Results Daily HSD administration signifificantly improved depression-like behaviors in the FST (P0.05), increased the number of lines crossed in the central zone of the OFT (P0.01), and reduced freezing behavior both in contextual and cued fear conditioning. HSD treatment also attenuated the reduction in SPS-induced 5-HT concentrations in the hippocampus and amygdala. This increase in 5-HT concentrations during HSD treatment was partially attributed to a decrease in the 5-HIAA/5-HT ratio in the hippocampus of rats with PTSD. Furthermore, HSD treatment inhibited activity of MAO-A and decreases of tryptophan hydroxylase-1 expression in the hippocampus. Conclusion HSD was shown to exert antidepressant effects in rats exposed to SPS, suggesting that this natural flflavonoid may be an effective medicine for PTSD.Objective To describe and analyze the status quo of cardiovascular clinical practice guidelines or expert consensuses including both Chinese medicine (CM) and integrative medicine, through systematic literatures searching and quality assessment. Methods Data bases including Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, China Science and Technology Journal Database were searched for published CM or integrative cardiovascular clinical practice guidelines or expert consensuses. The website www. medlive.cn was also retrieved as supplementary. The clinical practice evaluation tool AGREE II was used to assess the quality of included guidelines or consensuses. Results A total of 31 relevant clinical practice guidelines or expert consensuses were included, covering diagnosis, treatment, Chinese patent and patient fields. Common cardiovascular diseases like coronary heart diseases, heart failure and arrhythmia were also involved. Through analysis it was found that both the quantity and quality of included guidelines have been improved year by year. A total of 4 evidence-based clinical practice guideline has been found, one of which was a guideline project plan. Except that, the remaining 27 reports were all consensus-based guidelines. The scores of each field, from highest to lowest, were clarity of presentation (58%), scope and purpose (54%), stakeholder involvement (28%), rigor of development (21%), applicability (13%) and editorial independence (8%). Conclusions Although clinical practice guidelines in cardiovascular domain of Chinese have gained increasing concern, with both quantity and quality improved, there is still huge gap in methodology and reporting standards between CM guidelines and international ones. On the one hand, it is essential to improve and standardize the methodology of developing CM guidelines. On the other hands, the evaluation system of evidence and recommendation with CM characters should be developed urgently.Purpose To investigate the long-term effect of HIV infection on the ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer and retinal capillary network. Methods This prospective, cross-sectional case-control study included 45 HIV-infected patients and 45 healthy individuals. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was used for the assessment of macular, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thicknesses, ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer, vessel density, perfusion density, and foveal avascular zone. Results The mean disease duration was 7.3 ± 1.9 years (range, 5-12 years) in the HIV group. The mean CD4 count (nadir) for all the patients was 147.09 ± 122 cells/mm3 and the mean RNA was 173.6 ± 913.8 copies/ml. No statistically significant difference was determined between the groups in respect of the average and foveal MT (p = 0.05). A significant difference was found between the two groups in respect of the mean VD and PD parameters (p less then 0.05). Peripapillary PD was significantly decreased in the HIV group. There was a significant difference between the average and superior and inferior half-region of GC-IPL values. Using Pearson's correlation analysis, no significant correlation was determined between the duration of HIV infection and mean GC-IPL, MT and VD, and PD values (r - 0.223, p 0.141; r - 0.223, p 0.141; r - 0.169, p 0.268; r - 0.105, p 0.491; r - 0.095, p 0.535 respectively). Conclusions The results of this study provide evidence of microvascular and neuroretinal loss in individuals with well-suppressed HIV infection, compared with healthy control subjects. OCTA is an important test for the screening of retinal microvascular changes over time in HIV-infected cases.Purpose To evaluate the retinal features of elderly patients affected by pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE). Eflornithine Materials and methods This is a retrospective case series of 62 eyes of 31 elderly PXE patients (age > 50 years). Clinical data, ultra-widefield fundus imaging (color, red-free (RF), infra-red imaging (IR), fundus autofluorescence (FAF)), and OCT examinations were collected. Diagnosis was confirmed by genetic testing or skin biopsy. Results Thirty-one patients (10 males and 21 females (mean age 61.3 years, range 50-74 years)) were included in our study. Visual acuity ranged from 20/20 Snellen equivalent to 20/200. The mean follow-up was 66.4 ± 20.7 months (range 10-88). Pattern dystrophy-like changes (PD) (52 eyes of 26 patients, 83.8%) and atrophy resembling the "diffuse trickling" pattern described in geographic atrophy were present in the majority of patients. Twenty-three eyes of 12 patients (67.6%) had peripapillary atrophy, 9 eyes of 5 patients (26.4%) macular atrophy, 6 eyes of 3 patients (17.6%) displayed posterior pole atrophy and in 6 eyes of 3 patients (17.6%), atrophy could be detected beyond the vascular arcades (mid-peripheral atrophy). End-stage atrophy covered the entire area indicated as "coquille d'oeuf" (eggshell). Choroidal neovascularization occurred in 49 eyes of 26 patients (94.2%) with PD and in 6 eyes of 3 patients (60%) without PD. Genetic examinations were available for 29 patients (29/31, 93.5%). Conclusions The elderly PXE patients were characterized by pattern dystrophy-like changes with more or less extensive atrophy, progressive over time, which in some cases affected the whole area of the coquille d'oeuf during the course of the disease.
