SMFCs have been attracting increasing amounts of interest in environmental remediation, since they are capable of providing a clean and inexhaustible source of electron donors or acceptors and can be easily controlled by adjusting the electrochemical parameters. The microorganisms inhabiting sediments and the overlying water play a pivotal role in SMFCs. Since the SMFC is applied in an open environment rather than in an enclosed chamber, the effects of the environment on the microbes should be intense and the microbial community succession should be extremely complex. Thus, this review aims to provide an overview of the microorganisms in SMFCs, which few previous review papers have reported. In this study, the anodic and cathodic niches for the microorganisms in SMFCs are summarized, how the microbial population and community interact with the SMFC environment is discussed, a new microbial succession strategy called the electrode stimulation succession is proposed, and recent developments in the environmental functions of SMFCs are discussed from the perspective of microorganisms. Future studies are needed to investigate the electrode stimulation succession, the environmental function and the electron transfer mechanism in order to boost the application of SMFCs for power generation and environmental remediation.

Efficacy of the ligation of intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) procedure for posterior fistula-in-ano remains under debate. However, there is scarcity of quality evidence analysing this issue. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate outcomes of LIFT surgery in patients with posterior anal fistula.

Systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate efficacy of LIFT procedure for posterior anal fistula. MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and Google Scholar data sources were searched for key-words (MeSH terms) "LIFT" OR "Ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract" AND "posterior anal fistula" OR "posterior fistula-in-ano". Original, observational and experimental, non-language restriction studies published from January 2000 to March 2020 and reporting outcomes on LIFT procedure for posterior anal fistula were reviewed. Quality and potential biases were assessed using Newcastle-Ottawa scale, following AHRQ recommendations. Additional sensitivity analysis and publication re no clear data in the literature for not performing the LIFT procedure in posteriorly located fistulas.Although orofacial cancer leads to substantial functional, esthetic, and psychosocial deficits for patients, reconstructive plastic surgeries may not be indicated for large facial defects. The high costs of prosthetic oral maxillofacial rehabilitation may hamper such treatment, which commonly involves virtual planning, craniofacial implants, and computer-aided design and computer-aided manufactured prostheses. This report shows the treatment of 2 patients with large facial defects from surgical resection of cancerous tissue who were rehabilitated with implant-supported bar-clip overdentures and facial prostheses fabricated by using low-cost straightforward methods.

The purpose of this invitro study was to compare the microstructures and mechanical properties of 3 soft metal milling cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr)alloys (Ceramill Sintron, Soft Metal, and Sintermetall).

Disk-shaped specimens (for surface characterization and hardness test) and dumbbell-shaped specimens (for tensile test as per International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 22674) were prepared by following each soft metal milling manufacturer's instructions. The crystal structures and microstructures of the 3 alloys were evaluated with optical microscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy with electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). The mechanical properties were investigated with a tensile test and Vickers hardness test (n=6). The results of the mechanical (tensile aerences in Vickers hardness values were detected among the 3 alloys (P=.263).

Evidence is sparse regarding the long-term outcomes of restorative treatment of patients with extensive tooth wear.

The purpose of this long-term prospective randomized clinical trial was to evaluate the performance and success rate of pressed lithium disilicate (LD) and translucent zirconia (TZ) crowns in participants with extensive tooth wear.

A total of 62 participants with extensive tooth wear (17 women, 45 men; mean age 44.8 years; range 25-63 years) received a total of 713 crowns, LD=362 and TZ=351. Both types of crowns had chamfer preparations and were adhesively luted with dual-polymerizing composite resin cement (PANAVIA F 2.0; Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc). The restorations were clinically reevaluated on average 14, 31, 39, 54, and 65 months after insertion of the crowns according to the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria.

After an observation period of up to 6 years, the survival rate for both types of crowns was 99.7%, with 1 lost LD crown after 1 year as a result of loss of retention and 1 lost TZ crown after 3 years because of tooth fracture at the cemento-enamel junction.
