on the development of the resident participatory ecosystem service assessment from local residents, local universities and research institutes, and relevant civil servants who participated as stakeholders in environmental organizarvice assessment.Blockade of the PD-1/PD-L1 immunologic checkpoint using monoclonal antibodies has provided breakthrough therapies against cancer in the recent years. Nevertheless, intrinsic disadvantages of therapeutic antibodies may limit their applications. Metabolism inhibitor Thus, blocking of the PD-1/PD-L1 interaction by small molecules may be a promising alternative for cancer immunotherapy. We used a docking-based virtual screening strategy to rapidly identify new small molecular inhibitors targeting PD-L1. We demonstrated that a small molecule compound (N-[2-(aminocarbonyl)phenyl][1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carboxamide [APBC]) could effectively interrupt the PD-1/PD-L1 interaction by directly binding to PD-L1, presenting the KD and IC50 values at low-micromolar level. Molecular docking study revealed that APBC may have function through a PD-L1 dimer-locking mechanism, occluding the PD-1 interaction surface of PD-L1. We further confirmed the ligand blocking activity and T cell-reinvigoration potency of APBC using cell-based assays. APBC could dose-dependently elevate cytokine secretions of the primary T-lymphocytes that are cocultured with cancer cells. Importantly, APBC displayed superior antitumor efficacy in hPD-L1 knock-in B16F10-bearing mouse model without the induction of observable liver toxicity. Analyses on the APBC-treated mice further revealed drastically elevated levels of infiltrating CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, and inflammatory cytokines production in tumor microenvironment. The APBC compound could serve as a privileged scaffold in the design of improved PD pathway modulators, thus providing us promising drug candidates for tumor immunotherapy.Following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010, large amounts of biodegraded oil (petrocarbon) sank to the seafloor. Our objectives were to 1) determine post-spill isotopic values as the sediments approached a new baseline and 2) track the recovery of affected sediments. Sediment organic carbon δ13C and Δ14C reached a post-spill baseline averaging -21.2 ± 0.9‰ (n = 129) and -220 ± 66‰ (n = 95). Spatial variations in seafloor organic carbon baseline isotopic values, 13C and 14C, were influenced by river discharge and hydrocarbon seepage, respectively. Inverse Distance Weighting of surface sediment Δ14C values away from seep sites showed a 50% decrease in the total mass of petrocarbon, from 2010 to 2014. We estimated a rate of loss of -2 × 109 g of petrocarbon-C/year, 2-11% of the degradation rates in surface slicks. Despite the observed recovery in sediments, lingering residual material in the surface sediments was evident seven years following the blowout. This study investigated 12 trace elements in paired green turtle (Chelonia mydas) eggshell composites and coral sand samples to examine within-habitat heavy metal pollution from 40 nesting sites in the Xisha Islands. The concentrations of the elements (μg·g-1) found in the eggshells ranged as follows Sr (41.3) > Zn (20.3) > Cu (12.8) > Fe (4.92) > Al (4.37) > Se (2.44) > Mn (0.91) > Cr (0.81) > Ba (0.44) > Pb (0.14) > As (0.08) > Cd (0.02). Significant correlations were observed between the levels of Cd and Se and the levels of Zn, Cu, and Pb in eggshells. The concentrations of Mn, Zn, Se, As, Cd, and Pb in C. mydas eggshells were significantly correlated with those in coral sand sediments. Cu concentrations in the eggshells exceeded the toxic reference value for bird eggs and Se concentrations were between the worst- and best-case scenario hazard quotients. In an effort to assess the potential contamination and determine the environmental risks associated with heavy metals, 51 surface sediment samples (0-4 cm) were collected in the Zhoushan Islands coastal sea of the East China Sea (ECS). The heavy metal concentrations, grain size and total organic carbon (TOC) contents of these surface sediments were comprehensively analyzed. The results showed that the order of the average concentrations of heavy metals is Zn > Cr > Cu > Pb > As > Cd > Hg. Zn, Cr, Cd and Hg exhibit similar distribution and which derived from a common source, however, Cu, Pb and As present different distribution. The metal enrichment factor (EF) and geoaccumulation index (Igeo) values both suggest that Cu and Cd likely pose environmental risks. The results of this study could provide scientific data to authorities in charge of sustainable marine management. The occurrence and spatial distribution of bisphenol A (BPA) and analogues bisphenol B (BPB), bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS) were investigated in microplastic on 11 beaches in Hong Kong. At 10 sites, BPA was the only detected chemical with concentrations ranged from 82.4-989 ng g-1 microplastic. BPA, BPB and BPS co-occurred at only one site, where it is located close proximity to the outfall of a sewage treatment plant. There was no significant spatial difference of BPA concentrations in microplastic when all the sites were considered, indicating that some remote and presumably cleaner beaches have been contaminated. PE, PP and PS (represented >90% of total polymers) were the most dominated polymers, but there was no correlation between polymer types and BPA concentrations. No evidence was found that the BPA and its analogues accumulate on microplastic since the concentrations were comparable to those found in the sediment.
